This Split CD introduces two brand new bands to all metal heads all over the world. Each one has it’s own sound and visions of modern doom metal.
Majestic Downfall (Mexico) is a one-man-band, which recaptures the feeling of the 90’s European Doom Metal scene, while mixing it with some more modern Doom Metal overtones.
Main idea of Ansia (Italy) is to find new sounds in the doom scene. Atmospheric music is interesting due to its specific sound. Ansia’s part of the Split has been mixed by Alessio Fagrelli (ex-session keyboards for Deinonychus), who also plays piano on the song “Part I”.

Two Doom bands I had never heard before here – Majestic Downfall from Mexico, and Ansia from Italy. Majestic Downfall is Doom/Death, while Ansia is more Doom/Black with some ambient mixed in. This is one of those splits where you can clearly hear the differences between the two bands, as they sound nothing alike. Majestic Downfall’s Doom/Death is very similar to some European underground bands in the same genre – slow to mid-paced with a good dose of melody popping up all over in what is otherwise more gloomy and heavy. The Death-ish vocals are low and deep growls with a slightly raw edge to them. Even though the atmosphere is doomy (no surprise there), the melodic passages have a little positive edge to them, so this is not overly depressing – just halfway there.
Ansia is a different story, with some very melancholic ambient passages that make a dark rainy day feel like a sunshine in comparison. The music is definitely more Black Metal with Doom undertones – the guitars have that more or less low-fi Black Metal style, but they keyboards and drums follow more of a Doom beat, for a very good result of crushing, mindfucked heaviness. Same for the vocals which come directly from the Black Metal world: tortured rasps that make the songs sound even more like a slow motion trip down to hell. Part II is fully ambient, with a suspense/horror feeling through and through. Just as Mahestic Downfall’s material has some positive-sounding parts, Ansia’s is about as negative as it gets – there’s no light at the end of that tunnel, that’s for sure.
Neither band appears to have a full length, but if they’re able to deliver the same quality of material as can be found on this split, it’s going to be a worthy purchase. In the meantime, this one is definitely worth checking out.

As soon as the first notes of Majestic Downfall hit my eager ears, I leaped three feet in the air with joy. Pardon me for my inappropriate reaction towards this form of doom music but I couldn’t contain myself after listening to band that sounded like an old forgotten favourite – Solar Lovers by Celestial Season. Yes, Majestic Downfall happen to be heavily influenced by the best era of Celestial Season and to an extent by the melodic doom/death act Saturnus, Anathema’s Serenades, and okay, even My Dying Bride for good measure. Brace yourself then, for naturally this kind of music is pervaded with notions of romantic sweetness and consequently, the sadness of irrevocable loss.
The three songs which we have been provided with here are in fact from their The First Abyss demo and last at least seven minutes each. Intricately structured, they flow at a fairly good tempo without boring the crap out of you and respectfully slow down whenever a doleful lead or melody is being played. Vocals are mostly done in that gruff growly voice we are all familiar with and through it emotions are expressed reasonably well. The songs progress in an impulsive manner and somehow even the parts of contrasting moods in them never seem out of place. They are ably supported by the production, which might not be as booming as Solar Lovers’, but is sufficiently heavy and clear. Even though the music on each track is different, the songs are of the same nature and I am afraid dissecting them separately will rob them of their collective enthusiasm and passion. All I can say is that despite being unoriginal, the music of Majestic Downfall is instantly adorable and boldly explores the familiar array of emotions, hope-inspiring as well as despair-ridden.
Majestic Downfall, being a Mexican band, do exceedingly well in recreating semi-melodic European death/doom and end up sounding very convincing and passionate at it.
Ansia, the other band on this doom split are from Italy and unlike Majestic Fall play atmospheric funeral doom metal. Their music is comparable to that of the Finnish bands like Shape of Despair – on their first release and if you were to lift the oppressiveness from it – and a less sorrowful Tyranny but with a much more airy atmosphere. Blend in it the dark and slightly depressive black/doom aura of Deinonychus and some vague faint echoing sounds of the surroundings a la The Bleeding Light and you should be in the position to imagine Ansia’s sound fairly accurately.
Playing gentle piano notes with light synth accentuation, “Part I” begins in a sweet and innocuous manner before plunging hopelessly into the funeral doom pool. Indeed, it feels like settling down in a bathtub filled with cold water to pacify a mind preoccupied with wistful thoughts, and after fully submerging your head in it, your thoughts are suddenly given a new form of expression. Your past memories, stirring lightly in your mind like ripples on the water’s surface, seem intangible just like the world on the other side of the aqueous barrier. “Part II” is a mellow but poignant instrumental that nearing the halfway mark takes sudden a dark turn, the remaining few minutes of the song only consisting of weird droning sounds of laboured deep breathing for instance, suspended in an eerie industrial ambience. “Part III” resumes the funeral doom plodding, the music enveloped in an expansive emotionally-charged atmosphere has long black metal-edged tortured vocals seemingly emanating from a seized throat piercing through it every now and then. Like in the first track, this 15-minute song takes you through its various cleanly laid out stages including the purely ambient ones where your sense of desolation gets overwhelming, and it ends not without having you completely empathising with the feelings that it is striving to evoke through its music.
Ansia’s vast, drawing atmosphere makes them different from your average funeral doom band. Emotionally rich but far from mawkish, their music is apt for cogitation.

It was quite a surprise for me to get through this really good split CD. Majestic Downfall an one man’s band delivers mournful yet melodic music in slow and mid tempos. Three songs are include din this split CD (A Bird’s departure, In The Ocean Of Fears, A Tear Of Understanding). Their music reminded me of old My dying Bride -a little- thanks to the growling vocals and characteristic lead guitar themes. In times that become even more aggressive but soon they return to mourn.
Ansia are from Italy and they are sounding even deeper, atmospheric but meanwhile experimental letting their music drive to the listener in a journey enforced by ambient atmospheres, Black Metal touches, aggressive vocals of sadness and ultra slow riffs in ever more slow tempos. Three songs by them are also included in three (Part I, Part II, Part III), three songs building a stone wall of a strange and ultra heavy sound.
The final piece of the puzzle in this split CD is completed by the great artwork. In the booklet you can also find the lyrics of all the song. For sure this split CD is a good chance for both the bands (who have previously released only demo) to be listened by more people. I hope this release would be the first step for both on a path with even more releases.

Ottimo split-cd quello che mi accingo a recensire rilasciato per la russa Solitude Production (sinceramente non capisco perché debba ricevere una copia masterizzata quando c’è una label alle spalle) da Majestic Downfall e Ansia.
I primi, in realtà, sono una one-man band da circa un decennio attiva nella scena metal estrema messicana: il master mind Jacobo, infatti, dopo aver suonato il basso per 10 anni negli Antiqua, ha deciso di optare per un futuro solista in quel genere death/doom che da molto tempo lo vede protagonista.
I tre brani dello split in esame sono caratterizzati da un’atmosfera pregna di pathos tanto che, se non fosse per il cavernoso growl di chiara matrice death, non esiterei a definire la proposta esclusivamente doom: i punti di riferimento del polistrumentista messicano sono, indubbiamente, Paradise Lost e Katatonia e questo è anche il limite della creatura di Jacopo che non si distacca molto dalla lezione impartita dalle succitate band risultando nel complesso prevedibile.
Ciò nonostante, la produzione eccellente e le atmosfere plumbee disegnate dal sudamericano conferiscono un respiro notevole al lavoro che merita di essere supportato.
Di ben altra caratura, già dal punto di vista compositivo, si presentano le composizioni dei nostrani Ansia: “Apocalyptic Doom Metal” è il genere affrontato dal terzetto riminese che propone tre lunghi brani dai contorni fortemente depressive che non lasciano speranza alcuna come se si percorresse un tunnel senza via d’uscita.
Ritmi lenti ed angoscianti, atmosfere fredde ed opprimenti, vocals agonizzanti che rendono difficile carpire i testi introspettivi declamati in lingua madre: questo ci offrono in dono gli Ansia con Part I, Part II e Part III che, pur segnate da una produzione meno brillante rispetto ai precedenti tre brani, esprimono originalità e sperimentazione.
In conclusione, questo split si presenta interessante soprattutto grazie alla band nostrana.

