Первый официальный релиз от уникальной белорусской группы. Музыка Re123+ - это акт медитации. Коллектив каждый раз звучит по-новому, никогда не повторяется и к каждому концерту готовит специальную программу. «Magi» - это путешествие в прошлое, где древняя история о трех волхвах является слушателю, как астрологический сюжет. Это попытка понять и увидеть истинную суть вещей, очистить ее от многочисленных интерпретаций. Альбом, как и все остальные работы Re123+ был записан ночью. Помимо традиционных дрон-гитар, использовался баян, треугольник и перкуссия. Стилистически материал варьируется от дрон / дум до пост-рок, и придётся по душе любителям раннего творчества группы Earth. Для правильного понимания идеи альбома, буклет диска оформлен фотоработами участников проекта Re123+ и дополнен цитатами из романа величайшего постмодерниста Умберто Эко "Остров накануне".

Sært bandnavn, besnærende coverkunst, interessant konsept og original instrumentering til tross: musikken til dette russiske firkløveret blir aldri mer enn måtelig interessant, dessverre. De er på sitt aller beste når hele bandet er med, men de lange partiene med skingrende gitar blir for statiske og uengasjerende. Det er også disse partiene som gjør at totalsummen trekkes betraktelig ned. Helt hvordan de skal beskrives aner jeg virkelig ikke, men de havner innenfor Drone Doom/Ambient/Post-Rock en eller annen plass, hvis det godtas at de brukes trekkspill som hovedinstrument (ved siden av gitar). Dette instrumentet gir de helt klart en særegenhet som ingen andre er i nærheten av og de benytter seg flittig av trekkspillets evne til å lage lange dronete toner og akkorder. Litt merkelig at ingen har funnet på å bruke det tidligere, da det er som skapt for genren. Det er lange, instrumentale bolker som gjelder og når vokalen først kommer inn er den ordløs, messende og klagende. Noe som passer den generelle stemningen ypperlig. Det er den monolittiske og rituelle «Way to the Son» som utgjør hovedtyngden av albumet med sine knappe 30 minutter. De to resterende sporene legger til ca. 18 minutter på den totale spilletiden. Lydbildet på «Three in a Desert» antar en noe mer ambient form, frem til det kulminerer i tilfeldig gitarstøy mot slutten. Dette sporet er helt uten vokal og er bedre skrudd sammen, uten at det hjelper så veldig. I «Gold, Ladan, Mirra» kommer Post-Rock-inspirasjonene til uttrykk, men på deres dronete måte. Hvis de hadde unngått den «stykkevis og delt»-greia de har gående på hovedverket (sjøl om jeg delvis ser hvor de vil), og gitt alle tre låtene mer kjøtt på beinet, ville sluttproduktet vært langt sterkere og vesentlig mer fascinerende enn hva som er tilfellet nå.

Gruppo bielorusso che si chiama re123+; che intitola un proprio disco 'Magi'; che concettualmente narra del viaggio dei tre soggetti e del significato sul piano prettamente astrologico; che sulla copertina del disco propone una foto simil-etnica che a noi poveri mortali non è dato afferrarne il significato soprattutto se si pensa al contesto in cui si cala l'opera; che presenta un magnifico booklet cartonato in cui splendide foto in bianco e nero, simil-seppia, sono accompagnate da citazioni tratte da "L'isola del giorno prima" di Umberto Eco. Perchè tutto questo? A me sfugge il senso, siceramente. Pur tormentandomi, torturandomi nel tentativo di trovare un nesso anche solo personale al tutto fallisco miseramente. Certo è intrigante, ma desisto convinto ancora che la musica debba restare musica, mentre opere del genere devono essere rappresentate anche visivamente. Interazione, recitazione e quant'altro. Ed il contenuto? Drone ed ambient e brevi accenni post-rock. Quasi esoterismo sonoro che anche nei tre brani assume contenuti e forme diamentralmente differenti passando dal drone ortodosso e misterico di "Way To The Son", al misticismo tribale e distorto di "Three In A Desert", per finire con la litania post moderna di "Gold, Ladan, Mirra". Opera ambiziosa che merita certamente più di un ascolto, ma che in particolare richiede un interesse sperticato per l'interpretazione, nonchè una curiosità intellettuale fuori dall'ordinario. Opera anche coraggiosa, quindi, che si pone al di fuori dei generi e sfida l'ascoltatore stimolandolo contiuamente. Però un dubbio finale sorge spontaneo: non è che l'autoreferenzialità della proposta lo faccia pesantemente cadere nel vortice del fine a sé stesso?

