А это проект вокалиста подольской фьюнерал-дум метал команд Откровения Дождя. Здесь тоже дум, но не фьюнерал. Конечно, музыка напоминает немного Откровения, но она более мягкая, намного более клавишно-ориентированная, более энергичная. Мелодик дум-дэт, пожалуй. И больше мне этот проект напомнил дебютник москвичей Non Immemor Mei 2005-го года своими красивыми фортепианными партиями, и особенно замкнутым «шамкающим» гроулом, а быстрыми тяжёлыми партиями – последний альбом киевского Raventale. Всё вместе, собрав в себе очень разные, в общем, вещи, On the Edge of the NetherRealm звучат довольно оригинально, западные аналоги уж точно не припоминаются. Красиво, атмосферно, очень мелодично, мощный чистый звук. Вокал довольно оригинален, не знаю, как будет петь Владимир на третьем альбоме Откровений, где раньше был традиционный глубокий гроул, но здесь он спел довольно странно, правда, привыкаешь к этому легко и быстро. Тут скорей важна музыка, чем голос, и музыка здесь отличная!

This is the debut solo full-length album from Vladimir Andreev, the guitarist of Otkroveniya Dozhdya (Revelations of Rain), although he has hired one Sethaye to take care of the vocal duties on the album. The music is a combination of Death/Doom Metal and dark semi-Gothic Metal with a lot of solos and melodic work. The music is mostly mid-paced to slow, guitar driven, although there are quite a few passages that are keyboard driven. A lot of heavy riffing, but even more melodic riffing and, as I previously mentioned a lot of solos work. The music is at times quite catchy but still dark and gloomy. I must say that Vladimir Andreev really knows how to arrange this type of music, there are a lot of small twists and turns in the music that helps accentuate the already melancholic feeling of this album. This is a really well crafted piece of darkness. I think all that enjoys spending autumn nights listening to dark and melancholic Death/Doom Metal will like this album.

Думовая группа из Подмосковного Подольска, наверное никогда не будет давать концертов. Хотя бы потому что в состав её входят всего два человека. И это очень печально, потому как материал представленный на дебютном альбоме команды достоин очень широкого распространения.
Несмотря на некоторую «майдаингбрайдовость» материала группа совершенно не лишена оригинальности. Множество отличных мелодий, неожиданных ритмических решений и, самое главное великолепные, «взрослые» аранжировки, заставляют на время погрузиться в царство печали.
Альбом великолепно сбалансирован, плавно перетекающие треки не дают возможности выделить какую-либо композицию особенным образом. Реально тру думовый монолит, без фюнеральности, но где то совсем рядом, если вы понимаете о чем я. Однозначно один из лучших отечественных андеграунд релизов начинающегося года.Релиз предоставлен Solitude Productions и

Wieder mal neues Material von unseren Doom-Metal-Fanatikern BadMoodMan Music aus Russland! Das Unterlabel von Solitude Productions hat sich mittlerweile zu Recht einen ausgezeichneten Ruf in der Szene erarbeitet. Dieses Mal werden wir mit den 2005 gegründeten ON THE EDGE OF THE NETHERREALM überrascht, deren Debütalbum “Different Realms” dieser Tage erscheint. Hierbei handelt es sich um das Seitenprojekt des REVELATIONS OF RAIN (Otkroveniya Dozhdya) Gitarristen Vladimir Andreev.
Selbstredend hat sich auch dieses Projekt dem Doom Metal gewidmet, und zwar einer äußerst dunklen Variante. ON THE EDGE OF THE NETHERREALM kombinieren Death Doom mit Gothic Metal. Die Musik ist dabei sehr melodisch, mit sehr vielen bittersüßen Gitarrenharmonien und feinen Soli, sowie selbstredend zähen, schweren Lava-Riffs und einigen akzentuierenden, symphonischen Keyboardklängen. Das sehr tiefe Geröchel stellt einen ziemlich üblen Kontrast zu den Melodien dar, ehrlich gesagt ist mir das manchmal schon zu arg… und vor allem zu eintönig. Wie schön wäre es doch, diese Musik mit “normalen” Growls zu versehen, andererseits soll ja auch Doom Metal weh tun, und die triste, trostlose Atmosphäre wird dadurch nur noch verstärkt. Die Geschwindigkeit pendelt von schleppend langsam bis hin in mittlere Temporegionen. Das Schlagzeug klingt nach Drumcomputer, geht aber in Ordnung. Eine gewisse Eingängigkeit ist definitiv vorhanden, und auch für Abwechslungsreichtum ist gesorgt, abgesehen von der schon erwähnten Gesangsdarbietung. Ganz klar sticht hier die hervorragende, komplexe Gitarrenarbeit hervor.
“Different Realms” ist ein gutes Album voll melancholischen, wirklich gut arrangiertem Death Doom Metal, welcher hier und da mal an NOVEMBRE und SATURNUS erinnert, abgesehen vom Gesang, welcher mir in dieser Kombination einfach nicht so sehr schmecken will.

