Badly Drawn Boy"s new album is part of a trilogy called It"s What I"m Thinking and the subheading of the first album is Photographing Snowflakes. "I was having a drink one night with some friends and someone said "What do you think is the hardest job ever?"" explains Gough, "and to me it"s got to be photographing snowflakes. lt"s impossible. People do it but l"ve no idea how they do it." lt"s also an analogy for what Gough wants to achieve with this trilogy, grabbing those moments or songs that come from nowhere and capturing the moment. Photographing snowflakes. Penning the soundtrack to last year"s Caroline Aheme film The Fattest Man in Britain sparked a period of unprecedented creativity for Gough, resulting in a wealth of new material. Invigorated and inspired by the approach of artists like mid-period Bob Dylan and Neil Young, who would go into the studio to record an album when the songs were flowing, rather than when the music industry powers that be dictated to them, Gough decided the best way to capture this surge and give the songs the exposure they deserved was to release a trilogy of albums. "I"ve got such a wealth of ideas I want to work on," explains Gough. "And intrinsically, as a creative person, you don"t want to switch off the flow of ideas, because that"s what keeps you ticking."

Backed by a rhythm section comprised of marching-band-nerds-packing heat in the form of marimbas, bells, timpani and the rest of the percussion auxiliary, Tub Ring"s got an energy akin to that of Oingo Boingo"s playful stature. Amidst the backbone are a guitarist and keyboardist, busily lilting and lacing the songs together as if Josh Homme had ventured towards Radiohead"s brainy textures. Fronted by a singer ruminating over the decrees of science and the human condition, and delivered anywhere between crooning and barking orders like Jello Biafra still had a pulpit from which to preach...it"s no wonder that one listen to Tub Ring alerts the ears and brains to something deeper, something more than the atypical rock agenda. To be completely alone in a foreign land with an internal conflict, only being able to talk with the moon, with Kuu. She is the one who can hear your laments and hug you when everything is lost. There exists always an exit.Based in his experiences in Finland in 1999, Kuu wrote these poems. Later he decided to transform them into music in 2001. He talked with Bitxo, a friend from Barcelona, gave him the poems and explained him his experiences. So, Bitxo recorded electro-acoustic basis and Kuu went to Barcelona to record the voices. Finally the tracks were sent to Sheffield where Matt Howden includes a violin line to some of them. An amazing trip trought different geographies .. you can say its dark folk, ambient, electronic, its just KUU !!
