post metal, Slow Burn Records

A solid release from a remarkably variegated band from St. Petersburg whose music, being so diverse, lets you feel the influence of different genres and epochs. Prehistoric avant-garde. The attempt to combine heaviness and folkish fairytaleness ended up successfully. The guys avoided the shallowness that so often accompanies such attempts.

death doom metal, Solitude Productions
"Where My Demise Dwells", an album by the Moscow duo Bewailer, contains seven pieces for the survival of human soul within the depths of its own darkness. The key theme of the tracks is how the lyrical hero slowly goes from fierce antagonism against the hopelessness of his destiny to cold numbness, in which he can only contemplate of own decay and indifference of the whole creation. Nevertheless, a bleak glimmer of hope appears near the end of the album, a subtle glow leading to regeneration (or final demise). Musically this album combines traditional Death-Doom melodies and vocal techniques with dismal atmosphere of the bottomless gloom, more common for the Funeral Doom sub-genre. Besides the usual rhythm, bass and lead guitars and drums, one may expect steady use of piano, synth pads and acoustic guitars. The vocal techniques include shrieks and low-pitched growls, with some addition of female clean vocals. Some of the bands that inspired Bewailer are Saturnus, My Dying Bride, Mourning Beloveth, Evoken, Voidhaven and Dolorian.

post metal, Slow Burn Records
Dynamic French duo ROSTRES present their first full length album ‘Les Corps Flottants’, a journey through turgid sludge, post-rock and shoegaze. Think of a slowed down Pelican or speed up Neurosis and you will have the right idea. These guys create huge atmosphere through pure riffage and towering, crashing drums alone. The album is fully instrumental as is often the case in this genre but that is not to it’s detriment, the dynamics of the performance and at times lyrical lead guitar/synth/even string patterns wandering back and forth across the riff gives the ear everything it could want. This is an exceptional ‘post’ album with a variety of sounds to both punish and reward the listener! The primary tone here can be defined as ‘BIG’. These are towering, monumental riffs supported by thunderous drums and given a sense of space with glittering effect drenched noise, juxtaposed against swathes of open ground, breathing and building room until the next mountain of noise for the listener to climb.

melodic death doom metal, BadMoodMan Music
Maze of Feelings is an unusual band from Poland, which has two vocalists in the line-up, both from Russia, and they both have already become a significant part of the Russian dark scene. Andrey Karpukhin (Mare Infinitum, Abstract Spirit, Comatose Vigil) and Ivan Guskov (Mare Infinitum) are responsible for the variety of voices ranging from scream and growl to narrative and epic clean vocals that saturate music, which is an organic composition of doom death metal and dark metal. The harsh and heavy compositions of this debut album by Maze of Feelings, appearing quite straightforward at first glance, will immediately reveal many expressed emotions. Band was created by Marcin Warzyński & Krzysztof Wieczerzycki and also includes Szymon Grodzki (Gnida, Sammath Naur, Invent-Sound Studio) and one of the best metal drummer Dariusz "Daray" Brzozowski (Dimmu Borgir, Vesania, ex-Vader).

atmospheric death doom metal, Solitude Productions
The second album by Soijl, a project founded by the Swedish multi-instrumentalist Matthias Svensson (Saturnus, Istapp, Vanmakt, Nidrike). Continuing the development of figurative ideas and the musical component of the debut work, "As The Sun Sets On Life", at the same time, is a new stage for the band. Gloomy, atmospheric doom death metal compositions with a dense sound and excellent performance are what Soijl is loved for, and this is exactly what the musicians offer in their new work, in a more spectacular form this time. The famous designer and photographer Roman Kamin (Wine From Tears, Mare Infinitum, Aut Mori) have been again responsible for the visual part of the album crafting a magnificent 12-page booklet.

avantgarde funeral doom, Solitude Productions
The third full-length album by a Russian band continues to study the problems of insanity of modern society and apocalyptic expectations which were embodied both in the general mood of the album and its lyrics, as well as in in its musical part: tempo variations, passages from meditation to fury, from canonic funeral doom metal to avantgarde psychedelic experiments. And again Septic Mind amazes the fans of heavy, dark and nonstandard music.