Ambizioso, coraggioso, ma con tante riserve.

Solitude Productions and its sub-label (or associate label, not entirely sure) BadMoodMan Music do surprise me on occasion. re123+, a Belarusian drone group, released this LP last year, and it's their only release as far as I can tell. While there is a somewhat average score on the left, don't be put off. I quite liked this release – it has its faults, for sure, and I'm not going to miss the opportunity to pick them out, but overall this is an enjoyable record. It basically is the combination of post-rock progressions and a large drone component, which comes through in certain passages – still, this is mostly slow-paced and generally despondent, so I'm sure doom fans and Solitude Prod. die-hards won't be disappointed.

Magi is very one-sided when it comes to its songs, as anyone can gather from the track-list. The first song, ‘Way to the Son', runs at just under thirty minutes, dwarfing the next two which go for, respectively, ten and eight minutes. In every conceivable way, ‘ Way to the Son' is the focus of the record, and the two latter tracks are almost like filler – though they provide a cushioned come-down following the mammoth opener, they seem insignificant and not as engaging. In fact, I'm sure I would have played this a lot more and easily given it a higher rating if those two tracks were removed and the album released as a single track (or if the latter two were somehow merged with the first).

‘Way of the Son' starts with a cold and desolate melody, one which drones its way into other passages, where softer post-rock dynamics can be heard, as well as eerie clean vocals that are almost ritualistic. While the song is enveloping and engaging, it's not entirely cohesive and its various components do not flow together as well as they should. The vocals are also a bit of a miss for me – they are low and quite fitting to what they're accompanying, and though they will certainly appeal to some, I found them dull.

Second track ‘Three in a Desert' is the most ‘filler'-like on the album – it's entirely made up of loose, tribal drumming, with some soft programmed sounds backing it. It's not even worth mentioning as a song. Closer ‘Gold, Ladan, Mirra' is perhaps a bit better than how I described it earlier. It's quite a melodic track and worms its way through hypnotic and repetitive lines with good effect, quite reminiscent of Earth's later material such as Hex (though any ‘Southern' or blues-y vibe that Earth has is certainly not evident here). It is a nice way to finish off the album, but it doesn't quite fit with the rest of it. For something like this to work, all of its parts need to move together and flow into one another, and while re123+ do this to an extent, it's not quite enough to have me throwing up my arms. I did like this however – it was a welcome surprise from Solitude Prod., and I can see myself playing the CD every now and then, but it's certainly not as great as it should and could be. The cover and booklet artwork is immaculate though, especially the very inspired quotations on the inside, perhaps something that more bands signed to the label should take note of.

Эксперимент, объект творчества не подверженный излишней упорядоченности: он может происходить в любых формах, любое время и любых местах, а ценность финального результата зависит не от формы производства, механизмов и инструментария, а от возможности приближенного к пониманию оригинальной идеи восприятия и адаптации слушателем к своему перцептивному запасу. Видимо количество слушателей не играет роли в связи с уникальностью восприятия, собственно, оттого эксперимент чаще всего становится достоянием ограниченной части публики.

Не уникальный белорусский коллектив Re123+ являясь отголоском менее смелого состояния творчества в виде "какого-то там рок" коллектива предпринял путешествие в прошлое. Прошлое отдаленное и туманное, настолько, что смысловую часть релиза мне просто придется опустить за неимением базы данных на историю про трех волхвов и астрологические этюды, с помощью которых музыканты постарались добиться истины, найдя ее через много столетий. Умберто Эко с его цитатами на английском языке в буклете с таинственными фотографиями, отнюдь не помогает в расшифровке. Раскопки, эксгумация истины и чистого ядра истории по легенде авторов происходила в рамках одной ночи и импровизации с двумя гитарами, вокалом, аккордеоном и прочими мелочами в виде треугольника, перкуссии. Форма самовыражения на диске колеблется от drone ambient – на первом, длинном, на полчаса треке (это слегка оставивший в своем арсенале doom корни с сырыми гитарными риффами, медленно ворочающимися на фоновом гуле drone) – до post rock, в последней композиции, нисходящей до восьми минут, старательно не смешивая свои воды.