Aus Mexiko kommt MAJESTIC DOWNFALL und ist ein Ein-Mann-Projekt, das sich dem Death Doom verschrieben hat. Mit drei Beiträgen und einer jeweiligen Spieldauer von rund acht Minuten macht Jacobo auch gleich deutlich, dass er es ernst meint. Allerdings gibt es hier nur selten schleppende Parts, überwiegend geht es recht flott zu, hat bisweilen sogar einen rockigen Touch, ohne dabei aber aus dem Rahmen Death Doom heraus zu fallen, und das ist wirklich interessant. Hin und wieder finden sich auch Melodieläufe, die sich ohne weiteres auch im Gothic Doom zu Hause fühlen würden, nur kitschig wird das ganze nie.
Im Gegenteil, trotz des etwas höheren Tempos und der feinen Melodien herrscht hier eine bedrückende, dunkle Atmosphäre vor. Die dunkle, rauhe Stimme tut ihr Übriges und Gänsehaut ist hier durchaus garantiert. Jacobo arbeitet mit ausgesprochen simplen, aber sehr effektiven Mitteln, und nur im letzten der drei Songs wird zur Unterstützung ein Keyboard eingesetzt. Dieser unterscheidet sich aber in mehrerer Hinsicht von den anderen. Der ‘Blastpart’ in der Mitte des Songs droht beinahe völlig zu entgleisen, vor allem stimmlich, fängt sich aber schnell wieder und kehrt zurück in die noch etwas flottere Songstruktur. Bis auf diesen kurzen Ausrutscher ist hier qualitativ aber durchweg nix zu beanstanden.
Auch aus einem Sonnenland, nämlich Italien, kommen ANSIA, die sich der Mixtur aus Doom und Black Metal mit Ambient angenommen haben, und in der Tat geht es hier weitaus düsterer zu. Heraus kommt eine stimmige Legierung aus stark ambientlastigen Songstrukturen, die Teils tatsächlich auf BM basieren, Teils dem Funeral Doom zugerechnet werden können. Vor allem die Vocals sind sehr schwarz angehaucht, aber auch die Gitarrenarbeit ist hörbar dem depressiven Black Metal nicht abgeneigt, dennoch würde ich das immer noch eindeutig Doom nennen.
Dementsprechend geht es hier sehr schleppend zu, auch wenn es für nen Kaffee zwischen den Drumschlägen nicht ganz reicht. Über die meist sehr dezenten Drums legen sich schleppende, verzerrte Gitarren und allerlei Geräuschkulisse, die aus dem Ambient stammt und ab und an finden sich feine Klavierparts und darunter flächige Synths. Nein, überladen wirkt das ganze trotzdem nicht und was das Trio aus Rimini hier fabriziert, kann sich wirklich mehr als hören lassen.
Fast eine Stunde Doom gibt es auf dieser Split zweier junger Bands, die beide im Jahre 2006 ihre ersten Demos veröffentlichten. Dass Solitude Productions sich dieser Bands annimmt, wundert nicht, ist man doch von dem kleinen russischen Label Qualität gewohnt (HIEROPHANT, EVOKEN, EA,…) und auch diese beiden Bands enttäuschen nicht. Sie sind recht unterschiedlich und repräsentieren zwei Randerscheinungen des Doom, die eine eher rockig, die andere eher Funeral Doom/Black. Freunden dunkler Klänge kann ich hier nur unbedingtes Probehören empfehlen, mindestens eine der beiden Bands ohne Sonne im Herzen schmeckt jedem Doomfreund.

Con un po’ di ritardo vado a recensire questo split tra i messicani Majestic Downfall e gli italiani Ansia, pubblicato a fine 2007 dalla Solitude Productions. Devo dire che l’etichetta russa in questo caso ha fatto davvero un’ottima scelta, permettendo alla gente con un unico cd, della durata di un’ora, di conoscere due nuove realtà molto differenti tra loro ma entrambe interessanti.
Poco più di venti minuti sono dedicati alle tre tracce dei Majestic Downfall, ovvero il progetto solista del messicano
Jacobo Cordova, che si è occupato appunto di tutti gli strumenti e le voci. La sua proposta è fortemente legata al death-doom dei primi anni ’90, quindi si sentono forti gli echi dei vecchi My Dying Bride, Anathema, Paradise Lost e altri nomi storici di questo genere. I pezzi presi singolarmente, anche se non originali, sono secondo me abbastanza validi, soprattutto “A birds departure” e “In an ocean of fears”, mentre la terza “A tear of understanding” finisce per risultare abbastanza prolissa e noiosa. Nonostante ciò comunque questi tre pezzi finiscono per essere ben godibili, anche per merito di una buona produzione.
Molto differente è invece la proposta degli Ansia, costituiti su questo split da Ruben, Steven ed Ethere, con quest’ultimo che ha abbandonato il progetto successivamente all’uscita del cd. Parlo di progetto perché si tratta più di una collaborazione tra musicisti che di un gruppo vero e proprio, con Alessio Fagrelli (ex tastierista dei
Morgana’s Kiss e session dei Deinonychus) che si è occupato del mixaggio e della masterizzazione, nonché della parte di pianoforte presente in “Part I”. Il punto di partenza e di riferimento è sempre il doom metal, ma la proposta degli Ansia si distingue per originalità da quella di molti altri gruppi doom, dal momento che i tre inseriscono anche richiami a sonorità black metal o ad atmosfere ambient. “Ansia” è esattamente il nome appropriato per una band di questo tipo, la cui musica è costantemente cupa, angosciante, claustrofobica, sofferente, senza speranza, anche nelle sue parti più di atmosfera e dilatate; le chitarre spesso formano un vero e proprio “muro sonoro”, la voce è disperata e sofferta e i testi in italiano permettono di capire meglio e di sentire più intensamente il messaggio degli Ansia. Non mi dilungo molto ma a mio avviso questri tre pezzi vanno ascoltati molto bene e a fondo per poterli apprezzare come si deve, anche per merito dell’originalità compositiva che mostrano.
In conclusione uno split-cd molto interessante per gli amanti delle sonorità più cupe e pesanti del metal,
complimenti alla Solitude per aver messo sotto contratto due valide bands!

Interessante split CD fra i messicani Majestic Downfall e gli italiani Ansia per la Solitude Productions.
In realtà ho sempre apprezzato tantissimo questo tipo di operazioni, perché in un colpo solo si ha la possibilità di conoscere due entità, due gruppi magari anche diversissimi fra loro.
Nel nostro caso, pur essendo il doom estremo anni ’90 il comune denominatore, ciascun gruppo (one man band nel caso dei primi) ha un proprio background culturale: primissimi Lacrimas Profundere ed in generale il death/doom per i Majestic Downfall e utlradoom/ambient (non so citare nessun gruppo come termine di paragone) per gli Ansia.
Appare quindi naturale una diversa evoluzione nel songwriting e nella resa sonora da parte di questi due gruppi: se i primi sono più ortodossi e anche prevedibili nelle scelte se vogliamo, puntando sulla sicurezza di un genere già standardizzato anni fa, gli Ansia giocano la carta dell’imprevedibilità, associando ad una magistrale tecnica strumentale una buona dose di sperimentazione stilistica e personalità.
Non sto a citare alcun pezzo fra quelli delle due tracklist per non fare torto a nessuno, ma ci tengo solamente a sottolineare che entrambi i gruppi se presi singolarmente sono già pronti per prove soliste ben più impegnative.
Detto questo ci si trova dinnanzi comunque ad un prodotto per intenditori, per tutti coloro che abbiano anche una minima conoscenza di quel filone nato agli inizi degli anni ’90 e che si evolve fino ai giorni nostri (per info consultate l’apposita sezione DOOM GATE) giacché per tutti gli altri potrebbe essere un piatto un po’ pesante da digerire.
Registrazione e packaging di tutto rispetto fanno di questo split CD un ottimo dischetto, senza vincitori ne vinti, ma con due buone rappresentazioni (diverse fra loro) di quello che é il doom estremo.