My second helping of Russian doom this month, following on from the majestic Ea, comes in the form of the snappily named On The Edge Of The NetherRealm. Web research reveals this to be the debut full-length solo offering from guitarist Vladimir Andreev of Otkroveniya Dozhdya – or Revelations Of Rain if you prefer – but my ignorance of that band means I can’t offer fans any helpful comparisons.
The weighty riffs on display here are augmented by frequent use of mournful piano parts and some ultra deep growls that sit buried deep down in the mix. The piano notes in particular add more than a tinge of gothic atmosphere to the whole affair and that is strengthened further by some of the guitar melodies. These elements – despite those submerged vocal burblings – make Different Realms a much easier listen than the Ea album and perversely a much less impressive one as well.
Many will, quite reasonably, view this as doom metal with added gothic and dark metal flavours but to me it comes across as doom diluted to the point where it barely deserves the name. I certainly wouldn’t pour scorn on such a splendidly produced and professionally performed and arranged piece of work so I’ll settle for saying it just isn’t for me. Slow to mid-paced riffs with gothic shades, growled vocals, melancholy melodies, frequent double bass drum work and admittedly a certain sense of grandeur…if that sounds good to you then check them out at the web address below. For my tastes Different Realms, while occasionally excellent, is too often just dreary.

The band with such long title is coming from Russia, and this is project of musician from the band OTKROVENIYA DOZHDYA, I think you heard that band. “Different Realms” is the debut work of this band, and again I should say that debut is goodJ. Do you know that ex-USSR area already have many bands into doom metal which could be on the one level of respecting with the major or old bands? Yeah, this is true, and such albums like this just prove that fact. All I can say regarding this album – very good stuff, obscure doom/death metal made in great dark way, and even some songs were sung in Russian (in this case our language looks good with the music, so do not be afraid this album because language). The whole album is such depressive mass, with some tempo-changes and musical thresholds, and all made on good level and with true passion. Just look, melodic and vortex tunes will be changed by such pressing and “brutal” tunes, and then again same light stuff… Pretty good ideas and reach musical structure. I like such kind of doom metal, where both massive and light sides mixed, as this sounds interesting and even freezing at the same time. If you like doom metal – you will like this album (here is drum-machine except of real drums, but what we can do…). Good doom metal which is not for one time listening. Atmospheric, filled with melancholic melodies, deep and pressing stuff.

Derrière ce patronyme à rallonge se cache en réalité Vladimir Andreev, guitariste du combo Doom/death russe Revelations of rain (« Otkroveniya Dozhdya » dans la langue de Vladimir Poutine), dont les plus férus lecteurs de notre webzine auront sans doute déjà croisé une chronique élogieuse. L’ami Vladimir (Andreev hein, pas Poutine) s’est donc payé une petite virée solo, délaissant les brumes mortifères de Revelations of rain, pour sortir ce « Different realms »… pas si différent.
Apparemment passionné par l’expression musicale la plus sombre, Vladimir Andreev et son acolyte Sethaye au chant n’a pas voulu trop s’éloigner des contrées désolées de Revelations of rain. On the edge of the netherrealm est un autre projet doom/death à très forte connotation mélodique et mélancolique, comme seule la scène russe sait nous en procurer. Cette scène s’agrandit donc avec ce nouveau rejeton, qui n’a pas à rougir de ses ainés.
Les 47 minutes de cet album présentent une musique très solide, aux fondations connues: riffs profonds, rythmique variée entre mid-tempo et battement doom, ne rechignant pas à accélérer par moment, arrangements travaillés mais discret où le piano et les claviers subliment le travail sans le saper par trop de grandiloquence, vocaux ultra gras en sous mixage. Presque une marque de fabrique de la scène russe! Les huit compositions de « Different realms » sont très recherchées et suffisamment complexes pour garder l’attention, mais elles auraient put facilement être interchangeables avec celles d’un autre groupe s’il n’y avait pas cette patte mélodique hors norme qui fait sortir ce disque du lot. S’inspirant de la mouvance mélodique russe à l’instar de Revelations of rain, Letargy dream ou The Morningside, Vladimir prouve à chaque instant son immense talent de soliste et de compositeur, extrayant de ses cordes des leads magnifiques, emplit de tristesse et de beauté. Son jeu fluide nous berce de douces mélopées pour mieux nous faire voyager dans sa musique. L’influence des italiens de Novembre n’y est sans doute pas étrangère, certaines mélodies auraient très bien pu se retrouver sur un album des transalpins.
« Different realms » présente des atours familiers, mais pourrait bien faire chavirer les fans de doom/death par ces qualités mélodiques et son ambiance d’abandon. Décidément cette scène russe est très surprenante et nous offre régulièrement de nouveau talents. Merci solitude prod!

