Das ukrainische Ein-Mann-Projekt RAVENTALE ist verlässlich wie ein Uhrwerk und veröffentlicht Alben im Jahresabstand. „Bringer Of Heartsore“ ist das fünfte Album, und abgesehen vom dezent nervenden Drum-Computer auf dem Drittwerk „Mortal Aspirations“ kann man Herrn Astaroth kontinuierliche Verbesserung bescheinigen. Der synthetische Beat-Kollege ist zwar nach wie vor mit von der Partie, klingt inzwischen aber etwas organischer und besser in den Gesamt-Sound gemischt. RAVENTALE fühlt sich im Midtempo-Bereich ausgesprochen wohl, wechselt im Opener ‚Anything In Void‘ und ‚These Days Of Sorrow‘ aber auch mal kurzzeitig in schwarzmetallische Rasanz. Ansonsten dominiert oft getragene Epik, der eine melancholische Stimmung zugrunde liegt. Die stets präsenten Keyboards sind wirkungsvoll eingewoben und drängen sich nicht zu sehr in den Vordergrund, sondern bilden eine Einheit mit dem abwechslungsreichen Riffing, das auch gern mal eine progressive Note erhält, und dem in eher tieferer Stimmlage keifenden Gesang Astaroths. Details wie die atmosphärisch punktgenau gesetzten Soli in ‚Twilight, The Vernal Dusk‘ und am Ende von ‚Breathing The Scent Of Death‘ runden den Gesamteindruck positiv ab. Nach dem von Wellenrauschen begleiteten Semi-Akustikstück ‚Prologue: Sailing To Further‘ geht RAVENTALE in ‚The Last Afterglow Burned‘ dann mal richtig aufs Gas, um wiederholt das Tempo zurückzunehmen und Raum für düstere Interludien zu schaffen. An Letztere knüpft das Instrumental ‚Detachment And Solitude‘ an, das sowohl mit akustischem Zwischenstück als auch einer Solo-Melodie im Abgang punkten kann. ‚Epilogue – Alone With Heartsore‘ beschließt „Bringer Of Heartsore“ rein akustisch. Astaroth belegt mit „Bringer Of Heartsore“, dass Kritikpunkte, an denen die Vorgänger mitunter krankten, der Vergangenheit angehören, und dass er als Musiker hörbar gereift ist. Textlich orientiert sich RAVENTALE diesmal am russischen Dichter Alexander Blok, ein Vertreter des Silbernen Zeitalters, dessen Verse dem Albumkonzept mehr Tiefe verleihen sollen. Visuell zeigt er sich ebenso heimatverbunden, indem er Fragmente von Bildern der Maler Aivasovsky and Levitan ins Booklet integriert, die gut mit dem melancholischem Black Metal RAVENTALEs harmonieren.

Die ukrainische Ein-Mann-Band RAVENTALE beehrt uns auch 2011 wieder mit einem neuen Release. Das vorliegende Machwerk "Bringer Of Heartsore" ist der bereits fünfte Longplayer und bietet wieder einmal düsteren doomigen Black Metal dessen Herkunft man erahnen könnte. Die Scheibe klingt nämlich größtenteils wie eine Mischung aus DRUDKH und alten SEMARGL mit Melodic Metal und Prog-Rock Einschlag. Die ersten beiden Songs "Anything is Void" und "Twilight, the vernal Dusk" sind mit über 7 Minuten etwas zu lang geworden und können die Spannung leider nicht über ihre gesamte Spielzeit aufrecht erhalten. Anders wird es ab Track 3, "These Days of Sorrow" ist äußerst progressiv ausgefallen und das steht dem RAVENTALE Sound sehr gut. Danach wird wieder mehr auf Atmosphäre gesetzt und die Songs sind zudem etwas gestraffter. Durch eingestreute Disharmonie, den bereits angesprochenen Prog-Rock Elementen und vereinzelten Blastbeats, bleiben die Kompositionen immer interessant ohne aber auf das schwere, düstere und melancholische Gefühl verzichten zu müssen. Trotzdem dürften die Songs insgesamt etwas kompakter und eingängiger sein. "Bringer of Heartsore" stellt aber für einen einzigen Musiker eine beachtliche Leistung dar. Knappe 8 Punkte verteile ich hier...

Anspieltipps: "These Days of Sorrow" und das gediegene "Detachment and Solitude".

