Elements of Disorder has the aspects of a good doom/death album: heavy guitar tones, good drums, and proper harsh vocals (although the few instances of clean male, kinda gothy vocals aren’t exactly great). The instruments and performances sound good, but the problem is the songs leave much to be desired. Plainly, Elements of Disorder is an album of dull songs with bland music that connects in an uninteresting way. Listening to the music found here is never unpleasant, but if your intent is active listening enjoyment, getting through the entire album is unlikely.

Het album Elements Of Disorder telt 8 nummers met een totale speelduur van 48 minuten. Na het veelbelovende intro Sacrifice gaat het album dan van start met het nummer Safety dat ook al op de demo was te horen uit 2007. Een prima openingsnummer maar ook de daaropvolgende As You Die is prachtig met een supermooi piano intro. Muzikaal zit het album prima in orde. Een strakke productie waarbij alle instrumenten genoeg plek krijgen in de muziek met de perfecte doom sfeer die we ook kennen uit bijvoorbeeld My Dying Bride en Type O Negative. Toch is het geen directe kloon van dit soort bands. Grunting en cleane zanglijnen worden prima afgewisseld, al wil ik wel als kanttekening geven dat de cleane vocalen wel een beetje aan de zwakke kant zijn. Het hoort zeer fragiel en breekbaar aan, over de gruntpartijen valt niks aan te merken deze zijn zeer sterk te noemen. Hoogtepunten van het album zijn toch wel As You Die, Centuries Of Men en Doomed. Het artwork ademt precies de sfeer wat de muziek op Elements Of Disorder brengt. Het bandlogo is minder geslaagd te noemen deze is bijna onleesbaar te noemen.
Conclusie:
Wedding In Hades levert met Elements Of Disorder een prima eerste full length album af die mede door de productie muzikaal subliem te noemen is. Grootste negatieve kanttekening is dat de cleane vocalen gewoon te breekbaar zijn. Liefhebbers van Katatonia en My Dying Bride zullen veel plezier hebben aan dit album en zouden deze cd eens moeten luisteren. Ik ben zeer benieuwd wat we nog meer gaan horen van deze band

Soyons honnête, il est bien connu que les plus belles perles du Metal nous arrivent tout droit de pays nordiques tels que la Finlande et la Norvège pour ne pas en faire une pénible énumération. Difficile, donc, pour des français, de faire leurs preuves surtout quand il s’agit d’un exercice stylistique aussi fastidieux qu’est le Doom/Death/Gothic.
C’est en effet un genre peu emprunté par les métalleux de l’hexagone, à tort peut être, quand on se penche sur Elements Of Disorder de WEDDING IN HADES, premier album de nos frenchies, sans excès de zèle et en toute modestie.
Une carrière qui démarre en 2006 à St-Brieuc, tout comme l’intro « Sacrifice », en plantant tout de suite le décor. Tendez l’oreille, on entend presque leurs voix crier dans une certaine brume gothique : on fait du sombre, du lourd (au sens noble du terme), du guttural, du mélo. Ces deux minutes auraient pu teinter d’angoisse un bon film d’épouvante. Force est de constater qu’ils sont près à se mesurer aux pointures du genre, MY DYING BRIDE, NOX AUREA, etc.
Gardant l’excellente recette de l’obscur, « Safety » s’engage avec une cadence Black Metal, nous proposant ensuite une pesanteur menaçante grâce au jeu de Damien Simon alias Sorgen (guitare), enveloppant juste comme il faut le chant possédé de Stéphane Toutain (chant-basse).
Olivier Raoult (claviers) porte magnifiquement certaines intros : « Sacrifice », « As You Die », morceau soutenu en milieu de composition par la batterie féroce de Vincent Lahaye, et « A Dark Sea ».
« Widow » dont les premiers arpèges auraient put être calqué sur le fameux « Come As You Are » de NIRVANA, déverse une mélodie plus éthérée mais retenue comme contenant une certaine rage.
Cette dernière finit par nous péter à la tronche avec le fastueux « A Dark Sea » qui résonne comme une croisade. Tout y est parfaitement dominé, installant immédiatement une ambiance épique et héroïque.
Les héros dans cette histoire c’est bien eux, WEEDING IN HADES, jeunes français ayant créés de leurs petites mains novices, une bien belle première œuvre, qui dans son ensemble transpire l’habileté et la technicité. Tout ça sans compter sur les nombreuses péripéties qui auraient pût les contraindre à ne jamais donner naissance à ce bébé. Même si cela risquait de choquer l’opinion publique, je suis pour une fois fière d’être française, et de pouvoir brandir le drapeau tricolore au nez de toutes ces pointures arctiques, aussi douées soient-elles.