Egyszer csak a Revelations of Rain, vagy ahogy az anyaföldön mondják, Otkroveniya Dozhdya zenekar gitárosa úgy érezte, anyabandája nem ad elegendő teret, hogy a benne felgyülemlett melankóliát kiadhassa magából, így létrehozott egy szólóprojektet On The Edge Of The Netherrealm néven. Íme, itt az első lemez.
A borítófotó mintha a norvégiai Preikestolenen készült volna, legalábbis kísérteties a hasonlóság. Két érdekes dolog derül ki a bookletből, az egyik, hogy Vladimir Andreev, aki mellesleg az összes hangszerért felelős, egy 8 húros gitáron játszhatta fel az anyagot, legalábbis ezt sugallja a belső fotó. Az ének csatornákat egy bizonyos Sethaye nevű valaki töltötte fel tartalommal. Itt jön képbe a másik érdekesség, hogy az angol címek ellenére pár nóta bizony szép orosz nyelven van előadva.
A zene nehezen körülírható, mert ami címkét aggathatnék rá, kicsit félrevezető lehet, de azért megpróbálom. Rengeteg hatás keveredik benne, alapvetően egy doomos, lassú hömpölygő muzsika. A gitárok mellett fő szerepet kap a zongora. Az ének szinte hangszerként funkcionál, nincs központi szerepe. Nem tiszta hangról van szó, inkább valami dörmögés, néha csak szövegmondás. Igazából kell pár hallgatás, mire az ember el tudja dönteni, hogy egyáltalán most éppen angolul, vagy oroszul hallja a szövegeket. Eleinte úgy gondoltam, hogy egy tiszta női énekhang feldobná a lemezt. Ezt az állításomat most is fenntartom, miután jobban elmerültem benne, de ugyanakkor azt mondom, hogy jobb ez így. Igaz kicsit monotonabb, és a magasabb tartományt csak a zongora képviseli, de így az egésznek egy olyan hihetetlen hangulata van, amit az előbb említett énekhang csak lerombolna.
A dobok szintén érdekes színt adnak a produkcióhoz. Nem egy tipikus doom játék, inkább a Theathre of Tragedy jut róla eszébe az embernek, valószínűleg a zongorakíséret és az énekhang is hozzájárul ehhez. De hiába indulnak be néha a dobok, a tempó nem gyorsul. Egyedül a Rebirth című nótában kapunk szinte már black metalos balalajkázást a felvezetőben, de aztán utána erősen visszavesznek.
A gitárok néha csak szinte aláfestésként vannak jelen, kellemes harmóniákat hoznak a dörmögés alá, de sikerül néha elég súlyos riffeket tolniuk, mint például a Boundless Life-ban is. A szólók hangulata nekem a Tiamat Wildhoney albumát idézi.A zene lassan hömpölyög, ahogy a természet a tél után ébredezik. Szinte érzed a virágos rét illatát, a rovarsereg döngicsélését, az olvadó hó csobogását, ahogy kis csermelyekben csordogál le a hegyoldalról.
De hiába ezek a napfényes természet közeli képek, a zene maga alá gyűr, észre sem veszed és bekebelez. A napfény örömtelen lesz, az éjszaka végeláthatatlan. Nem egyértelműen szomorúság árad belőle, inkább csak az élet rendjének elfogadása. Nagyon hangulatzene, az a fajta, amit nem mindig esik jól hallgatni, de van, mikor éppen erre van szükséged.
De vigyázz, a szépsége leránt a mélybe! Én szóltam.

On The Edge Of The Netherrealm is een project van Vladimir Andreev of Otkroveniya Dozhdya, een band die we ook onder de naam Revelations of Rain kennen. Hier laat Vladimir horen dat hij een veelzijdig muzikant is die leuke deuntjes kan schrijven.
Het zijn progressief aandoende doom/death songs die hier en daar wat raakvlakken vertoont met het Italiaanse Novembre. Ook hoor je wel wat verwijzingen naar een act als Nevermore hoewel de muzikale omlijsting uiteraard geheel anders is. Wat ik wel een beetje jammer vind is dat de drums overduidelijk uit de computer komen en dat de zang van Sethaye erg vlak is ondanks dat de grunt wel lekker diep klinkt. Er valt dus nog duidelijk het nodige te verbeteren aan On The Edge Of The Netherrealm. Als debuut is het in ieder geval wel een plaat die de aandacht trekt want er is duidelijk potentie aanwezig.

Gli On The Edge Of The NetherRealm sono il solo project di Vladimir Andreev cantante/chitarrista degli Revelations Of Rain band doom/death russa, l’artista da vita all’opera prima “Different Realms” sotto l’egida ala della BadMoodMan Music, consolidata promotrice di realtà nazionali e non.
L’ambito sonoro in cui la sua creatura si va a inserire è comunque legato a sonorità espanse e quindi Doom ma a far coppia con il genere madre è stavolta la vena gotica e dolciastra che ne caratterizza le movenze, anche se la pachidermicità possente delle ritmiche death è più volte presente.
Tutto ciò che riguarda la parte strettamente strumentale è curata dallo stesso Vladimir che per le linee vocali si è affidato invece alla voce di Sethaye.
La proposta è classica dello stile, riffoni ampi e scuri conditi da ondate di melodia che viene trasmessa da assoli melancolici e passaggi di piano brevi ma intensi, pur mantenendosi orecchiabile, spesso e volentieri dotata di una fruibilità di facile assimilazione, i toni cupi e grevi rimangono una costante all’interno di un platter come “Different Realms” per certi versi accostabile al buon lavoro creato dai Raventale con “Mortal Aspirations”.
Non vi è bisogno di un track by track per farvi capire che l’album in questione sia piacevole e dedicato agli appassionati del filone, se poi sulla vostra strada aveste già incontrato la label che li produce dovreste sapere che difficilmente fanno un buco nell’acqua.
Tirando le somme gli On The Edge Of The NetherRealm non si discostano da quanto è stato già suonato o impostato negli ultimi anni nello stile melodico ma si fa piacevolmete apprezzare per la naturalezza con cui espone e si approccia al sound.
Inserite “Different Realms” nel vostro lettore e lasciatelo girare più volte prima di farvi un’impressione che si possa definire definitiva dedicandogli il tempo che merita.