Un groupe mexicain et un groupe italien signés sur un label russe, on peut difficilement faire split plus hétéroclite. Le label Solitude productions, spécialisé dans le doom au sens large, à décider de réunir sur un même CD deux de ses récentes signatures aux styles bien distincts, les méxicains (enfin LE mexicain, puisque c’est un one man band) de Majestic downfall et les italiens d’Ansia. Peu de choses en commun entre les deux formations, si ce n’est la qualité…
Majestic downfall, one man band mexicain, ouvre les hostilités avec trois titres de plus de 7 minutes, largement inspirés par la scène doom/death européenne des années 90. Difficile de ne pas évoquer les My dying bride, Anathema ou Katatonia des débuts au fil de ses trois morceaux au chant growlé, aux rythmiques de plomb et aux thèmes de guitare lead mélancoliques jusqu’au bout des cordes. Pas original pour un sou, c’est un fait, mais Jacobo (l’homme se cachant derrière Majestic downfall) réussi à faire passer beaucoup d’émotion à travers ces mélodies simples et directes et les passages de voix pleurnichardes empruntées à Darren White (l’ancien vocaliste d’Anathema). Au final, les trois morceaux passent très bien et on ne s’ennuie pas. Reste à voir sur album, si l’interêt perdure après la demi heure…
Après le metal un brin mélancolique avec Majestic downfall, changement d’ambiance avec Ansia qui propose un univers beaucoup plus sombre et funéraire, suicidaires s’abstenir. Le style des italiens est plus difficilement définissable: on est plongé dans une atmosphère profonde, dépressive, glauque et oppressante, entre funeral doom, dark ambient et black metal. Articulée sur deux longs titres de près d’un quart d’heure chacun (« Part I » et « Part III ») et d’un autre morceaux de transition de seulement 5 minutes (« Part II ») aux sonorités drone/doom tout aussi inquiétantes que le reste, la musique d’Ansia rampe sur une rythmique extrêmement lente soutenue par une basse sourde et hypnotique, les guitares développant des thèmes sombres et grésillants. Très atmosphérique dans son approche, Ansia n’hésite pas à élargir le spectre sonore en incorporant à sa musique des intros au piano ou des breaks ambiants pleins de bruitages sortis tout droit des enfers. Du sur mesure pour les amateurs d’ambiance pesantes.
Voici donc un split bien rempli et bien agréable avec deux sympathiques découvertes. Si Majestic downfall ne brille pas par son originalité, la qualité de ses mélodies lui offre les portes d’un bon 6,5/10. Ansia, grâce à une personnalité affirmée et une ambiance dark bien ficelée mérite son 8/10. Les mathématiciens les plus aguerris auront, par la magie de formules et d’algorithmes aussi pointus que complexes, conclu que j’attribue 7,25 à ce CD. Et voyant que Solitude prod ne se moque ni des groupes en présence ni du consommateur en soignant la pochette et le livret, qui contient notamment toutes les paroles, j’arrondis à 7,5. Soyons fous, c’est mérité…

Ez a megosztott split cd két formációt takar. Az egyik egy Ansia nevezetű olasz csapat, míg a másik egy Majestic Downfall néven futó mexikói project. Mindkét banda 3-3 nótával képviselteti magát.
A lemezt a mexikói egyszemélyes Majestic Downfall nyitja. A zene valahol a death/doom metal kategóriába sorolandó. Az összes hangszert „Jacobo” szólaltatja meg, ami dicsérendő dolog, mert nem csak gitározik, hanem dobol és szintetizátorozik is a dalokban. A nyitó „A Birds Departure” semmi érdekeset nem mutat; lassan hömpölygő ólomsúlyú gitártémák, gyomorból jövő hörgés. A változatosságot talán a néha begyorsuló death-es döngölések szolgáltatják, ám ezeknek a száma sajnos elenyésző. Aztán a második „In an Ocean of Fears” már egy jóval dallamosabb szerzemény, nem kevés melankolikus utánérzéssel. A harmadik „A Tear of Understanding” pedig ragadós riffjével kellemes perceket tud szerezni. Ha kicsit jobban kidolgozottak lennének a billentyűs hangszerek és nem csak egy-két riffből építkeznének a dalok még elégedett is lennék, igaz így sem rossz ez a három nóta.
Az olasz Ansia már egy kicsit más képet mutat. Itt a doom metal mellet számos ambient zenékre jellemző hatás is érvényesül. A három nóta közül kettő majdnem a negyed órás határt súrolja, így nem árulok el nagy titkot hogy nem a sebesség a fő csapásvonal. A nyitó „Part I”-ben ez be is igazolódik. Lassan vánszorgó, hosszan elnyújtott kietlen zene ez. A vízhangosított ének még pluszba rá is tesz erre a hangulatra. Eléggé primitív dobtémák és elszállós pengetős gitárjáték jellemzi a dalt, a zongorás levezető viszont kellemesnek hat. A „Part II” teljesen instrumentális dal, fenyegetően gonosz (black metalos) hangulattal. A lemez utolsó dala sem váltja meg a világot, az említett recept alapján íródott, mely szerintem már az enyhén fárasztó kategória, igaz a végére enyhe begyorsulásokat is iktattak, de ezek sem tartanak pár másodpercnél tovább.
A két banda közül mindenképpen a mexikói áll hozzám közelebb. Ám fanatikus gyűjtőknek kifejezetten ajánlott ez a split beszerzése. Ha pontoznom kéne akkor a Majestic Downfall kapna egy nyolcast az Ansia egy hatost tehát az átlag egy kis fejszámolással:

Compartido a través del sello ruso independiente Solitude Productions. Majestic Downfall esconde el proyecto casi unipersonal del mexicano Jacobo Cordova, salvo por la contribución letrística. Con el espíritu del Doom incipiente en los primigenios Anathema o Paradise Lost, puenteado con unos My Dying Bride más del “The Angel and the Dark River” y algún giro moderno, ofrece momentos eclipsantes como el inicio de “In an Ocean of Fears”. Discreto nivel técnico, suficiente para crear un par de fragmentos fabulosos en “A Birds Departure”, aunque pululando por caducos oasis es fácil volver a toparse con el desierto compositivo. Pienso que el mayor bajón lo provoca la voz gutural, demasiado forzada, mas no exenta de algún momento de afinidad o, como ocurre cuando entran los teclados en el primer corte, simpática.
Ansia, por su parte, creo que está más cercana a la frágil sinceridad de exponerse ante sí misma, mostrándose angustiosamente desnuda. Expresándose en su lengua materna, el italiano, imprimen a ese halo de frío cósmico y depresión que es su música, un apego de visceralidad. Me han venido a la mente los pluscuamperfectos Esoteric, por los efectos de los instrumentos y esas divagaciones opresivas que brotan no se sabe muy bien cuando y se diluyen interminablemente. “Part I”, “Part II” y “Part III” para escuchar conceptualmente y con la mente en blanco. Se llevan buena parte en el pastel del minutero y me han gustado bastante estos últimos, pero hay que estar predispuesto y, ojo, puede ser un poco cargante.