Самое занятное за все время звучания диска, это до боли знакомые звуки не слишком аккуратно смикшированного звука баяна (уж простите, за отступление, но своими руками этим занимался в свое время с тем же успехом), и отличный, гулкий и сильный вокал, представляющий собой удержание голосом одной ноты. Волнистое, гудящее полотно вокруг всего этого, даже расходящееся от медленного повторения риффа до полноценной композиции с ударными к концу третьего десятка минут, увлекает не слишком, но бесспорно сделано со всей возможной атмосферностью, и не скучно – попытки заснуть у вас будут неудачными, так и знайте. Тем более вы не заснете на второй композиции с трибальным ритмом перкуссии и въедливыми шумящими гитарами, которые, есть подозрение, все-таки играют сформированные творческим разумом структуры, а не кажущиеся на фоне беспорядочного фидбэка мелодии. К сожалению, звенящая высокими струнами в вечном повторении, разносящимся эхом post музыки "Gold, Ladan, Mirra" неправомерно скучна, по сравнению с предыдущими соседками, и весь шарм происходившего этим самым воздушным эфиром покидает слушателя, оставляя наедине с попыткой оценить альбом.

Обращаясь к заумному развороту в начале рецензии, следует привести конкретный пример с этим диском: общая атмосферность, спонтанность на вполне обычном изученном подходе (drone и эмбиентные пост-роки не белорусы первыми начали играть и даже не пять лет назад) позволяют "Magi" легко внедряться в жизненное пространство слушателя, при этом практически не раскрывая замысла – хоть убейте, но прошлого здесь не чувствуется – а та же спонтанность, повлиявшая на уровень наполнения и качества, лишает возможного блеска. Но ведь главное восприятие, с которым все проходит гладко, не муторно, после чего остаются непременные положительные эмоции.

Another band from post-Soviet territory, this time coming from Belarus. Re123+ is a mysterious project, because it is difficult to find any info on them. Re123+ appears to be a quartet, and “Magi” their fourth release. This is my first exposure to Re123+.
“Magi” offers only three tracks, but almost fifty minutes of some kind of experimental music. I definitely hear influence from Drone Doom Metal, but I believe that Post-Rock has made much more impact on this band. In recent weeks this style has been a surprising discovery for me. Re123+ plays a mixture of Ambient and Noise tunes with sporadic harder guitar riffs, but mostly everything is based upon melancholic Post-Rock. “Magi” has no vocal parts only instrumental music. Well, maybe “almost no vocal parts”, as the first track features some strange voices, experimental screams, etc. I’m not sure what mood you should choose for listening to this album, but if you decided to try it be prepared to have some free time. For the last day of the working week it was okay for me, but I also must add that there is almost nothing here that would force me to listen to this release again on my own decision. Maybe it would be more enjoyable at a Drone/Electro concert performed outdoors, but that is only me guessing (or just my imagination).
“Magi” is definitely an interesting release for those who are keen on melancholic music and experimental decisions. A nice experience, but it is a kind of meal that won’t be eaten a second time.

Отслушав этот альбом в первый раз, я подивился, что он был просто выпущен на BadMoodMan Music, а не в рамках их экспериментальной серии Art Of Silence. Белорусы со странным названием RE123+ играют, подстать своему имени, довольно странную музыку... Являясь сайд-проектом alt/prog metal команды RE1IKT, RE123+ записали уже четыре альбома: “Instinctive Talks”, “Background I”, “Night 183 Days Long” и “Magi”. Последний был записан за одну зимнюю ночь, 7 января 2009 года. Что характерно – ведь музыка RE123+ экстравагантный, не сказать диковатый, экспромт, создаваемый и записываемый исключительно по ночам. Основу (к слову, почти полностью инструментального) альбома “Magi” составляет 30-минутная композиция Way To The Son – тягучий и тягостный, медитативный drone/doom metal, сыгранный... на баяне. Такое неожиданное использование инструмента полностью оправдалось – бесконечный, вязкий и гудящий звук баяна идеально вписался в рамки дрон-метала. Впрочем, настоящая медитация начинается на второй (10-минутной) композиции Three In A Desert – неспешные, вводящие в транс, вкрадчивые перестукивания на фоне монотонного эмбиента... Завершающим же штрихом стала третья, 8-минутная композиция Gold, Ladan, Mirra, на котором RE123+ обратились к меланхоличному пост-рок/металу. Логичным дополнением материала альбома стало оформление 12-страничного буклета, основанное на романе Умберто Эко “Остров Накануне”. Сложный экспериментальный альбом, для оценки которого требуется сугубо индивидуальный подход.