“Different Realms” – это чувственный, очень мелодичный, и в то же время достаточно жесткий альбом гитариста подольской группы ОТКРОВЕНИЯ ДОЖДЯ Владимира Андреева, записанный в рамках его собственного проекта ON THE EDGE OF THE NETHERREALM. То что заправляет гитарист видно, а вернее слышно, сразу – альбом просто переполнен гитарными соло, и вообще все мелодические линии ведутся исключительно гитарой, а прочим инструментам, да и вокалу, отведены вспомогательные роли. Последнее скорее минус, чем плюс – раз уж часть текстов еще и на русском языке, то было бы не прочь их услышать. Но булькающий гроулинг второго участника проекта, Sethaye, запрятанный в гитарный шквал, исключает всякую возможность этого. Так что желающим разобраться с лирикой придется руководствоваться 8-страничным буклетом, благо, он ее содержит в полной мере. Красивый материал, выдержанный в духе NOVEMBRE и SATURNUS, монолитен, но не скучен – Владимир в своей музыке удачно маневрирует между жестким и сочным doom/death и лиричным и мелодичным dark metal. Но особенно хотелось бы выделить эффектную Get The Fuck Out From Others, начинающуюся с безжалостного размеренного вступления в prog/death metal ключе и затем перетекающая в более привычное dark/doom русло.

Ciekawe, że wciąż nagrywa się i wydaje płyty w stylu prezentowanym na “Different Realms”. Nie byłoby to może aż tak zaskakujące, gdyby był to kolejny album kapeli mocno przywiązanej do stylistyki obranej przed laty (a takich przecież nie brakuje). W tym przypadku jednak mowa o debiutantach.
Na pewno nie jest to słabe granie, ale dziś zdecydowanie archaiczne. On the Edge of the Netherrealm prezentuje bowiem klasyczny gotycki doom z growlowanym wokalem, w stylu doskonale znanym choćby z dokonań Saturnus czy późnego Morgion. Nie da się ukryć, że podobne dźwięki czasy swej świetności, przypadające mniej więcej na przełomie wieków, mają już dawno za sobą. Tymczasem rosyjski duet, zupełnie na to nie zważając, zmontował całkiem zgrabny album, który jednak świata nie zwojuje, ani nie podbije serc młodzieży. Nie ukrywam, że lubię sobie czasem zarzucić coś klasycznego w podobnym stylu, ale czy potrzebne są dziś nowe albumy z taką nutą? Chyba nie, choć z drugiej strony póki znajdują się słuchacze, można uznać, że potrzebny jest każdy rodzaj muzy.
W zasadzie sama nazwa szuflady wyjaśnia już, czego można spodziewać się po “Different Realms”. Nie czai się tu żaden nowy pomysł, nie ma mowy o jakimkolwiek poszerzeniu czy urozmaiceniu formuły. Klasyczny schemat, ograny na dziesiątkach innych płyt. Przesycone melodią ponure, klimatyczne granie, utrzymane w wolnych tempach. Obowiązkowy nastrój melancholii i smutku. Ciężko, ale nie nazbyt ciężko, o co muzycy zadbali, wprowadzając sporo przestrzennych, gitarowych, plumkających partii. Obowiązkowe, wszechobecne klawisze w tle, a czasem i na pierwszym planie, także w postaci dźwięków fortepianu. Do tego rzecz jasna growling. Wszystko bezpiecznie i nieco asekurancko upchnięte w dobrze znane ramy gatunku. Czasem szkoda, że niektóre niezłe pomysły, wyróżniające się na tle znajomych melodii, które mogłyby nieco urozmaicić materiał (jak choćby początek “Get the Fuck out from Others” czy kilka fragmentów w najdłuższym i najbardziej zróżnicowanym “Rebirth”) ucinane są niemal w zarodku, a kapela szybko powraca na utarte szlaki. Pewną ciekawostką może być fakt, że teksty (oraz tytuły) do części utworów zostały napisane po rosyjsku. Język ten, trzeba przyznać, sprawdza się w tej stylistyce całkiem nieźle.
Całość materiału odegrana została bardzo umiejętnie. Choć wszystkie partie instrumentów to działka jednego osobnika, trudno cokolwiek zarzucić warstwie instrumentalnej. Nie mam tylko pewności, czy użyto tu żywej perkusji, czy automatu, bowiem w booklecie nie znalazłem słowa na ten temat. Poziom trzymają także wokale, za które odpowiada druga część duetu. Nie mam wątpliwości, że Rosjanie wiedzą, o co chodzi w takim graniu. Zaoferowali produkt, który spełnia wszelkie standardy gotyckiego doom metalu. Ulokowany gdzieś pośrodku stawki, na pewno niewybijający się ponad przeciętność. “Different Realms” daleko do najlepszych płyt gatunku, choćby tych autorstwa wspomnianych wyżej kapel. Z drugiej strony, wstydu twórcom nie przynosi. Podsumowując, to kolejny album wyłącznie dla fanów tego typu grania i im polecam go sprawdzić. Reszcie – niekoniecznie.