dark death doom metal, BadMoodMan Music
The second full-length album by Shallow Rivers follows the stylistics of the debut album "Nihil Euphoria" demonstrating enhanced technical and compositional abilities of musicians. Extreme and harsh, but atmospheric and melodic music is based on different styles with prevailing doom death metal resulting in sudden transitions from low to up tempo and vice versa. The album requires a thoughtful listening with leafing through the booklet. You can return to it again and again as to a good book, because it has Henry Longfellow"s "The Wreck of the Hesperus" as a basis of concept. Musicians discover the theme of obsession of poets, writers, artists and creative people in general. The concept is based on the idea that their talent is driven by a kind of "innocent insanity." It gives them inspiration, but eventually turns them into madmen. The lead ghost is an obsession, a nagging sense of foreboding. Attempts to understand it end up with madness.

melancholic metal, BadMoodMan Music
The new work of the Moscow quartet The Morningside, with all recognizable features of the band, demonstrates the brand new facets of their creativity. This concerns a material itself which is much more aggressive than ever, and how the material is presented to the listener. The arrangements , the sound and the lyrics of the album, and even design the booklet say that Letters From The Empty Towns is not an evident successor to any of the previous works of the group. Album is devoted to the theme of fragmentation, isolation and loneliness, perceived by a metropolis inhabitant, offers a palette of moods: from rage, suicidal despair and black humor to light sadness with a touch of escapism typical for the band works. Starting a voyage from the first to the final, ninth track, you, on the one hand, constantly feel like being inside a submarine called The Morningside, with boards painted in the color of autumn leaves. On the other hand, you understand that this boat can run dangerously close to the territorial waters controlled by the monsters of thrash / death metal, then quietly slip under the keels of the mossy sailing frigates, whose saloons sound like acoustic versions of Pink Floyd with interludes of lute music of the XVII century. In short, this album is equally recommended to old group fans, and those who choose it for the first acquaintance with the work of The Morningside.

melodic death doom, Solitude Productions
Past members of Ocean of Sorrow are now back with a new project of their own - Revelations of Rain! This melodic death-doom is very close to both old-school bands like My Dying Bride and new-wave European doom-death (Swallow the Sun, Mourning Beloveth). The lyrics, which are written in Russian have a very deep sense and greatly combine with heavy but melodic music of the band that continues the very best traditions of death-doom school.

death doom metal, Solitude Productions
If you walk into the fenlands at sunset, leaving the last house at your back, you will follow a road that slowly dwindles to a footpath as the sky darkens and the shadows lengthen. With a cutting wind always in your face, bringing tears to your eyes, you’ll reach a place where the path finally peters out to nothing. There is no light but the stars and the horizon is as empty and distant as it was many cold miles ago. The only discernible features of this desolate landscape are the gnarled, stunted, wind sculpted trees that skulk like warped spiders, poised to attack when you turn your back. It’s a place with no name but loneliness, where all the sorrows in the world gather to cry their laments to the endless sky; and the sound of their song is the sound of Consecration... Blending the decaying grandeur of epic doom, with the visceral power of primal death and the taste of memories so sharply poignant they draw blood and tears in equal measure, Consecration have summoned into being Fragilium - a towering album that stands like a pitch black monolith against the night sky, casting shadows so deep they swallow the darkness. The currents of aching melancholy that sweep through these songs are so deeply powerful that they threaten to consume the unwary listener. The guitar melodies sing like sirens to the lost while the obsidian riffs devastate all that stand in the path of their inexorable, measured progress. Mastered to perfection by Markus Stock of The Vision Bleak and Empyrium, whose deft touch has polished the twilight sounds of Ahab, Winterfylleth and Secrets Of The Moon, Fragilium walks paths of unprecedented musical and emotional depth.

neoclassical doom death metal, Solitude Productions
After many years of silence Intaglio has released a new full-length album called “II”. The album can be described as a "doom opera" and will not only amaze old fans of the band, but should also interest new listeners with the contributions Intaglio has made to the development of the style.
A large form was used on "II", which is exceedingly rare in metal and rock music. Only live instruments were used in the recording, including classical ones such as cello and upright bass, and professional vocalists with voices varying from basso profundo to soprano have created a unique palette of sounds. The album is a conceptual work with compositions and lyrics united as a single large piece, and for the full experience should be listened to from beginning to end in order to completely immerse the listener into its atmosphere.
"II" was recorded and mixed at Slow Burn Studio (When Nothing Remains, Woe Unto Me), was mastered by Mika Jussila (Shape Of Despair, Isole, Unholy, Moonspell) at the legendary Finnvox studio in Finland, and includes stunning cover art crafted by the Polish artist Mariusz Lewandowski (Bell Witch, Atramentus) and designed to highlight and complement the album's unique music. Both massive and sophisticated Intaglio’s creation is a brand new and exciting take on the doom death genre.