Re123+ might have one of the most awkward, unmemorable, baffling band names ever, but their Magi album is one of the best associated with the doom genre... ever. The general mood of the album can be described as epic and church-like, but with interjections of experimental rock and ethnic percussion.

The main attraction is the twenty-nine and a half-minute "Way of the Son," whose three movements consist of building guitar drone, piercing, languid, doomy drumming, then a lengthy section of what’s credited as "button accordion" accompanied with blown-out chanting / singing, and wraps up with the gradual layering of one of those simple yet eminently poignant melodies whose effect has as much to do with the composition as it does the way the crystalline distortion on the guitar shimmers and crackles.

While the first track would be the main reason to buy this CD, the other two tracks are worth hanging around for as well. The second primarily features what could be bongos or a djembe, which segues into heavily distorted, shatteringly overdriven guitar whose sound reminds all the world of Caspar Brotzmann’s tone, and particularly of the 2nd track on his best album, Koksofen (especially with the inclusion of the hand drums).

Track three is the least memorable, but its relaxed, eight-minute ambulation through repetitive, humming, shimmering guitar, bass and ride cymbal provides a fine exit from this remarkable work.

While there are very few vocals — only the middle section of the first track features them (and no one in the booklet is credited with performing them) — the whole of Magi comes across as having a strong voice, and the presence of what little vocals exist hang around throughout the album’s running time.

If any negative aspects are to be found, it might be in the drum sound. While the performance is excellent, and the intensity and poignancy of the sound is commendable and effective, the sound might be a little too poignant: Either the drums are tuned too high for this kind of music (this is particularly noticeable on the toms), or the amount of compression on the drums has given them too sharp of a high end, where a more relaxed, low, and thumpy sound would seemingly have fit in much better. The harmonics of the drums and cymbals, while intense, can seem to be the cause of much of the more unpleasant frequencies heard on the album, which don’t seem to be the kind of harsh sounds that were intended.

This relatively small gripe aside, Magi has a soaring, rich sound. It’s intense, but also meditative. Its instruments resound with shimmering, almost shattering, feedback, and yet there’s still something relaxed about how that all goes down. Coupled with the interesting art and texts taken from Umberto Eco about the voyage on a ship and subsequent self-discovery found in the heavy, matte booklet, Magi will certainly be one of the most recommended albums of 2010.

Отечественный лэйбл для всего музыкально-странного сделал подарок всем, ищущим новых форм и ощущений в около- а точнее, в пост-метальном пространстве. Группа с, мягко говоря, оригинальным названием re123+ сотворила эксперимент над звуком, разбавив и так экспериментальный поджанр «post metal» аккордеоном, редкими психоделлическими, отдающими шаманизмом напевами, фрагментарной минималистичной ударкой, и примешав сюда модный в недавнем времени sludge. Всё это хозяйство образовалось в умах наших белорусских братьев. Гитара выдаёт грязноватый звук с жуткими диссонансами, найденными этим аццким гитаристом. Ударка отстукивает прямо таки funeral-образные ритмы и… отсутствия ритмов. И, о ужас, уши слушателя добивает аккордеон (звук которого «с ходу» можно и не идентифицировать), который отлично справляется с ролью нойзо-эмбиентных клавишных. В последней композиции музыканты по полной отдают дань пост-року посредством монотонного типичного для данного жанра гитарного опуса.

Буклет выполнен из шершавой плотной бумаги. На первых фото из него запечатлена обстановка типичной совковой дачи (к чему бы это…?), далее, следуют невнятные индустриальные развалины, технологичные остатки, мусор и пара пейзажей. Всё это сопровождается англоязычным отрывком из известного постмодернистского романа, о котором также, сообщается в буклете.

Название альбома является корнем всего магического. Но эксперимента ради, так и хочется дополнить его ещё одной буквой «G» – намешали ведь всего-всего и в итоге получилась музыкальная солянка…