This should be checked by everyone into dark, heavy music. I mean everyone. It is a perfect mixture of depressive meanwhile emotional Atmospheric Metal and mysterious, apocalyptic Doom / Death Metal. What I really liked in the stuff of this album is that many of the songs are carrying a special atmosphere based in one of my favorite instruments: the piano.
Do not expect weak stuff in here as the guitar are really heavy and the rhythm section is slowly hammering each single part of each single song. Yes there are some faster parts as well basically used as crescendos and there are some really beautiful acoustic parts to bring back the calm after the storm.
Dive deep into this album and explore each song. Discover the magnificent, esoteric guitar melodies. Let the vocals to take you in their own black trip: yes they are deep, dark and they have a strange touch of abyss in their sound.
The atmosphere of this record is the strongest feature. From even the first hearing the music will overtake to. It is the inspired songwriting of the band which is presented under a dark, apocalyptic, strange and beautiful atmosphere.

Inizio distrattamente l’ascolto dell’album di questo solo-project russo, così mentre le note scorrono in sordina continuo operoso le mie faccende; d’improvviso mi rendo conto che sono giunto già al terzo brano senza che nemmeno me ne accorgessi. Non è possibile -dico a me stesso: come dare un giudizio critico su un disco senza riporrvi attenzione? Riavvio il lettore, ma l’esito è identico e allora inizio a sospettare che non sia solamente la mia considerazione a mancare, ma piuttosto che questo Different Realm stenti proprio a decollare.
Il progetto On The Edge Of The Netherrealm nasce nel 2005 e porta la sola firma di Vladimir Andreev, giovane polistrumentista e unico autore di musiche e testi il quale, tramite un’abbastanza canonica mistura di melodic death/doom e parti molto atmosferiche, ci introduce nei reami da lui stesso creati, tra l’altro evidentemente descritti nel booklet. Unico aiuto -nelle parti canore- grazie al profondo (ed effettatissimo) growling di Sethaye.
Raccolgo dunque tutte le mie forze, richiamo in gruppo tutti i miei neuroni e riparto da zero; nonostante ciò le iniziali Day And Night e Solitude scivolano via anonime senza lasciare traccia del loro passaggio. Pallido tentativo di risollevare il livello d’attenzione è affidato alle pomposissime Get The Fuck Out From Others e Boundless Life, che si fanno notare per un uso molto riempitivo dei synth utili a colmare le lacune lasciate da un riffing non particolarmente fresco e coinvolgente. Finalmente qualcosa si muove con la quinta Rebirth, brano dinamico e decisamente più aggressivo dei precedenti che però si fa apprezzare nei suoi momenti più atmosferici, riuscendo a creare un ponte coi gli Shape Of Despair più eterei e sognanti.
Bellissimo il rallentamento che, intorno alla metà del brano, ci sprofonda in un‘atmosfera funeral doom realmente agghiacciante, scandita da una doppia cassa che dona maggiori dinamiche al brano e che, proprio nei rallentamenti, trova la sua massima efficacia. Inizio atmosferico per On The Verge, song caratterizzata da suoni di synth molto cari agli anni ’80 – forse un po’ fuori luogo in questo contesto – ma che ben presto lasciano spazio ad un brano molto pesante, anch’esso esaltato da ottimi down-tempos che donano un certo “peso” ad un lavoro che altrimenti rischierebbe di scivolare inesorabilmente nel calderone dell’ordinaria monotonia. Azzeccata anche la scelta di inserire parecchi interventi di chitarra arpeggiata ad intervallare i brani e spezzare le lunghe cavalcate di questo Different Realm; ma le composizioni stesse purtroppo ancora non godono di una struttura ben definita, così non è raro che un brano finisca improvvisamente, chiudendo d’un botto le atmosfere che lo avevano caratterizzato. Inoltre anche i vari inizi delle songs sono molto simili tra di loro, creando un’ulteriore confusione nell’ascoltatore che stenta a distinguerle con facilità.
Molto bello il riffing portante di Past che, pur spostando drasticamente il baricentro della song da territori melodic doom/death a sentieri cari al gothic metal più ammaliante, (se non addirittura in campo prog) mette in mostra le notevoli influenze che sostengono Vladimir Andreev il quale, come spesso accade, contagia gli On The Edge Of The Netherrealm dello stesso male che affligge tutte le one-man-band in giro per il mondo, ovvero la mono-direzionalità della proposta, fin troppo spesso monocorde e ripetitiva. Conclude senza nulla aggiungere a quanto sentito l’altrettanto bella Dream, riconoscibile per l’accelerazione che precede la conclusione – finalmente diversa – dell’album.
Terminato l’ascolto dei tre quarti d’ora abbondanti di questo Different Realm, rimango nel limbo di chi non è disposto a concedere immediatamente un secondo ascolto, ma neanche intende dimenticare il CD sullo scaffale.