Nel corso degli anni, l’etichetta russa Solitude si и guadagnata una discreta fama tra gli amanti del doom metal, con una predilezione per le sue sfaccettature piщ deprimenti. Una fama piщ che giustificata, visto il valore delle sue pubblicazioni. Io stesso ne ho commentate in gran numero, e giuro di non averne ascoltata una che potesse considerarsi trascurabile.
E’ quindi con soddisfazione che mi sono apprestato agli ascolti di questo split, tra i messicani Majestic Downfall e gli italiani Ansia: due gruppi che interpretano in maniera profondamente differente il medesimo genere.
La copertina di questo CD и astratta, giocata su tutta una serie di colori, con una predominanza del rosso. Il libretto di otto pagine contiene tutti i testi, e le informazioni relative ai gruppi ed alle registrazioni. Come di consueto, quando si ha a che fare con la Solitude, ci troviamo di fronte ad un artwork professionale, senza difetti.
La prima parte dello split spetta ai Majestic Downfall. In realtа, ho usato il plurale a sproposito in quanto si tratta di una one-man-band. La mente di questo progetto и Jacobo Cordova, di Queretaro in Messico, giа attivo per dieci anni con gli Antiqua, e al lavoro con Ticket To Hell. Majestic Downfall ha mosso i suoi primi passi nell’agosto del 2006, e nel 2007 ha pubblicato il demo “The First Abyss”, e a seguire questo split con gli Ansia.
Jacobo Cordova fa tutto, ma proprio tutto, nei Majestic Downfall. Si occupa di voce, chitarra, basso, batteria e tastiere. Solo i testi li ha scritti un tale Mauricio Ramirez.
La sua parte di split и stata registrata ai Guest Room Studios, che non so se si trovino in Messico o negli Stati Uniti. Infatti, a quanto pare Jacobo ha formato i Majestic Downfall mentre si trovava a Dallas, in Texas.
Sia come sia, и della musica che dobbiamo scrivere. La sezione di questo progetto messicano и costituita da tre canzoni: “A Birds Departure”, “In An Ocean Of Fears” e “A Tear Of Understanding”. Si tratta di brani dal minutaggio limitato, considerato il genere: sette, otto minuti per ciascuno. Quindi, niente tour-de-force interminabili nei meandri dell’oscuritа piщ assoluta. Ci troviamo di fronte a tre canzoni agili, melodiche e vivaci, per quanto questi aggettivi possano adattarsi al doom/death. Un doom/death legato alla tradizione del genere, un po’ nostalgico degli anni ’90. Questo genere musicale и interpretato da Jacobo con vero trasporto e passione, in un tripudio di idee. Quindi niente riff interminabili che si ripetono per lunghi minuti, e ritmiche soffocanti quanto minimali. No, qui il doom/death и di facile ascolto, vuoi per i numerosi cambi di melodia, vuoi di ritmo, fattori che ne rendono la struttura varia ed agevole.
La bontа della registrazione, e la professionalitа dell’artista, non fanno sembrare i Majestic Downfall una one-man-band. Le tre canzoni qui presenti possono sembrare il prodotto di un gruppo fatto e finito, i cui membri siano ben affiatati fra di loro. Eppure, tutto ciт che si ascolta и stato realizzato dal solo Jacobo. Il quale si dimostra abile a creare riff carichi di malinconia, di rendere piщ intense le emozioni grazie alle note della tastiera, ed ad accompagnare il tutto con precisione suonando basso e batteria. Il suo growling rende comprensibili le parole dei testi, secondo me un po’ privi di significato, ma carichi di suggestione con i suoi richiami all’amore defunto, al mare che tutto inghiotte, alle lacrime e alla desolazione.
Come ho scritto in precedenza, nonostante le tematiche funeree, il songwriting и vivace e potrebbe venire incontro a tutti coloro che apprezzino il doom, anche quello classico, ma che non riescano a soffrire le interminabili dilatazioni del funeral doom, genere principe della Solitude Prod.
Quindi, tre buone canzoni per una one-man-band nata solo nel 2006, e quindi con tanto tempo davanti a sи per sviluppare meglio il proprio stile (a volte un po’ derivativo), ed acquisire esperienza.
La seconda parte del CD и ad opera degli italiani Ansia, da Rimini. Il gruppo si и formato nella primavera del 2006, da un’idea di Ruben (batteria, anche nei Black Holocaust), Steven (chitarre) e Ethere (voce, basso, sintetizzatore). Con questa formazione, il gruppo ha inciso le traccie presenti in questo split, con la supervisione di Alessio Fagrelli (giа session con Deinonychus), che ha aiutato il gruppo suonando anche il piano nella prima delle tre composizioni.
Attualmente, Ethere ha lasciato il gruppo, ed al suo posto и arrivato M., giа in Cervix, Sleeping Village e Blue Deers.
Per quanto riguarda le note discografiche, prima di questo split il gruppo ha realizzato un demo, “I”, mai pubblicato.
Ecco, il doom proposto dagli Ansia и diametralmente opposto a quello di Majestic Downfall. Tanto vivace, agile e quasi “catchy” il primo, quanto lento, disturbante, interminabile e distruttivo il secondo. Le tre composizioni degli Ansia, denominate “Part I”, “Part II” e “Part III”, sono funeree e disperate. Era tempo che non mi capitava di ascoltare musica del genere, suonata da una band italiana. E si tratta di composizioni di prima qualitа, che funzionano prese singolarmente, ma che possono essere godute nella loro completezza solo se ascoltate una dopo l’altra. I testi, in italiano, sono particolarmente suggestivi, e legano con la tristezza infinita della musica, interminabile ed implacabile. La potenza и diluita in cambi di note sporadici, e tutto и dilatato allo spasimo: ritmo, rifferama, vocalizzi. Come scrivo spesso quando mi trovo di fronte a questo genere, si tratta di una musica piщ da vivere che da ascoltare. Ascoltando le tre composizioni con la giusta predisposizione d’animo, e facile lasciarsi avvolgere dall’oscuritа, e farsi trascinare in un viaggio disperato, trasportati senza potersi muovere come un cadavere sulle onde del mare. E il funeral doom sfocia quasi nel drone, nell’ambient piщ oscura e nel postcore in occasione del secondo movimento, solo strumentale: sicuramente una delle sezioni piщ sinistre e deprimenti che abbia ascoltato negli ultimi tempi.
Gli Ansia si sono lanciati in un genere difficile, perт hanno prodotto tre canzoni di livello. Suonare questo tipo di doom и una cosa ingrata, perchи pochi sono in grado di apprezzarlo e di capirlo. Ma certe suggestioni sono impossibili da ricreare con formule musicali differenti. Come Majestic Downfall, anche Ansia и un gruppo giovane. A differenza perт del primo, i secondo hanno giа un suono molto personale, sebbene difficile. Ma и proprio questo il punto di partenza per creare qualcosa di unico, che sicuramente non porterа al successo personale, ma che potrа conquistare un posto di rilievo nella storia e nello sviluppo del genere. Gli Ansia sono agli esordi, ma proseguendo per questa strada potranno dar vita a lavori artisticamente di rilievo.
Dunque, questo split tra Majestic Downfall ed Ansia non ha deluso. Naturale. Ormai si potrebbero comprare le pubblicazioni della Solitude a scatola chiusa! Acquistando questo CD, si ha l’occasione di ascoltare due modi diversi di intendere il doom, ma anche la riprova di quante potenzialitа abbia questo fantastico genere musicale.

Majestic Downfall e Ansia: i primi una one man band messicana, i secondi un trio riminese. Strano connubio legato insieme da sonorità doomeggianti. In questo split editato dalla russa Solitude Production trovano spazio tre tracce per ognuna delle sue band. Ad aprire sono i messicani, creatura di Jacobo, che meritoriamente si occupa di tutti gli strumenti e della voce. Il nostro si rifà abbastanza sfacciatamente ai Paradise Lost di “Gothic” e ai My Dying Bride di “Turn Loose The Swans”, quindi lo si trova alle prese con un gothic death doom abbastanza manierista seppure ben fatto. Jacobo è innanzitutto in possesso di un discreto growling, abbastanza profondo ma anche piuttosto intelligibile. Molto spazio è dato alle chitarre, che ripercorrono strade tracciate anni or sono da Gregor Mackintosh, ma non mancano aperture melodiche contraddistinte dalle tastiere. Le tre tracce comunque scorrono via in maniera piacevole ma tutto sommato ci mostrano una band ancora acerba ed un sound innocuo. Voto: 5,5.
Diverso è l’approccio degli Ansia. Innanzitutto le tre composizioni degli italiani sono maggiormente profonde e complesse, tanto è vero che la prima e la terza traccia hanno una durata ben superiore ai dieci minuti. Il doom qui è una componente decisamente radicata, ma che deve incontrarsi/scontrarsi con il black e con inserti ambient piuttosto ben fatti. Particolarità dei nostri è che il singer Ethere (peraltro fuoriuscito dalla band) si esprime in italiano, a sottolineare il rapporto intenso con le proprie origini. Per il resto siamo davanti ad una proposta maggiormente convincente rispetto a quella dei Majestic Downfall: qui, nonostante la produzione non sia brillante, si percepiscono soluzioni più efficaci, frutto di un lavoro di songwriting più profondo e personale. Il doom black degli Ansia è sempre molto atmosferico e soffuso, con chitarra e tastiere a rubarsi i pochi solismi e la voce che ricopre un ruolo marginale rispetto alla musica (il secondo brano è addirittura strumentale). Decisamente un buon esordio per questa band: ora aspettiamo che la line up si assesti e che sfornino qualcosa di nuovo senza coabitazioni forzate. Voto: 6,5.

CD compartido por estas dos bandas de Doom, de las cuales la primera es un proyecto de un músico de México llamado Jacobo, el cual se encarga de todos los instrumentos y voces y nos trae esta propuesta de Doom/Death, en la que intenta recuperar el espíritu del estilo por los años 90, mezclada con toques más modernos, y el resultado es un estilo bastante cercano al “Icon” de Paradise Lost, pero con voces guturales, es decir, guitarras bastante Heavies, cruces de melodías y ritmos de batería que nunca llegan a ser del todo lentos. Tres temas con aproximadamente 25 min. de duración completan este buen trabajo, aunque un poco comercial, pero a seguidores de los primeros Cemetary, o Paradise Lost, supongo que les enganchará su estilo.
Los siguentes son una banda de Italia que lo que incluyen en este CD es su demo del 2006 titulada “I”, con tres temas y una duración de 35 min. Su estilo es una mezcla de Funeral Doom con muchas influencias de Black depresivo, consiguiendo unas atmósferas súper oscuras e inquietantes. Su música es de lo más lenta y opresiva, con desquiciantes voces desgarradas y estridentes guitarras, que por ocasiones me recuerdan a Dolorian, aunque estos son más lineales y oscuros.
Un buen disco, con bandas que profundizan en los opuestos de un mismo estilo y que cada una en lo suyo, no tiene desperdicio.