Per chi avesse mai avuto preconcetti sui francesi del tipo “fanno un buon vino”, “hanno avuto Platinì e Zidane” ecc, ci si dovrà ricredere. Abbiamo ascoltato i Wedding In Hades e devo dire che ci hanno sorpreso parecchio e piacevolmente. Questi 4 ragazzi arrivano dalla Francia più precisamente da Saint–Brieuc (Bretagna). Con “Elements Of Disorder” registrato per la BadMoodMan Music, i nostri giungono al loro primo ufficiale full lenght. Il cd comprende 8 tracce e immediatamente stupisce per l’aria innovativa che ci consente di respirare: non è il tipico cd di death o gothic metal, sorprende infatti per il suo discostarsi dalla furia canonica che purtroppo martirizza molto spesso questo genere. Di certo se si vuole ascoltare qualcosa di violento, banale e brutale, decisamente questa release non farà per voi. “Elements Of Disorder” è un disco innovativo, le linee di chitarra suonano alle mie orecchie come nuove, fresche e ricercate. Di certo quel che emerge dall’ascolto di questa prima uscita, è che i ragazzi hanno osato e a nostro parere hanno fatto bene. La track list è ben organizzata e il cd scorre via piacevolmente senza alcun modo stordire l’ascoltatore (cosa da non sottovalutare). Nota interessante da rilevare, a parte la bravura dei musicisti che rendono l’album piacevole all’ascolto è la voce, voce che viene utilizzata sia nel modo oscuro del gothic, che col growling tipico del death, senza disdegnare l’utilizzo di clean vocals. Questa miscela rende questo lavoro un vero, buon punto d’inizio per questi quattro ragazzi transalpini. Se si dovesse trovare un difetto all’album (se poi di difetto vogliamo parlare), bisogna dire che purtroppo le canzoni risultano talvolta alquanto lunghe, ma per fortuna, grazie all’ottima miscela di riffs, con parti alternate tra momenti veloci e violente a momenti più tranquilli e quasi rilassanti, con la voce che si dipana tra grugniti violenti e brutali, per poi diventare quasi dolce, mostra la spiccata disinvoltura dei Wedding in Hades nella ricercatezza di una propria definita identità. Nel suo complesso, questo debut merita di essere ascoltato (e acquistato), per cogliere la ventata di freschezza e di originalità che esso porta con sé. Da sottolineare ancora una volta, la voglia di osare del combo d’oltralpe, che non si è rinchiuso nei limiti del genere anzi, ci ha voluto far conoscere, con molto coraggio, “il proprio mondo”. Da parte mia posso solo dire alla fine “Avanti Galletti “, penso che dei Wedding In Hades sentiremo parlare ancora, in bocca al lupo ragazzi, andate forte…

I’ve listened to this album multiple times before starting to write this review and to be honest I still don’t know if I like it or if I don’t, but there is a certain fact, I hate the cover artwork, the pictures look like bad, very bad photocopied pics from the beginnings of xerox… But it’s their choice, who can argue with that? Musically speaking Wedding In Hades plays a combination of Gothic metal, Doom Metal and even some Death Metal inserts here and there, and it gave me the impression their biggest influences are Paradise Lost and Type Of Negative, but that mostly because of the vocalist. The music is mostly mid-tempo, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who’s not a regular listener of Gothic Doom because most of the time it gives the feeling this is just a prelude to the real music and keeps you waiting and waiting. Also most of the time the music is too simplistic for this genre, for nowadays. I would lean more on the “don’t like it” side though…