Интересно, чем вызвано полное отсутствие в буклете дебютного альбома проекта ON THE EDGE OF THE NETHERREALM т.н. “credits”? Неужели стремлением избегнуть скороспелых сравнений с музыкой ОТКРОВЕНИЙ ДОЖДЯ, в создании которой Владимир Андреев принимал непосредственное участие? Если так, то ничего не вышло. Во-первых, интернет быстро раскрывает секрет Полишинеля; а во-вторых, первой моей реакцией на эту пластинку было: «Да это же ОТКРОВЕНИЯ ДОЖДЯ!». После чего, естественно, за подтверждением несложной догадки можно было обратиться и ко Всемирной Паутине. Нет, конечно, музыка собственного проекта Владимира отличается (и значительно) от той, что ему приходилось играть на последнем на сегодняшний день альбоме ОТКРОВЕНИЙ…, но какое-то глубинное, корневое сходство (риффов, мелодий, ритмического рисунка) остается очень сильным.
Впрочем, не стоит на этом зацикливаться. Ведь при всем при этом музыка “Different Realms” оказалась совсем неплоха, а порой даже и чуть больше, чем просто «неплоха». И, кстати, куда более разнообразна, чем у… Стоп! Хватит сравнений. Альбом у Владимира Андреева получился атмосферным, а в некоторых фрагментах даже медитативным (особенно в первых и последних двух песнях), зато в середине его плавное течение разбивается о пороги жестких, ломаных риффов в “Get the F. out from Others” и тревожные сбивки “Перерождения”. Традиционные для дум-метал темы одиночества, тоски, отрешения ON THE EDGE OF THE NETHERREALM решают, навешивая на каркас из довольно консервативных для стиля риффов атмосферные клавишные темы и очень низкий «ворчащий» гроул, словно вещающий из-за некоего барьера. Вокальная манера Sethaye вполне подошла бы к funeral-metal, и отголоски «похорон» нет-нет, а возникают на дорожках диска (“Бескрайняя жизнь” и, особенно “On the Verge” вполне могут соответствовать критериям и этого жанра). Так что, загонять себя в какие-то конкретные рамки подольчане явно не собирались, но при этом альбом их сохраняет четко выдержанную основную линию, оставаясь единым целым, совершая своеобразный круговорот на протяжении от первого до последнего трека. Наверное “Different Realms” нельзя назвать чем-то выдающимся, но это крепкая и уверенная работа, которая вполне может послужить отличным саундтреком для философских размышлений… Или просто для мягкого погружения в одиночество. А вот для компании (даже из двух человек) эта пластинка будет явно противопоказана.

Debut album per i russi (dalla regione moscovita, per la precisione) On the Edge of the NetherRealm, fautori di un doloroso ibrido Death/Doom Metal dagli eleganti rimandi gotici. “Different Realms”, questo il titolo dell’album si compone di otto tracce velate di profonda tristezza e di soffocanti impeti notturni. Otto tracce che mettono in primo piano, oltre agli stilemi classici del genere, uno sfarzoso gusto per sonorità pianistiche e neoclassiche, ed è proprio questo il punto di maggiore interesse dell’album tutto, ovvero quello di lasciarsi apprezzare per il proprio combinare pesantezza e decadenti modi fatti d’eleganza. Da ciò nascono delle buone tracce come “Solitude” e come la strumentale “Dream”.
Citati i punti di pregio, veniamo ora alle note dolenti, prima fra tutte una certa monotonia e ridondanza che avvolge l’album e che rende difficile completare una serie di ascolti. A questo si aggiunge una prestazione vocale poco ispirata, attraverso growl vocals troppo monocordi, che non danno alle strutture strumentali l’enfasi ed il pathos emozionale che la proposta meriterebbe.
Un lavoro, che non esclude punti di interesse ma che per ora tende a perdersi, troppo, nell’anonimato. Gli On the Edge of the NetherRealm, superano appena la soglia della sufficienza, ma in futuro dovranno ampliare e dotare di maggior trasporto i propri brani, pena la caduta nell’oblio.

On The Edge Of The Netherrealm – quite lengthy name for a metal band?! On The Edge Of The Netherrealm is a project of Vladimir Andreev (Otkroveniya Dozhdya). He’s a very skilled and versatile musician creating great metal tunes.
What we have here is their debut album entitled Different Realms. It contains eight songs much in a Doom/Prog/Death metal style. Their music is much a down-tempo and a bit monotonous and repetitive because this band unlike their inspirations Novembre lacks this melo and approachable catchy metal sound. However, the influences of Novembre are obvious, so are the ones of Inborn Suffering, Slumber, Estatic Fear and our local Danish heroes from Saturnus.
Vladimir Andreev is responsible for all instruments while Sethaye is only taking care of the vocals. This duo has a lot of qualities but the worse side is this monotony (unless it’s done on purpose?!) and esp. the sound of the drums, where one clearly can hear that those are rather programmed using machines and computers. It is a shame, because with a proper drummer this could have raised the overall quality of this material considerably.
The vocals of Sethaye are on the other hand deep, dark and grunting and fitting perfectly with the overall image of the band.
Usually I would never pay a big attention to this kind of a band, but having in mind that it is only this duo’s debut album, doing all things on their own, I think they can be proud of the final result.