Eine recht feine Split-CD, die da Solitude Productions, ein Label, von welchem man in Doom Kreisen immer mehr hört, zusammengestellt haben. MAJESTIC DOWNFALL ist ein Projekt aus Mexiko, welches sich dem europäischen Death Doom Metal der Neunziger Jahre widmet. ANSIA hingegen kommen aus Italien und haben sich eher dem Funeral Doom verschrieben.
Die ersten drei Stücke stammen von MAJESTIC DOWNFALL, einem im August 2006 gestarteten Soloprojekt des Protagonisten Jacobo Cordova (Ex-ANTIQUA). Der atmosphärische, melodische Death Doom Metal ist geprägt von schwermütigen, melancholischen Riffs und harmonischen Leads, getragenem Schlagzeugspiel und tiefen Growls. Die überlangen, durchaus eingängigen Stücke werden äußerst gekonnt in Szene gesetzt, durch dezent eingesetzte Keyboards mit interessanten Klängen und einige Tempovariationen wird für Abwechslung gesorgt. Als Vergleiche seien hier die frühen KATATONIA, PARADISE LOST, MY DYING BRIDE, CELESTIAL SEASON, NOVEMBERS DOOM und AUTUMNAL genannt. Feine Sache, wenn auch nicht sehr innovativ.
Weitaus düsterer und apokalyptischer gehen die ebenfalls 2006 gegründeten Italiener ANSIA zu Werke. Anstatt mit Songtiteln sind die drei Stücke jeweils nur nummeriert, passend zu den minimalistischen, äußerst monotonen Klänge der Funeral Doomer. Richtig aufhorchen lassen ANSIA, wenn Keyboard/Piano schöne Soundteppiche zaubern und mit sphärischer Musik zum Träumen einladen. Sofort stellt sich eine wohlige, bittersüße Atmosphäre ein. Gleiches gilt für die depressiven, halbakustischen Gitarrenspielereien. So könnten sie wenn es nach mir ginge ewig weitermachen, denn die eigentlichen Metalparts empfinde ich manchmal noch als etwas holprig und unausgegoren. Allgemein ist der Funeral Doom von unterschiedlichen Stimmungen geprägt, mal bedrohlich düster, verstörend, mal eher hypnotisch melancholisch. Die Melodien sind rarer gesät und nicht so vordergründig wie bei MAJESTIC DOWNFALL. Erinnert mich hier und da ein wenig an eine Mischung aus BLUT AUS NORD, EVOKEN und SKEPTICISM.
Für absolute Doom-Fanatiker dürfte sich die Anschaffung dieser Split-CD sicherlich lohnen, auch wenn hier noch nicht alles Gold ist, was glänzt.

This half Doom, half Black Metal split begins with the rhythmic and slow-marching guitar tones of MAJESTIC DOWNFALL. While they are nothing new for the genre, when combined with the band’s keyboard melodies, the sound does bring to mind the tuneful tendencies of a group like DRACONIAN. These, dare I say it, majestic musical predilections contrast with much of the vocal work by “Jacobo,” the band’s single member. Ranging from run-of-the-mill Death Metal gutturals (except slower) to forced grunting, as heard on “A Tear Of Understanding,” the lack of musical cohesion with the vocal performance is perhaps the band’s weakest point.
This lack of cohesiveness appears in other aspects of the band’s sound as well. In the first song, “A Birds [sic] Departure,” the keyboards are meant to evoke the tone of a flute, either of the orchestral or pan variety, something that many bands have done successfully in the past. While the melody is nice, the actual sound comes across more like that of a recorder and what could have been a breathe of sonic variation instead comes across as silly. This is unfortunate, since a simple pre-recording sound check or tuning could have solved this problem. Still, these songs are pleasant enough and certainly serve their purpose for a listen or two, it’s just hard to imagine going back to them for repeats.
Despite Jacobo’s musical weaknesses, MAJESTIC DOWNFALL’s contributions to this split border on beauteous when compared to the dissonant/ambient Black Metal of Italy’s ANSIA. For the first and last compositions from the band, elongated instrumental screeching, distant croaking passing for vocals, and a total lack of bass sound in the recording are the foremost contributions. Think of LEVIATHAN at its most meandering, only more boring and inept. This formula changes on “Part II,” as the song attempts to be a mood-setting or atmospheric piece, but instead comes off as nothing more than a series of random guitar strums and tonal humming. This makes MAJESTIC DOWNFALL come off rather well; at least that band doesn’t cause painful headaches.

Venäläinen Solitude Productions jatkaa hitaanpuoleisten metallilevyjen julkaisua kiitettävällä tahdilla, ja tällä kertaa vuorossa onkin split-levy meksikolaisen Majestic Downfallin ja italialaisen Ansian välillä. Molemmat bändit on perustettu vuonna 2006 ja kumpaisellakin on takanaan vain yksi demojulkaisu. Kieltämättä kokemattomuus paistaakin läpi molempien bändien otteista.
Splitin käynnistää Majestic Downfall, joka esiintyy levyllä kolmen My Dying Bride -henkisen melodoom-biisin voimin. Jos tahtovat tämän yhden miehen bändin veisut muuten valua korvakäytävien läpi sen suurempaa vaikutusta tekemättä, jää biiseissä käytetty viulusoundi mieleen yhtenä ärsyttävimmistä ikinä. Kun vaikkapa internet on pullollaan ties mitä sampleja, onko viralliselle levylle pitänyt ruiskia “viulut” sillä kuppaisimmalla mahdollisella synasoundilla? Muutenkin Majestic Downfallin soundit ovat jokseenkin voimattomat ja ohuet. Sävellykset ovat puolestaan kulmikkaita ja varsin mitäänsanomattomia, tyylilajin tunnusomaisimmat kikat vaivalloisesti läpikäyviä veisuja.
Ansian kolmen biisin hautajaispyrähdys on onneksi hieman vakuuttavampaa jälkeä. Italialaisilla on aseenaan kaiketi jonkinlaiseksi funeral doomiksi määriteltävä hidastelu, ja bändi on onnistunut sekoittamaan mukaan sävyjä myös tummasta ambientista ja kenties hieman jopa black metalista – olkoonkin että se ei alansa synkein yhtye olekaan. Kolkohko soundimaailma ja vastentahtoisesti eteenpäin rullaavat biisit osoittavat Ansian ehdottomasti omaavan jonkinlaista potentiaalia, vaikka sävellykset hieman tylsänpulskeita vielä ovatkin. Toki kolkkoutta ja anti-groovea voi biiseihin tuoda vielä röyhkeämminkin.
Julkaisun keskiarvo jää siis auttamatta varsin neutraaliksi;

Split zespołów: meksykańskiego MAJESTIC DOWNFALL i włoskiego ANSIA to bardzo trafne zestawienie. Wprawdzie pochodzą z bardzo odmiennych zakątków świata, ale obydwa grają muzykę garściami czerpiącą z kanonu doom metalu pierwszej połowy lat `90. Każdy z nich umieścił na tym pozbawionym tytułu wydawnictwie trzy długie kompozycje, łącznie trwające zegarową godzinę. Są one klimatyczne, mroczne, dołujące. Doom/deathowy MAJESTIC DOWNFALL to projekt multiinstrumentalisty o imieniu Jacobo. Muzyk ten już blisko 20 lat temu tworzył dark metal pod nazwą ANTIQUA, firmuje również death/thrasowy TICKET TO HELL. Na splicie z ANSIA umieścił swoje pierwsze demo „The First Abyss” z 2007. Tempa utworów MAJESTIC DOWNFALL są wolne lub umiarkowane. Nawet jak się nierzadko ożywiają, muzyka nie traci nic ze swojego posępnego, ciężkiego charakteru. Taki też jest growl – głęboki, grobowy. W klasyczny sposób (chociaż nie dominujący na płycie) są także wykorzystywane w tej muzyce instrumenty klawiszowe. Gitarowe riffy mają w sobie pewną melodię. Kompozycje MAJESTIC DOWNFALL tak są skonstruowane, że wdziera się do nich charakterystyczna dla tego stylu monotonia, ale i tak słucha się ich dobrze. Część albumu należąca do ANSIA to ponownie cała demówka tejże grupy z roku 2006, zatytułowana po prostu „I”. Pierwszy utwór rozpoczyna się delikatnymi, fortepianowymi frazami z syntezatorami brzmiącymi jak skrzypki (nagrał je dla Włochów klawiszowiec, który kiedyś współpracował z holenderskim DEINONYCHUS, a i zajął się miksem ich materiału). I jest to dobry wstęp do twórczości tej kapeli, której muzyka jest jeszcze bardziej osadzona w kanonie gatunku. ANSIA jest mocniej ortodoksyjnym tworem funeral doom metalowej materii muzycznej, wzbogaconej o elementy ambient i black (hm, połączenie trochę przypominające polski HOLY DEATH). Różni się od MAJESTIC DOWNFALL tym, że brzmi bardziej podziemnie i gra jeszcze wolniej. Pochody perkusji w „Part I” i „Part III” są jednostajne aż do bólu, przygnębiają strasznie. Gardłowy growl chwilami brzmi nieludzko. W ostatniej kompozycji jest tak zdeformowany, że można go nazwać „martwym krzykiem” lub „głosem zza grobu”. Przybrudzone gitary, jakie stosuje ANSIA, wcale nie są odległe od blackowej estetyki. Zaś „Part II” to ambientowa miniaturka, znacznie odbiegająca od stylistyki całego wydawnictwa. Rosyjskiej wytwórni Solitude należy się uznanie za wyhaczenie dwóch ciekawych zespołów z innych krajów. Split MAJESTIC DOWNFALL / ANSIA jest kierowany do najwierniejszych fanów doom metalu opartego na sprawdzonych wzorcach, począwszy od MY DYING BRIDE…