Wedding in Hades es una formación procedente de Francia que se estrena formalmente (maqueta previa aparte) con este Elements of disorder. Como se puede deducir por el nombre del grupo, o por las fotos de parajes solitarios a imitación de los antiguos daguerrotipos, lo que les va es el doom metal depresivo y melancólico. En particular parecen sentirse atraídos por el clásico trío británico de siempre: Paradise Lost, Anathema y en especial My Dying Bride. Que no planteen nada nuevo no supone un gran problema para un seguidor del género, ya que hacen un papel bastante digno incluso dentro de sus limitaciones.
A fin de cuentas, parecen sentirse muy identificados con la tradición del doom británico como para ponerse a buscar en otros sitios. Puede que tengan pequeños arreones de agresividad, igual cuando sus mentores todavía tomaban el death metal como punto de partida. Pero les atrae más la parte más sentimental y evocadora del estilo, aproximándose mucho al gótico. Se percibe en las melodías insinuantes que buscan las guitarras, o en algunos arpegios de connotaciones nostálgicas. En ocasiones añaden teclados para desarrollar atmósferas o incorporar arreglos de tintes románticos, si bien suelen permanecer en un discreto segundo plano el resto del tiempo. El bajo tiene algo más de presencia, e incluso se atreve a tomar las riendas en ciertos momentos muy señaladas. Y obviamente las voces se reservan un espacio importante, ya sea en los fragmentos melódicos o adoptado un peculiar sonido gutural (más seco que cavernoso).
Predomina por tanto el acabado lúgubre y poético en la música de estos franceses. Tal vez ese sea el motivo de que no le hayan sacado más fuerza a las partes presuntamente más impulsivas. Por ejemplo, “As you die” tiene un riff que recuerda a Darkthrone y en “A dark sea” parece que hay un conato de blast beat, pero ninguno de esos recursos transmite demasiada contundencia. Ni la distorsión tiene peso, ni la batería suena del todo natural, y ni siquiera a ellos mismos se les nota muy convencidos en esos momentos. Se sienten más cómodos en pasajes lánguidos a lo Katatonia, o con algún que otro guiño a Moonspell, o sencillamente en un tono más suave, monótono y tranquilo para tardes lluviosas de otoño.
No están mal, desde luego que no, aunque ni de lejos se acerquen a lo que aportan otras bandas de su palo con más rodaje y ambición. Si alguien le apasiona mucho My Dying Bride, echa de menos a The Blood Divine o a los viejos The Gathering y disfruta con los momentos más góticos de Cradle of Filth, podrá encontrarle el punto a Elements of disorder. Una escucha agradable, aunque solo sea para cambiar de tercio de vez en cuando, y a pesar de que sus casi cincuenta minutos se hagan un poquito largos.

Wedding in Hades – Elements of Disorder. We all do it. Come on, you know you want to pull out Midian but the fanboys keep you at bay as they loom in the doorway of the mall. For those of us afraid to admit we listen to Cradle of Filth, we can pop this sucker in and pretend we never heard of ‘em. Wedding in Hades play a symphonic, gothic style of metal. The guitars slowly bury you in snow, the bass has a slightly-distorted twang like a muscle about to snap, and the singing ranges from throat-cutting roars to operatic. The symphonic elements are particularly well-written, but it’s not really anything you haven’t heard before. The only thing really going for it is its obscurity. If you can’t bring yourself to don corpse paint anymore, let Elements of disorder give you some solace with a total illegible band logo to boot.

Wedding in Hades is a French four-piece that started out in 2006. After the release of their first self-titled demo, they signed with “BadMoodMan Music” that delivered their full-length album, “Elements of Disorder”, into the light of the day. The release starts out slowly with an Ambient intro that later evolves into a four note progression that sounds almost like My Dying Bride, which forms a nice first impression. The second track starts out with the only real downside of this album: it delivers such an overly grim melody that it almost feels like a B-horror movie soundtrack, which completely ruins the intro’s initial, good impression. Luckily, this misstep only happens in the first quarter of the album, and such mistakes weren’t repeated later in the release.
“As you Die” fades in with a nice piano/synth melody as an introduction to a really versatile song incorporating blast-beat drumming, synthesizers and a bass solo into their regular sound. The fourth track follows the same structure – synth intro and dynamic arrangement of instrumentation. “Widow” starts with a bass intro that really shows the importance of bass guitar in this band. It’s not hidden in the mix, and goes hand-in-hand with the guitars. “Doomed” is probably the most Death/Doom Metal sounding song on the album featuring slow riffs that change into thrashing drumming, pipe organ and dynamic melodies. The final track, “The Wise”, showcases everything that’s best on this album, mainly the amazing vocals ranging from clean singing to melodic growling similar to Carl McCoy’s of Fields of the Nephilim style and gorgeous electric and bass guitar work, with some keyboard spice on top.
Whilst Wedding in Hades’ debut has cons on which it can improve, it still managed to hit a great impact, and I’ll surely be waiting for their upcoming releases.