On The Edge Of The NetherRealm is the side project of Revelations of Rain’s guitarist, Vladimir Andreev. The vocals on the album are handled by someone called Sethaye who i know absolutely nothing about but his vocal technique is pretty good. The project has been active since 2005 and this is their first full length release. Musically speaking, this album is very generic of the whole Gothic, Death Doom scene. Death Metal growling vocals, crushing riffs, symphonic keyboard and piano work with a lot of double kick drumming. Is it any good, well i have heard a lot worse, that is for sure. The main problem i have is the album is almost too typical of the genre of metal they are playing but it is played extremely well. Andreev is a exceptional musician and the songs are beautifully constructed but anyone who is familiar with the Gothic Death/Doom scene would have heard it all before a million times.
The bulk of “Different Realms” is made up of mid-paced sections of gloomy, blackened doom metal with twists and turns involving quieter keyboard and piano pieces. The stand out point is in the incredible solo work of Andrevv, this alone is worth the price of admission. He cleverly switches between shredding, screaming solos and classically sounding, complex guitar runs. Some parts of this album really stand out from the rest, opener “Day And Night” is one of them. Its not that much different than Andrevv’s main band “Revelations Of Rain” but you hear subtle other influences that creep in from time to time. Novembre is one of them and he has certainly taken some notice of the way Saturnus do things. “Day And Night” switches between crushing doom to Gothic keyboard/piano driven parts to epic, classic inspired metal and its done with ease, nothing on the track seems overdone or slapped together. “Get The F*** Out From Others” has some killer crunching rhythms although the constant computer enhanced double kick drum work gets a little monotonous after a while. If the drums are not computer-enhanced, they sound like it. You could never describe this album as being organic but the production and sound is gigantic and full.
Other tracks on “Different Realms” like “Boundless Life” and “On The Verge” have their moments. They project that melancholic vibe that this genre of music is based upon and for that, it works. The rest of the album seems pretty standard Goth Death/Doom to me however but beautifully played, again the solo’s make “Different Realms” what it is. There is some outstanding melodies on the album but there is also a lot of filler moments that seem to drag, still good musically but rather predictable. I am positive, there is a huge section of the doom community that loves this brand of doom but i am not one of them right now. My conclusion is if what to hear Gothic Death/Doom played with some real class, then “Different Realms” will mostly satisfy but if you are looking for something different or unique then you might want to look elsewhere.

Eccoci di nuovo qui a parlare della Solitude Prod. e in particolar modo della sua costola Bad Mood Man Records, che raggruppa le uscite piщ malinconiche e meno estreme dell’etichetta russa. Questa volta tocca al progetto chiamato On The Edge Of The Netherrealm, che poi altro non и se non un progetto parallelo di Vladimir Andreev, chitarrista dei Revelations Of Rain (qui recensiti dal nostro Hellvis). Se conoscete la band madre, vi starete chiedendo quanto la proposta di Andreev si discosti dalla fonte e in questo puт giа aiutarci un po’ la catalogazione data dall’etichetta stessa: se infatti i Revelations Of Rain sono a tutti gli effetti una band della Solitude Prod, “Different Realms”, invece, lo troviamo sotto le uscite della Bad Mood Man. Il motivo и molto semplice: da una parte la provenienza di Andreev si sente chiaramente, tant’и che abbiamo a che fare con un classico doom death lento e opprimente; dall’altra, perт, abbiamo delle notevoli aperture melodiche, romantiche e tristi, che ricordano piщ da vicino i nostri Novembre, non a caso citati anche tra le influenze di Vladimir. Il risultato, quindi, и un album ancora assolutamente scuro e plumbeo, ma comunque meno estremo dei Revelations Of Rain.
Entrando piщ nel dettaglio, l’album и formato da otto composizioni, di durata medio/bassa rispetto ai canoni del genere: si va dai quattro minuti agli otto, ma non oltre. Tutte le musiche sono state composte ed eseguite da Andreev, che si occupa di tutti gli strumenti tranne la voce, dove troviamo invece tale Sethaye. Ecco, a proposito della voce и il caso di aprire una parentesi: personalmente l’unica cosa che ho trovato fuori posto и proprio la performance di Sethaye. Il cantante, infatti, si cimenta in un growling profondissimo, un borbottio quasi sussurrato, mai urlato o eccessivamente aggressivo, ma totalmente monocorde. Ci sono pochissime variazioni melodiche e il tutto va a cozzare con quello che sembrerebbe invece l’intento musicale di Andreev, ovvero un giusto equilibrio tra pesantezza doom e melodia. Tanto per dire, i Novembre sono proprio di un altro pianeta da questo punto di vista.
Per quanto riguarda invece il lavoro strumentale e la scrittura le cose vanno decisamente meglio: chiaramente a farla da padrone sono le chitarre che si intrecciano tra linee melodiche e riff cupi, ma anche le tastiere hanno la loro importanza, punteggiando i momenti piщ malinconici con gocce di pianoforte. La qualitа della scrittura и buona, sebbene non si senta niente di eccelso: Andreev conosce bene la materia del doom death e quindi si muove con sicurezza in questo territorio, modulando umori e sensazioni nel lento procedere di ritmiche funeree, intervallate da saltuari sprazzi di energica vitalitа. Cosм abbiamo “Day And Night” che ben rappresenta questa dicotomia tra luce ed ombra; “Solitude”, che non muove di molto le coordinate sonore ma mostra una buona verve epica, cosм come la malinconica “Boundless Life”… Ecco, manca decisamente un po’ di varietа nelle soluzioni scelte da Andreev, tant’и che mi sembra inutile farvi una descrizione traccia per traccia, vista la (forse eccessiva) omogeneitа dei brani. Per esempio, in un pezzo che si intitola “Get The Fuck Out From Others” e dura meno di quattro minuti mi aspettavo un guizzo di rabbia in piщ, una sfuriata death senza controllo, invece и sempre tutto molto misurato, in linea con l’album.
Con la strumentale “Dream” si chiude quindi questo lavoro, che a conti fatti risulta apprezzabile sebbene con ampi margini di miglioramento. Per ora possiamo dire che Andreev ha dimostrato di saper gestire un intero progetto da solo in quasi ogni sua parte e sicuramente questo gli sarа servito molto. Non resta che lasciare che la sua vena creativa si sviluppi ulteriormente e possa portare giovamento non solo ad un eventuale secondo album solista, ma magari anche al prossimo album targato Revelations Of Rain.