Det er mye skrot som har kommet fra Russiske Solitude Productions i løpet av de siste par åra, og selskapet forsøker på ingen måte å gjøre skam på myten om russernes sans for rimelige løsninger. Spøk til side, så står nok antageligvis selskapet, med promotion og trykk for den desidert mest gjennomførte delen av denne utgivelsen. Det er ingenting av musikk som gjør meg like ille berørt som demo-doom, og disse to bandene er farlig på vei til å høres ut som de fortsatt er stasjonert på gutterommet.
Dette er unødvendig nok en split mellom et mexicansk enmanns-death/doom-band og et italiensk doom-band. Majestic Downfall fra Mexico består av Jacobo Cordova, og står muligens for det mest interessante av de to bandene representert her. De tre første innslagene, signert Majestic Downfall temmelig klassisk death / doom ala tidlig My Dying Bride / Anathema. Musikken er preget av ganske dårlig vokal, men tidvis ganske freske og melankolske riff som bringer tankene tilbake til nettopp de aller første skivene i denne sjangeren. Laber produksjon, mye skranglete synth tilsmusser dessverre det allerede ganske tannløse lydbildet, og til tross for brukbare innslag i blant, finner jeg ingen grunn overhodet til å ikke sette på noe My Dying Bride i stedet for dette.
Ansia prøver seg på en mellomting mellom Jesu og Esoteric, men treffer liksom verken det litt utsvevende og ritualistiske med Esoteric, eller det hypnotiske og messende med Jesu. Bandet har endel kult på gang, men med denne produksjonen kommer ikke detaljene i musikken verken godt nok, eller riktig nok fram. En detalj som det kan ødelegge hele opplevelsen, da et band som har låter på 14-15 minutter over de samme hypnotiske partiene er totalt avhengig av en helhetlig og gjennomført produksjon. Jeg vil gå så lang som å påstå at produksjonen i dette tilfellet utgjør halve opplevelsen. For kjedelig, rett og slett, jeg får bare lyst til å sette på Esoteric.

Bei dem hier vorliegenden Scheibchen handelt es sich um eine Split-CD des Solo-Projekts MAJESTIC DOWNFALL aus Mexico und den Italienern ANSIA, vertrieben von dem russischen Label „Solitude Productions“. Eine Kollaboration quer über den Erdball quasi, die jedoch leider keine Sternstunde der Musik hervorbringt.
Eröffnet wird die CD von den drei Songs des Mexikaners Jacobo Cordova, welcher wie erwähnt unter dem Titel MAJESTIC DOWNFALL operiert. Wenn mir dieses Wortspiel nun gestattet sei, findet in der ersten Hälfte der Split-CD ganz klar ein „Downfall“ statt, als majestätisch kann man diesen aber ganz sicher nicht bezeichnen. Geboten wird durchschnittlich produzierter Doom Metal im Stile der 90er Jahre, mit manchmal einsetzender synthetischer Geige, dem obligatorischen Piano, Death-Growls, ab und zu hinzustoßenden melodramatischen Sprech/Gesangsparts und leider nicht nur traurig klagenden, sondern meist eher schräg kreischenden Gitarren. Da ich nichts davon halte, Bonuspunkte für Bands zu geben, nur weil sie aus einem metallisch benachteiligten Land kommen, schafft es Herr Cordova mit seinem Beitrag zu diesem Doppel auf keinen weiteren Kommentar und lediglich 3.0 Punkte.
ANSIA beginnen ihren Part hingegen hoffnungsvoll mit sphärischen Piano- und Keyboardklängen, die nach den schrillen Audioattacken aus Mexiko fast wie Entspannung anmuten – doch leider hat der Gott des Doom Metal auch hier kein Einsehen und die Trommelfelle werden bald wieder stark strapaziert. Auch ANSIA haben sich dem eher klassischen Doom Metal verschrieben, versuchen aber durch ruhige Parts und sphärischen Keyboardeinsatz mehr Atmosphäre und Experimentelles in ihre Songs einfließen zu lassen. Dies gelingt ihnen auch ansatzweise gut, was jedoch nicht darüber hinwegtäuschen kann, dass die Metalparts schleppend unspektakulär sind, die Vocals (beabsichtigt?) nach im Kohlekeller aufgenommenem Schwarzmetall klingen und auch hier wieder vereinzelte Stellen (ebenfalls beabsichtigt?) anscheinend mit ungestimmten Instrumenten eingespielt wurden.
Besser als MAJESTIC DOWNFALL, aber leider immer noch nicht gut, sind mir die drei Songs der Italiener auch gerade mal 4.0 Punkte wert.
Summa Summarum und kurz gefasst handelt es sich hier also um eine Split-CD, die man selbst als Doom-Fan gerne links liegen lassen kann – Verpassen wird man nichts.

Zřejmě každý redaktor Fobiazinu si již prošel recenzí nějaké z ruských doom metalových kapel nebo alespoň počinu od ruského vydavatelství. Jen mě se to zatím vyhýbalo, ne však navěky, už je to tu. Split Majestic Downfall a Ansia nechť je mým očistcem.
Nemohu říci, že bych neměl rád doom metal, některá alba My Dying Bride nebo třeba Anathemy či Cathedral si občas poslechnu, ovšem vybírám si ty kusy, které mají hlavu a patu a hlavně u kterých neusnu. Obě recenzované sebranky právě toto postrádají. Nechápu, že je to v Rusku tak v kurzu, zřejmě se opijí vodkou a pak trudomyslně rozjímají nad svou špatnou ekonomickou situací a tak vzniká ruská láska k doom metalu, který by si zasloužil svou vlastní škatulku, kterou bych nazval třeba misery metal. Celé splitko je doslova narvané unylou pomalostí, kde ve snaze zachytit co nejlépe své utrpení, hudebníci totálně zapomínají, že jsou hudebníci a pomocí svých nástrojů spíš vzlykají (což by mohlo v doom metalu znít jako chvála, ale to by bylo chybné chápaní). A ve výsledku se tak tragedie, kterou kapely prožívají odráží do kvalit tohoto alba, protože to je totální tragedie. Troufám si tvrdit, že s tímto dílkem by měli problémy i zarytí fanoušci doom metalu.
Zvukově se nejedná o nic nepovedeného,
to bych jim křivdil, ale to je asi tak všechno. Musím se přiznat, že jsem měl co dělat abych to vůbec dokázal doposlouchat. První sebranka je z Mexika a popravdě byl jsem dost překvapen, že tak horkokrevný národ může hrát doom metal, ale zřejmě ano, nechme je v tom. V pomyslném souboji u mě vítězí spíš druhá Ansia z Itálie, u které alespoň tu a tam vykoukne osamělý pěkný nápad, který je však během několika opakování opět o ničem. Líbí se mi zde však časté používání různých netradičních zvuků a celkově zajímavější pojetí. Kdyby ze skladeb 10 minutových udělali 5x kratší věřím, že by to mohlo být zajímavé.
Škoda slov, tohle prostě buď chytne nějakého totálního maniaka anebo se to líbit nebude. Předpokládám, že až nový trend EMO (myslím tim nový trend přetvářky současných puberťáků, neplést s HC) zjistí, že existují kapely jako Ansia nebo Majestic Downfall, tak budou z těchto doomařů superhvězdy, ale do té doby nevim, nevim.

This album contains the first professional releases of these two bands (which are unavailable separately); Majestic Downfall, hailing from Mexico, and the Italian band Ansia, both bands released only a self-released demo each one before this Split Cd under Solitude Productions… The first half of this split album belong to the Mexican one man band Majestic Downfall, which delivers here three tracks of European styled Doom Metal highly influenced by the sound of early Paradise Lost and Katatonia that is to say, melodic and atmospheric riffs accompanied by mid paced drumming, deep growling vocals and some decent keyboard lines… pretty standard by still quite interesting. The vocal work of Jacobo is probably the strongest and most extreme element of this entire work delivering passion and obscurity in shape of infernal vocalizations mixed with occasional clean lines. The varied and rather rocking structures fill every composition reaching its highest point at the closing track of this half “A Tear of Understanding”, at this song Majestic Downfall unleashes its obscure potential, slightly detaching its sound from its influences and showing a little more innovative facet. This half is definitely a rather unoriginal but still enjoyable slab of Doom Metal… The second half of this album belongs to Ansia, this Italian trio formed by Ruben (drums), Steven (guitars) and Ethere (vocals, bass, synths) plays a highly atmospheric and ethereal blackish Doom Metal, where the incidental keyboard atmospheres mixed with some tenebrous, hypnotic guitar lines and a cadent, agonizing drumming are the responsible for a magnificent, grim and decadent feeling. The drowned and infernal vocalizations are the perfect complement for the whole atmosphere, contributing with a remarkable blackened and extreme touch. This whole work has a really remarkable paranormal feeling surrounding the three tracks this half contains; just listen to the fifth track “Part II”, the shortest track of this half, at this relatively short interlude the synthesizer’s oneiric sound harmonized by some quite dissonant guitar lines and some interesting sonic effects perfectly exemplifies the disturbing and obscure feeling of Ansia. I definitely prefer the Ansia’s half, even when Majestic Downfall certainly delivers here some quality music; the Italian band shows here a much more original and disturbing proposal… Anyway, this album, as a whole, is a very interesting piece of obscure and wintry music and is definitely a nice debut from these two raising bands… (AP)