Re123+ - белорусский проект, организованный в 2008 году участниками альтернативно-роковой группы Re1ikt. На ранних записях, когда Re123+ ещё были дуэтом, можно услышать дрон и нойз на основе обработки гитарного сигнала. Первая из них – “Instinctive Talks” - говорит о сосредоточенности музыкантов на самом звуке и хорошем чувстве музыкального времени, хотя взаимодействие между отдельными потоками звука прослеживается не везде и ощущается нехватка общего объёма звучания. Вышедший позже концертный альбом “Night 183 Days Long” более медитативен. Ядро его звучания составляют традиционные гитарные партии в духе психоделического пост-рока, тянущиеся вдоль незамысловатых ударных.
На “MAGI” ощутимо поступательное движение по сравнению с ранними опытами проекта. В первую очередь это касается взвешенности каждого звука – в почти тридцатиминутной “Way to the Son” нет партий, которые бы оставались шумом вне фокуса восприятия слушателя, звуки рельефны и, не подобрать более точного слова, «весомы». Это уже не только медитация, местами композиция начинает напоминать музыкальный ритуал. Красочности звучанию коллектива добавил кнопочный аккордеон и особенно его сочетание с гитарами, как фуззованными, так и чистыми. Во время прослушивания “Way to the Son” не возникает ощущения излишества в обработках звука, перегруженности эффектами, трек даже звучит немного «сыровато», что только придаёт ему своеобразия.
Помимо “Way to the Son” альбом включает два менее продолжительных трека – “Three in a Desert” и “Gold, Ladan, Mirra”. В первом из них эмбиентный гул и пульсация томов создют ровное музыкальное полотно, на котором ближе к концу композиции неожиданно возникает гитара с нойзовой сольной партией. «Полотно» при этом на все её пассажи практически никак не реагирует, и в результате и то, и другое звуча звучат сами по себе, и завершение композиции получается скомканным. “Gold, Ladan, Mirra” - самая простая для восприятия вещь на альбоме: гитары ведут простую мелодическую линию, пульсирующую делейными «хвостами», а за ней разворачивается дрон-панорама. Пусть и не поражающая воображение, но аккуратная и по-своему красивая композиция.
Отличное оформление диска, в буклете которого вы найдёте соответствующие по настроению музыке фотографии, а также выдержки из Умберто Эко, видимо, призванные заменить отсутствующую лирику, говорит о стремлении музыкантов сделать всесторонне интересный продукт. И в целом, это у них получилось – “MAGI” найдёт своё место в коллекциях как поклонников экспериментальной музыки в духе, скажем, Sunn O))), так и просто любителей современной пост-музыки.

Votre mission, si vous l’acceptez, est de chroniquer l’album de ce groupe. Tout ce qu’on peut vous dire, c’est que leur album provient de BadMoonMan et que le groupe est originaire de Biélorussie. Pour votre mission, vous aurez à votre disposition : un bloc note et un stylo bille.

Eh oui, le budget Inwë est très loin du budget du film Mission Impossible. Bon, ben j’accepte, mais je ne ferai pas de cascade, j’ai trop peur d’abîmer mon bel emballage !!

Quelques informations complémentaires tout de même, Magi est le premier album de Re+123 qui a sorti plusieurs démos auparavant. Il semblerait que l’album ait été enregistré de nuit pour conserver une certaine ambiance, mais l’album m’en dira plus.

L’artwork de l’album est absolument somptueux et indescriptible. C’est original, c’est bien fait, c’est surprenant, très bonne impression donc et une certaine impatience me gagne.

Way to the Son est un véritable parcours du combattant avec ses 30 minutes. Ce premier morceau est un mélange subtil de musique drone et d’ambient, voire de post métal. On enchaîne les parties bruitistes avec des parties instrumentales et aériennes. On s’aperçoit vite que Re+123 ne fait rien comme tout le monde en incluant de l’accordéon et une voix dans ce morceau. Sacrilège diront les puristes, du génie diront les autres, et autant vous dire que je fais partie des autres !!

Bien que l’album ne se compose que de trois morceaux, les ambiances sont très différentes. Three in a Desert est un morceau plus basé sur la rythmique et les percussions. Un effet d’écho dépeint rapidement une grotte autour de moi, dans laquelle une bête tapie dans l’ombre, m’observe. Une bête sauvage dont je me méfie mais qui n’a pas l’air méchante. Car oui, Re+123 est un animal sauvage, difficile à cerner, mais les magnifiques ambiances qu’ils nous offrent, me font dire qu’ils ne sont pas si cruels.

God, Ladan, Mirra reste mon morceau préféré car très ambient. Les mélodies à la guitare s’enchaînent, s’entrelacent, se chevauchent de manière très sensuelle. On est face à un véritable bal aérien fantastique, donnant parfois le vertige mais effectué avec simplicité, maîtrise et beaucoup de talent.

Re+123 est une grande surprise. Loin des ambiances malsaines de certains groupes de Drone, je dirais qu’il se situe surtout dans la mouvance Post métal. Une expérience unique à partager car après tout, Magi est un album complexe mais facile d’accès pour tous !!!