Venäläinen On the Edge of the NetherRealm, omaa paitsi pitkähkön nimen, myös jäseniä eräästä aikaisemmin arvostelemastani venäläisestä gootahtavaan death/doom metaliin kallistuvasta tapauksesta. (eli Откровения Дождя) = Revelations of Rain)
Muistikuvat tuosta yhtyeestä olivat jokseenkin, geneerisen, mutta omalla tavallaan ”ihan kivan” goottidoomin suunnalla, ja valitettavasti tämä yhtye ei paljoa paremmaksi pistä.
Bändihän koostuu kahdesta jäsenestä, eli Vladimir Andreevista joka hoitaa kaikki instrumentit Different Realmsilla, sekä Sethayesta, joka puolestaan hoitaa kaikki laulut. Yhtyeen esittämä goottidoom on varmasti sinällään teknisesti varsin pätevää tavaraa, eikä Sethayen musiikkityyliin sinänsä sopivassa korinassa ole mitään sinällään viallaan myöskään.
Mutta onko levyllä yhtään mieleen jäävää sävellystä, tai edes riffiä tai melodianpätkää? Enemmän tai vähemmän valitettavasti täytyy jälleen kerran todeta tämän olevan juuri sellaista ”ihan kiva” kategoriaan menevää, romanttista ja tumman puhuvaa mydyingbride-henkistä goottidoomia, jossa kuullaan perinteisten bändisoittimien ohella myös pianonpimputusta.
Tämä edellä oleva kappale summaa täysin sen, kuinka tavanomaisesta, ja vähän tunteita herättävästä tavarasta on pohjimmiltaan kyse. Pelkkä tuotteliaisuus useissa yhtyeissä ei näköjään takaa aina sitä kaikista mieleen painuvinta, saati omaperäisintä kuuntelukokemusta. Varsinkin kun jos muistikuviini on luottamista, äijän ”pääbändikin” on haukotuttavan lähellä Different Realmsia.

Перед вами сольный альбом гитариста российской doom/death metal группы ОТКРОВЕНИЯ ДОЖДЯ. Видимо мало Владимиру основной команды, чтобы реализовать весь свой музыкальный потенциал в этой жизни. Опять же, можно провести параллели с группой ОТКРОВЕНИЯ ДОЖДЯ, но нужно ли это делать? Материал получился довольно мрачным, атмосферным и на удивление тяжёлым. В каком стиле, думаю итак всем понятно, это всё тот же мелодичный doom/death metal. Лирика представлена здесь, как на русском так и на английском языках. Также нельзя не отметить довольно таки приятное оформление диска. Напоследок только возникает один вопрос: последует ли в будущем продолжение данного проекта?

Etwas schade ist es schon, denn eigentlich lässt sich das erste Album des aus dem russischen Podolsk in der Nähe von Moskau stammenden Duos ON THE EDGE OF NETHERREALM recht vielversprechend an. Das stilgerechte Coverartwork mit wolkenverhangenem Himmel samt einer am felsigen Abgrund stehenden Person sowie der mit einem interessanten Wechselspiel zwischen schweren Gitarren und filigranen Klavierpassagen auftrumpfende Eröffnungssong vermögen durchaus Neugier beim geneigten Todes-Doomer zu erwecken. Leider kann das Niveau von „день и ночь“ bzw. „Day and Night“ im Nachfolgenden nicht ganz gehalten werden, sodass dieser Titel bereits das einzige wirkliche Highlight darstellt. Das größte Manko auf „Different Realms“ sind für meinen Geschmack die etwas zu leisen und zu monotonen, in einer Mischung aus Sprechen und Singen vorgetragenen Death Vocals und der zu geringe Wiedererkennungswert der einzelnen Stücke im Allgemeinen. Als weitere zwei Pluspunkte hingegen sind die multi-instrumentalen Fähigkeiten von Vladimir Andreev, welcher alle Saiten-, Tasten- und Drumklänge selbst einspielte, und das ebenfalls sehr gelungene und den 8 Tracker schließende Instrumental „Dream“ zu verbuchen.

Le guitariste du groupe russe Revelation of Rain s’offre un petit exercice en solo.
A dire vrai, l’illustration de cet album s’avère tout à fait représentative du contenu musical : un individu seul, debout au bord d’une falaise, le paysage étant écrasé par des cieux envahis par des nuages sinistres. Pas étonnant que On The Edge Of The NetherRealm s’ébatte dans les contrées particulièrement désolées du Doom Death sous influences gothiques. Les rythmes sont massifs, le tempo général plutôt lent, avec au final un rendu déprimant à souhait.
Les guitares ne se contentent pas de riffs plombés, elles tissent des mélodies qui, pour être tristes, n’en aèrent pas moins un ensemble très touffu, presque asphyxiant. De même, des touches de claviers constituent un apport gothique qui empêche l’album de verser dans le Doom Death monolithique et monochrome. Quant au chant, il vaudrait mieux parler de vocaux tant les grognements indistincts et hélas trop peu variés se contentent d’alourdir encore une atmosphère déjà très glauque. Au final, un album classique dans le genre, avec pour principal défaut un manque de compositions distinctes et de prise de risque.