Here’s an interesting release: a split CD between two bands that not only sound completely different, but they also originate from two completely different continents. Majestic Downfall hails from Mexico, whereas Ansia has its feet planted in Italy, making both bands worlds apart. Furthermore, oddly enough, the album is released through the Russian label Solitude Productions… talk about an international cooperation.
First up is the one-man army, Majestic Downfall. Jacobo (music and vocals) brings us 3 tracks of pure doom/death nature in the vain of old Anathema with a touch of Novembers Doom. What you can expect is heavy, melancholic and rather slow tracks that catch the true essence of doom to the point. Although the songs all follow the common recipe – heavy riffs, deep growls, sorrowful keyboard parts and slow paced drumming – and therefore do not present anything new to the world, however, the rather lengthy tracks (8 minutes on average) do not present a single dull moment either. In fact, the tracks are quite heavy and passionate, filled with mournful and bitter emotions. One minor setback would be the high-pitched keyboard melody in “A Birds Departure.” Not only does it slightly hurt the music, it is also quite annoying and hurtful to my ears as well. Yet, on “In an Ocean of Fears” (my favorite of the three tracks) it comes off rather pleasantly, giving the track an extra flavor. In any case, 3 tracks were more than enough to get oneself hooked on this majestic and awfully melancholic music. Brilliant!
Next up is Ansia with three tracks of pure funeral doom, not for the faint of heart. At over 30 minutes, the songs carry you into its painful melancholy, leaving you in a stage of utter despair. Don’t expect straightforward music. It takes time before these requiems of death set in and enwrap you in its breath-taking shadow. The tracks tend to progress slowly, where the chords seldom change – although I must say, the guitar work is very remarkable, especially for its heaviness. The drumming is also quite dreary (inducing a trance-like state), the keyboard melodies are exceptionally beautiful (take for example the intro and outro of “Part I”), the bass-lines enhances the cold and eerie emotions of the music and the painful screams sound as if they were coming from a funeral pyre. Indeed, this highly melancholic music is quite impressive! Ansia is definitely a band to look out for: with only 3 tracks, they have proven to possess the right ingredients.
Solitude Production has done an outstanding job in putting forth an extremely sorrowful doom album. Although both bands sound completely different, I highly praise both for their tragic music! It is heavy yet quite depressive; bitter yet beautiful. In short: a must-have for fans of beautiful, dark and emotional doom metal!

Das russische Label Solitude Productions hat in den letzten Monaten mit einigen interessanten Veröffentlichungen für die Anhänger von düsteren Klängen von sich reden gemacht.
Auf der vorliegenden Split-CD dürfen zwei weitere, mir bis dato unbekannte Bands für die Seelenpein der Zuhörerschaft sorgen.
Den Anfang macht das mexikanische Ein-Mann-Doomprojekt Majestic Downfall, welches das Kind von Multiinstrumentalist Jacobo ist. Nach 10 Jahren Mitgliedschaft bei der Death/Doom-Band Antiqua hat Jacobo beschlossen, der Welt seine eigene Vision der schweren Klänge zu präsentieren. Dabei bedient er sich einer Mischung aus klassischem Doom und Funeral Doom. Melodische Gitarren und teils recht eigenwillige Keyboardklänge sorgen für die düstere Stimmung. Der Gesang bewegt sich zwischen tiefen Growls und – vor allem bei dem zweiten und dritten Track – klagendem und leidendem Klargesang. Als Vergleich dürften Bands wie My Dying Bride oder auch neue Celtic Frost herhalten. Deren Klasse erreicht man zwar nicht ganz, gefallen kann die Mucke aber dennoch.
Noch einen Schritt weiter gehen Ansia. Gegenüber dem italienischen Projekt – Sänger Ether hat die Band mittlerweile verlassen – klingen Majestic Downfall schon fast fröhlich. Ansia klingen dunkel und böse. Der Gesang kriecht als unterirdisches Geröchel, hallend, irgendwie verzerrt direkt aus den Schlünden der Hölle aus den Boxen. Ein wehmütiges Pianointro und schwere Riffs, endlos wiederholt sorgen für eine dunkle Monotonie. Vor allem „Part I“ und „Part III“ bestechen durch eine brutale Heaviness, welche den Hörer jeweils über 13 Minuten in die Tiefe zieht während „Part II“ mit ruhigen Gitarren und dunklen Keyboard-Klangcollagen für eine düstere Stimmung sorgt. Einzig ein paar melodischere Gitarrenparts bei „Part III“ sorgen für eine dezente Aufhellung in dem endlosen Schwarz. Kaum zu glauben, dass man im heissblütigen Italien zu solcher Düstermucke fähig ist.
Wer dem kommenden Frühling mit all seiner erzwungenen Fröhlichkeit trotzen will, ist mit dieser Split-CD auf jeden Fall bestens bedient.

When it comes to Doom, then Solitude Productions are fast becoming the masters in discovering great new talent. Here they present a split cd which features, Majestic Downfall, a Mexican one man band with a passion for 90s UK Doom and an Italian outfit, Ansia, who favour a more sparse, somnolent approach.
A quick bit of research reveals that the Majestic Downfall side of the cd is actually the 2007, The First Abyss demo, but if you’ve not heard the band, or the cd before, then you are in for a treat. This is well played Doom, with Deathly vocals and is just about on the right side of sombre. It sure as hell isn’t about sunshine and flowers, but it is melodic
enough, and catchy enough to appeal to appeal to more open minded Metalheads, rather than just Doomheads. Just imagine a slightly happier version of My Dying Bride.
From the accessible Majestic Downfall, we move a few rungs down the gutter, to the despairing strains of Italy’s Ansia. Fucking hell, this is a miserable band. You’d think they lived in a war torn and ravaged land by the absolute despondency that they create, but no, they live in a sunny climate that’s full of beautiful women. But I guess something has really pissed them off, otherwise their music wouldn’t be so funereal. With three songs spread over 35 torturous minutes, this is a mightily depressing listen and not one for the faint-hearted.
Overall, this is a very interesting release, with two completely different bands from the Doom genre represented.

Om een tweetal nieuwe bands te presenteren komt Solitude Productions met een split van het Mexicaanse Majestic Downfall en het Italiaanse Ansia.
De one-man-band Majestic Downfall komt met vrij klassieke doom/death op de proppen waarbij de link met oude My Dying Bride vanzelfsprekend snel gelegd is. De man achter deze naam Jacobo, weet echter wel goed in het gehoor liggende riffs en zangpartijen ten gehore te brengen waardoor er geen sprake is van klakkeloos kopiëren. De productie van de drie tracks van Majestic Downfall is er echter nog één die meer thuishoort in de demoperiode van bands, te iele gitaren, te vlakke grunt. Geef deze band een goede, volle productie en je krijgt een mooi product waarbij hopelijk beter opvalt dat Majestic Downfall een verdomd lekker stukje doom fabriceert.
Het Italiaanse Ansia komt met een stukje origineler geluid, een avant-gardistische vorm van blackish funeral doom waarbij ik aan een wat tragere en vlakkere versie van Bethlehem zit te denken. Een tikkie meer funeral en een wat mindere extreme en lagere zang. Door een goed gebruik van sfeermomenten weet dit deel van deze split mij wat meer te boeien. Ansia laat een lekker griezelig sfeertje uit je speakers komen wat vooral tijdens de samples/keyboardmomenten erg plezierig is. Ik hoop meer van deze groep te gaan horen, maar aangezien zanger/bassist/toetsenist Ethere er onlangs mee gekapt is vraag ik me af of dat nog gaat gebeuren.

A split with two bands. Majestic Downfall is from Mexico and active since 2006 when the solo man Jacobo left the band Antiqua. Ansia is a band from Italia and active since 2006 due to the will of finding new sounds into the doom scene.
But Majestic Downfall is opening the split with 3 songs that are more accessible than the 3 of Ansia. Doom with a groove. Low singing vocals, piano, flute and melancholic guitars. And the second song “In An Ocean Of Fears” they continue what they started. But the last song of Majestic Downfall is more up tempo and sounding heavier that the previous two.
The songs of Ansia on the contruary are sounding darker and more obscure. Long soundscapes with tormenting voices in slow songs. Also a piano here and there. The second song has an sound effect like you are listening to a scratched vinyl album. Maybe it is not a real song but more of a long interlude. The 3rd part is real depressing and suffering as you can hear in the vocals and in the middle of the song you get a couple of minutes sound fx.
This split show two different bands and which one you like you have to decide for yourself.