Французские молодцы оказывается не все поголовно гении и экспериментаторы, что, однако не мешает им быть хорошими музыкантам и композиторами. А что до работы на известных всему металическому миру приемах, так кто сейчас не использует что-то уже сыгранное десятком лет ранее – ведь стилей не так уж и много, слов и того меньше, а тематик вообще по пальцам… Кому было не лень уже до меня сравнили музыку команды в основном с My Dying Bride (совершенно очевидно), с Katatonia (не понятно каким место приросшая здесь), а я вот, к общей картине добавлю ранний и поздний Moonspell, на который так похожи здесь композиции с чистым вокалом.
“А что, тут есть еще и другой вокал?”, – недоуменно спросите вы, прочитав пресс-релиз – “Это же ведь gothic metal!”. На что я вам посоветую сначала послушать диск, после чего, собранные в один кулак, пусть и с последовательным расположением элементы doom metal, gothic metal и black metal сформируют загадочное, получающееся в непонятных пропорциях и комбинациях, из неясных источников и симбиозов dark metal. Был бы альбом чуть сырее, не избежать бы ему сравнений с каким-нибудь Bethlehem. А так песни весьма разнородны: начиная от величественно безрадостных думовых “Doomed” (простите за тавтологию) и “As We Die”, чистоголосых проникновенных с придыханием “Safety”, “Widow”, а приблекованная ярость звучит на “A Dark Sea” одновременно имеющей общность (прямую до некоторого неблаговидного срисовывания впрямую даже по названию) с коалицией тем с “The Angel And The Dark River” и Moonspell. Медленные тяжелые части композиций логично переходят в мрачные тяжелые зарубы риффов и бласт-бита, сделанные с тщанием, но без глубокого воображения – с англичанами здесь, к сожалению, французам не тягаться – чем не сильно огорчают. А потом нас вновь радуют лирическим моментом. Насколько лирично содержание можно вполне поспорить, ведь тематика композиций, стандартно посвященных умершим близким людям, покинутым любовям и прочим духовным трагедиям, стремятся в какие-то кровавые и убийственные стороны, а обложка первого миниальбом, и вовсе пугает, в отличие от зеленоватого бурелома (через прибор ночного видения?) в ночной тиши.
Хорошего среднего уровня тоже дорогого стоит добиться, тем более, прямо с пылу с жару, на первом же полноразмерном диске. Именно этого, со значительными заимствованиями от корифеев жанра, сложившимися в некоторой степени индивидуальную мозаику, добилась группа Wedding In Hades, пролезшая на локальный российский лейбл. Кажется, что французам следует сделать еще пару шагов, а вот в сторону большей выраженности каких-то особенных черт (и последующим за этим контрактом, например, с Season Of Mist) или в сторону лучшего восприятия массами (с заплывом на Prophecy или Napalm Records): это покажет время.

Band francese che trova casa nell’ex Unione Sovietica grazie all’interesse della BadMoonMan ed alla prese con il disco d’esordio. ‘Elements Of Disorder’, come da copione, sfoggia un gothic-doom metal che in larga parte si rifà agli stilemi del genere, quindi Paradise Lost e compari. Qualche puntata verso l’estremo non sposta di una virgola il livello della proposta e delle idee che lo compongono, anche se di fondo si può affermare che il disco non dispiace. Si derivativo, ma con personalità. Così il quartetto si lancia in brani con suoni robusti e ritmiche rallentate, arricchiti da strati sinfonici che pompano la romantica decadenza che si respira dalla prima all’ultima traccia. “As You Die”, non ci vuole molto a capire da chi ispirata, è forse il brano migliore del lotto che racchiude tutte le virtù che i Wedding In Hades coltivano con passione. E seppur le origini della loro proposta ha trascorsi ben marcati, riescono senza faticare tanto a fare emergere qualità e sostanza e ben al di sopra di difetti e limiti. Quindi – con pochi dubbi – primo tiro, primo centro.