Z moich obserwacji wynika, że wśród muzyków jest grupa takich, co mogą przez lata grać podobne dźwięki i jest im z tym dobrze. Są też i tacy, co poszukują, przebierają pośród tych istniejących stylistyk i zmieniają je niczym te przysłowiowe rękawiczki. Najmniej jest oczywiście tych genialnych, co sami tworzą coś, z czego później skwapliwie korzystają inni. Do której z tych grup zaliczyć RAVENTALE? Nie znam wczesnych płyt tego jednoosobowego projektu, ale dwie poprzednie oraz tę najnowszą, piątą już tak i mogę śmiało napisać o nieśmiałej ewolucji od hipnotycznego grania wywodzącego się w prostej linii od BURZUM, SHINING czy KATATONII do bardziej świeżego, atmosferyczno-progresywnego oblicza depresyjnego black metalu. Zajawki tego były już słyszalne na "czwórce" pt. "After", a na "Bringer of Heartsore" są jeszcze bardziej wydatne i stanowią o tym, że to na pewno najbardziej dojrzały twór Astarotha Merca. Jeśli ktoś pamięta nagrania fińskiego THY SERPENT, to już jest bliski złapania tego, co nagrał RAVENTALE na swoim najnowszym longu. Mocno nasączona klawiszami, ale jednak oparta w głównej mierze na black'owych akordach muza ciągnie za sobą całą resztę, na którą w tym konkretnym przypadku składają się melodyjne solówki o niewątpliwie progresywnej proweniencji, akustyczne fragmenty i ciekawe aranże. Wciąż słychać, że muzyk jest pod wpływem nostalgicznej, nieco 'fińsko' brzmiącej strony black metalu, ma zapędy do quasi-symfonicznego, nie pozbawionego agresywnych i szybkich momentów grania, ale rozwinął to już bardziej po swojemu, wyciągając wnioski z poprzednich doświadczeń. Dodając do tego bardzo czytelny, przestrzenny sound można dać się ponieść tej wyprawie w nieznane. Może nie aż tak bardzo nieprzewidywalnej i bez przysłowiowej 'trzymanki', jednak na pewno trudno będzie o niej aż tak szybko zapomnieć. Do kolejnej, szóstej płyty RAVENTALE? Chyba tak ;)

No hace mucho que colgué la reseña del cuarto álbum de la one-man band ukraniana Raventale, editado en el 2010, y ya tienen otro nuevo larga duración, del año pasado, que de nuevo me hizo llegar su sello, Solitude Productions. Y cabe decir que sólo por la presentación, con esos tonos rojos y su aspecto más siniestro el disco ya se me presentaba a priori con mejor pinta.

El disco se enmarca dentro de un cuadro conceptual inspirado por las composiciones del poeta ruso Alexander Blok, líder del simbolismo ruso, y que Raventale usan para reproducir líricamente toda esa nostalgia que le produce la estación otoñal y la bella naturaleza de su país.

El señor Astaroth Merc continúa explorando la parte más atmosférica de su sonido, lo cual me parece una buena decisión, ya que es lo más interesante que este puede proponer, y se acerca cada vez más a esa tremenda melancolía que suelen desprender los discos provenientes de las tierras eslavas. Lo que más destacaría respecto a su predecesor es lo mucho que respiran aquí las atmósferas, hinchadas por los teclados, pero manteniendo una coherencia y fluidez más natural, incluso aunque lleguen por momentos a auténticas explosiones bombásticas. De hecho, los teclados eran el elemento que menos me gustaba en su previa grabación, y aquí resultarían absolutamente imprescindibles, tal vez por tender algo más hacia el Black Metal que al Doom, más importante en “After”. Eso se nota también en el apartado de guitarras, con más arpegios y melodías rápidas (siempre dentro del marco de los medios tiempos majestuosos que se mueven), y con un trabajo de batería algo más extremo, con bastantes arranques de velocidad y redobles. Incluso encontraremos algunos solos de guitarra, de inspiración muy claramente Prog’Rock, pero que sorprendentemente encajan a la perfección dentro de la grandilocuencia de sus composiciones.

El resultado de todo esto es que esa ambientación lacónica en la que nos quiere sumergir su compositor realmente se trasmite al estado de ánimo del oyente, un poco a la manera en la que lo hacen sus paisanos Drudkh, sólo que resultando menos desgarradores y algo más luminosos. Incluso a nivel de producción encajan mucho mejor todos esos elementos, dirigiéndolos en todo momento hacia ese aspecto más atmosférico, con la batería bien nivelada para que no rompa el equilibrio y las guitarras fundiéndose con los teclados. Incluso Morthvarg (vocalista de Deferum Sacrum y encargado de las voces a modo de músico de sesión) suena mucho más en linea con la música, aún a pesar de tener un registro realmente desgarrador.

Muy buen trabajo, Raventale dan un gran paso adelante y creo que con “Bringer of Heartsore” realmente se encauzan en su propio camino.

Black Metal band hailing from the former eastern bloc and a country that will host this summer’ European Football Championship! Before this championship kick-off I’ll suggest you to listen to Ukrainian flourishing metal scene. Esp. Black & Doom Metal scene is getting big in Ukraine. One of those bands representing true Ukrainian Black Metal is Raventale. Actually, it is a work of only one-man, Astaroth Merc, being highly recognized and well-established band, releasing here his project’s fifth and conceptual album entitled Bringer Of Heartsore.

On Bringer Of Heartsore this metal warrior from Kiev also gets support from some gust-musicians/colleagues. Well, back to the music itself; from the very start let me say this; Bringer Of Heartsore is without doubt the most sophisticated, sensual and mature work of the band to date! The musical part still features metamorphoses as the musician follows his rule to introduce changes to every following album.

The eight compositions presented on Bringer Of Heartsore feature more or less all some brilliant guitar soli, brilliant riffing added some classical prog rock and dramatic acoustic guitar instrumental parts. The atmosphere surrounding it is obviously doomish, dark and depressive, but also epic and melancholic blackish. Esp. the use of keys helps in creating this cold, melancholic and repetitive nature of this release.

Apart from the previously mentioned genres, I’ve also noticed his big love for Viking and Folkish nature, legends and ice-cold atmosphere. Everything sounds more or less smooth and charming on this opus. The overall production is also very well done and much better than one might expect from such an obscure and odd black/doom act.

If you also happen to be a fan of bands like Moonsorrow, Helrunar, Týr or Celtic Frost, and mid-paced black & doom metal I can highly recommend you this band.