Всегда интересно открывать для себя новые коллективы. Поэтому заимев сей сплит, обе команды на котором незнакомы, я получил хороший повод порадоваться! Что же мы имеем на этот раз: две команды из совсем “не-думовых” государств преподносят нам на удивление “думовое” творчество! Первыми звучат Majestic Downfall, моментально,бескомпромиссно и безоговорочно погружая сознаие в ностальгию… Ностальгия по славным 90-м, расцвет Doom Death, время когда слезы, меланхолия, грусть и осенние пейзажи еще не стали затасканными и избитыми темами. Романтика хорошего Doom”а, приправленная хрипучим, низким вокалом; минимальные клавиши и взрывы эмоций, аудиализированные в ритмах и риффах, соло-партиях и проигышах…
Если честно. с первого раза Majestic Downfall не так сильно впечатлили, но позже, когда отвлекаешься от переполняющих голову экспериментальных звучаний, понимаешь – такая музыка нужна и все так же важна!
Если первый коллектив – экскурс в классику, то итальнянцы Ansia напротив – яркий представитель современности. Експериментальный Doom, качественное и логически целостное творение из трех частей, ни на секунду не выпускающее слушателя из мира кошмара… Опустошение, мертвенно-серые пейзажи, душевнобольные персонажи, ядовитые небеса… Это лишь некоторые из ассоциаций! Музыкально – это весьма оригинальный funeral doom, к которому в анонсе еще приставили определение “Avantgarde”. Из авангарда дума сразу вспомнились Umbra Nihil и Aarni, но не думаю, что стоит смело сравнивать эти коллективы с Ansia. У итальянцев саунд более сырой, медленный, тяготеющий к первопроходцам funeral doom вроде Tyranny. Вокал надрывный и хриплый, местами даже истеричный. Плюс ко всему отличные сэмплы, время от времени всплывающие посреди всего этого мрака! Благодаря такому приему музыка коллектива приобретает оттенки атмосферности классического dark anbient. Хотя, это все математика. В реальности – слушаю эти три композиции вообще не думаешь о чем бы то ни было, просто погружаешься в этот туман, выпадаешь из мира.
Подводя итог, хочется отметить артворк, хорошо передающий атмосферу наверное более второго коллектива, но все же весьма и весьма уместный. Так же понравилась сама концепция (если она задумывалась) – резкий переход от классики doom`a к глубинам андеграунда.Все это позволяет поставить высший балл! 10/10

При том что сплит – это весьма неоднозначная форма издания, данный релиз оказался на поверку любопытен не столько происхождением записанных на нём групп (Мексика и Италия – это, согласитесь, для многих ново), сколько представленным ими материалом. В самом деле, принимая во внимание относительную молодость этих проектов и тот факт, что их багаж беден на полноформатные альбомы, нельзя не отметить их перспективность и, пожалуй, талант. Например, не каждая начинающая команда может похвастаться такими интересными композициями как те три, что представлены Якобо Кардова (Jacobo Cardova – единственный участник Majestic Downfall). Всего три дорожки, выполненные в духе лучших представителей жанра death-doom, но они действительно хороши: умеренно мелодично и тревожно звучит гитара, задающая основную тему композициям и поддерживаемая аккуратно прописанными, звучащими редко, но исключительно в тему, призрачными партиями клавишных. При этом, конечно, тяжесть никто не отменял. Хриплый, чуть глуховатый, гроул возвращает нас лет на 10-12 назад, во времена, когда стиль переживал свой расцвет, а эти мелодии, положенные на немного грязновато звучащие, но уверенные, авторитетные и увесистые риффы, могут вызвать лёгкую тоску по тем годам, когда на пики своей популярности находились ныне ушедшие в эксперименты doom-кумиры. Добротная работа, для demo даже слишком хорошая и, на мой взгляд, способная конкурировать с хрестоматийными дисками монстров сцены. Удивительно, но после пронзительной меланхолии Majestic Downfall совсем другой мир открывают перед нами Ansia: этакий horror doom, наполненный образами заброшенных хосписов и сырых подвалов, тех мест, где остались только уродливые призраки обитавших там прежде людей. Само звучание этого трио отдалённо напомнило финских авангардистов Umbra Nihil, но за счёт жуткого абсолютно нечеловеческого хриплого “унитазного” вокала итальянцам удалось добиться куда более мрачной и тяжёлой атмосферы. Из трёх композиций, которые они подготовили для релиза, все три – пропитаны зябким сумраком, болезненностью, духом заброшенности и уныния. Если Majestic Downfall отсылает нас к славным страницам истории doom’а, то Ansia – путёвка в самый настоящий андеграунд. Как следствие, мы получаем действительно удачное издание, включающее в себя записи двух совершенно разных, но одинаково интересных групп, чьё творчество вряд ли кого-то оставит равнодушным.

Две команды на одном диске… два малоизвестных имени из бесчисленного количества самых разных формаций в море андеграунда, где большинство так и остается прозябать на самом дне, и лишь немногим удается достичь поверхности. Вот обозреваемым командам удалось это сделать на данном split-CD. Специализация выпускающего лейбла может помочь вам составить представление об их музыке, но обо всем по порядку.
Первыми идут Majestic Downfall. Что же, на самом деле, ничего удивительного и оригинального. Стандартный doom-death, который можно описать примерно следующим образом: уже не «медленное рубилово» в духе Winter, но и не сентиментальные стенания с морем клавишных переливов и скрипок. Музыка проста как пять копеек, но, наверное, в этом и кроется ее некая привлекательность. Грустные и вместе с тем довольно увесистые риффы подкупают своей наивной прямолинейностью и, в целом, оставляют приятные впечатления. В конце концов, не всем же играть прогрессив и авангард-метал.
Ansia. А вот это уже поинтереснее, да…Сырой, болезненный звук гитар, дополняемый «атмосферными» клавишами и хрипящим вокалом, подобно тупой бритве, медленно режет вашу душу-плоть, одновременно вводя в состояние безразличия… к свету, к жизни, к счастью, не столь важно. Я даже не буду пытаться вогнать эту музыку в конкретные стилевые рамки, просто скажу, что здесь имеют место быть элементы funeral metal, doom-death & ambient. И, если попробовать мысленно превратить звуки инструментов в краски, то получившаяся картина в точности совпадет с обложкой диска: абстрактно и безумно.
Имеем весьма неплохой, ровный по настроению диск. Первую группу я бы оценил в 7 баллов из 10 (все-таки не хватает своих идей), а вторую – в 9 (за атмосферу). Средний результат говорит сам за себя.

Раньше ваш покорный слуга, бывало, удивлялся тому, насколько удачно различные латиноамериканские и южноамериканские коллективы воспроизводят классическое европейское дуумдэтовое звучание. Звучание, прародителями которого были Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride. Звучание, которое в самой Европе сегодня найти — очень постараться, а вот за океаном пожалуйста, там его в достатке. Тут вам и стейтсовые Novembers Doom и Fall Of Empyrean, австралийцы Paramaecium, бразильцы Aveс Tristesse и Mythological Cold Towers, масса чилийцев, аргентинцев и перуанцев. Классический и хрестоматийный doom death metal, по-дэтовому тяжёлый, по-дуумовому неторопливый, с низким гроулингом и размеренной ритм-секцией. Возможно, он немного мелодически скуповат, но именно в той степени, что и отцы стиля. Приятно признать, что мексиканец (да-да, это one man band!) не ударил в грязь лицом, и, без сомнений, заслуживает быть расположенным в перечисленном ряду на достойном месте.
Вторая часть сплита — от трёх итальянцев Ansia, которые не озабочены поддержанием статуса старого европейского дуумдэтового звучания, и по заверениям выпускающего значка, ищущим «новых звучаний в doom metal». Как хотите, но ваш покорный слуга ничего нового в их материале не услышал, что, впрочем, ничуть не умаляет его достоинств. Максимально замедленный (но не funeral) doom metal, тягучий и мрачноватый, протяжный и атмосферный, несущий на себе отпечаток Алессио Фагрелли (клавишник Deinonichus), которому было доверено сведение, мастеринг и клавишные партии (кстати, великолепные и по-настоящему красивые) на одном из треков. Возможно, вторая часть сплита чуть проигрывает первой по динамике и музыкальной насыщенности, но релиз в целом оцениваю на «хорошо» и смело рекомендую всем ищущим новые имена в doom metal.
