Brief Sum: Great Post-Rock with growling and clean female vocals. The music contains some Chill-Out parts with some vibes in it.

Ebben a nótában kellemes női ének található, ami a Goth zenére jellemző hatást hozza nekem. A hangzás letisztult, profi munka.
Igazán illik a zene hangulatához.
Intenzív zenét kapunk a lemez többi részén.
38 perc a lemez amelyet kicsit keveslek illetve egy-két komolyabb gitárszólót is eltudtam volna viselni a lemeztől, mindenesetre így is elég jól sikerült darab.

Fading Waves.

Fading Waves is a one-man band of Alexey Maximuk from Rostov-on-Don. The Sense of Space is his first full-length. Alexey Maximuk is the sole creator of the entire story and music, and in the process of recording he was helped by five great musicians. When you say a band is new and it plays post-metal, you immediately think of a worn out Isis or Neurosis clone. Fading Waves is something else. The music is much more atmospheric and contains female vocals which are a bit untypical for the genre. The accent is more on the atmosphere than on heaviness, which is a plus and it steps out from the pile of cliché bands and cheap copies that play post-metal. The album contains a lot of progression which perfectly fits with the quiet parts. The production is admirable. Every instrument has a perfect sound and perfectly plays it’s part in the whole sound painting of this work. The only fault of this album is the length. After listening to these five songs with the length of about 40 minutes, you will probably play it again. All we have to do now, is to wait for a new album, which will hopefully be longer than the debut.

The Story In
24.06.2012

Fading waves is a one-man band out of Russia. Not the kind where an old guy holds cymbals between his knees, plays the accordion and sings all at once. No, Fading Waves is the post-metal brainchild of Alexey Maximuk, where he arranges, composes and plays all the music with a little vocal help from a studio singer. Maximuk’s latest release The Sense of Space is an atmospheric, five-track feast for the ears, with excellent musicianship and a wide written range of notes.

There’s nothing simple about The Sense of Space. The album builds layer upon layer of melody and harmony, creating complex arrangements. In listening to the album, I found it inspired creativity in my work. It’s the type of music you can put into your headphones before hitting the keyboard, and look up an hour and a half later with work done and no sense of time passed.

Part of the reason this is such a great work album is the groove set by the music. Guitars definitely drive Fading Wave’s sound. Using simple rhythms in the background, Maximuk’s lead riffs provide direction for the songs. He favors a slow, soulful picking style, often playing notes every two or more beats, rather than the typical one note per beat. The effect creates emotional feel that would befit a movie soundtrack.

Beyond the guitars, Maximuk uses just a touch of keyboard to provide atmosphere. That touch really sets this album apart from similar bands, and really completes the sound. this is great work from a man who understands subtlety. Drum and bass on the album are pretty basic, with the drums setting simple beats and the bass mostly expanding the range of the music. My only complaint on the album is that the drums sometimes sound thin in the mix, like they didn’t record properly.

On top of the music, the chilling vocals provided by Anastasia Aristova pushes the album over the top. Smack dab in the middle of this post-metal, funeral doom lies great beauty. Not only does the singer’s voice chill you to the bone, but she fits into some pretty heavy music, and really adds depth to the sound. I wish goth and metal bands with operatic singers could learn to do this more.

There’s a lot of post-metal out there. With new greats like Hull and Grown Below setting the bar, it takes something special to stand out. Fading waves certainly hits the mark with The Sense of Space. This album is a must-have for post-metal fans and creatives who want inspiring music to stimulate their work space.

‘Destroying The Time´ geht dann extrem in Richtung Moonsorrow.

Fading Waves is a one man band from Russia and his debut has made its way onto Slow Burn Records, another one of the extended arms of the Doom label Solitude Productions. Called a ‘Post Metal’ band, Fading Waves’ music was written solely by Alexey Maximuk, but he has plenty of guests to help him create the epic atmospheres he needs. Fading Waves takes the best parts of what would be considered Post Metal and puts it together in a very progressive fashion while creating a heavy atmosphere that could be considered Sludge Metal, but the music isn’t quite repetitive or distortion laden to really get there. The album opens with “Air” which is mostly just an atmosphere track with recorded messages and a synth in the background. “Flashes” is where the music really begins with the slow, percussive beat and soft guitar and the guest vocals of Anastasia Aristova. During the slower parts that aren’t chug heavy her voice sounds crystal clear and beautiful, but during the louder sections such as near the end her voice becomes very hard to hear. Other tracks like “Destroying The Time” are much more complex and high energy, being faster and this is where the other guest vocals from Alexey Morgunov come in- he has more of a deeper bellow that would be found on a Death Doom band. Anastasia is in there too but it is clear that when put side by side, Alexey’s voice blows hers away.

After a while it may seem like Fading Waves can get a bit repetitive with the same type of single string picking over and over on a track like “Perforate The Sky,” but compared to some bands that just use power chords or chords in general over and over at a slow pace, it sounds a lot more Post Metal based and better than what would be considered ‘average.’ On the final “Through The Veins” there is a much better balance between the growling during the heavy parts and the clean female singing during the softer, which creates that excellent balance the fans love so much between dual vocals and opposing sides of music. Overall, despite being only five tracks, ‘The Sense Of Space’ is quite a heavy and epic album that will certainly not leave fans short handed and give them a sort of trip that won’t make them too bored or too surprised that they won’t be sure what to make of things. This is just dreamy, decent Post Metal.
