“Valor In Hatred” was an album I reviewed some time ago from this act from Finland. Their sound wasn’t typical Scandinavian, but much more American death metal orientated. Their new MCD hasn’t changed much. “Become Malignancy” is again an album that reminds you of especially Deicide. Also the vocals of Niko Anokas have a lot of comparison with Glen Benton. This new MCD contains 4 tracks with a clocking time of 20 minutes and is recommendable to all people who like music as I just described before.

In an age where the process of producing music is more or less synthetic and often times almost literally computer generated, Finland’s Shadow Cut emerge with a sound that is naturally devastating. The three-piece, composed of members from Moonsorrow and Impaled Nazarene, have unleashed an organic debut that embraces the days of old and touches on the present. Aiding them in their first deadly strike is Firebox Records, whom picked up the band for a pair of releases, Pictures Of Death being effort number one on the label. Shadow Cut flawlessly breach the boundaries of any singular classification, creating something modernly classic and classically modern, yet all their own. Pictures Of Death distills a broad array of deep rooted black and death metal styles from all ends of the dark art spectrum, dispensing an incapacitating concoction that is murderous and merciless through and through. Wielding nine misanthropic mini-massacres, Pictures Of Death paints a punishing portrait of mankind’s demise. “My Sweet Cult” drags you down in the violent blackened thrash undertow as it blast beats your ass to a bloody pulp while you’re then buried alive by brutal grooves on “The End Of Humanity”. Akin to old school Death death, circa 1988, the title track holds a stunning semblance to the influential Leprosy. You just can"t go wrong! With cover art imagery depicting a slain lass lying in the snow, wearing no more than her own blood from an imposed throat injury, it is very clear that not even women and children are safe from the full-frontal assault that is Shadow Cut. Run for your life or stay for your death metal.

Think: Early Sabbath. That"s what this new Starchild CD sounds like to me, and that"s what it"ll sound like to you too. If you like early Sabbath -- and you"d better, or you"re pretty fuckng lame -- you"ll love Starchild, because it"s like a whole bunch of brand new early Sabbath songs are being written in the present. This is some extremely spaced out music. Echoed vocals and a heavy, but laid back, vibe dominates the music. The solos are straight out of doom-rock, Iommi hell. With this release, this band has vaulted themselves to the same level as veterans of the scene like sHEAVY and even ST VITUS.

Stereochrist tread across Down, Sabbath and Trouble, amongst others, as influences, and it shows strongly in their riffs and personality. A very southernish sound is present, which partially gives the Down comparison. 50 minutes of pulsating doom rock including Down’s „Bury Me In Smoke” as superb bonus track.

After several highly acclaimed demos Finnish Total Devastation has released their first full-length. This six-piece has many gigs and years of training behind them and in the light of these facts they are more than ready to make their debut. But what kind of material Roadmap of Pain has? Well, many kinds. Although the band"s goal is to make very crushing and blasting stuff, there are lots of variation in these ten songs: modern metal stomping like Diablo, Death Metal, blastbeats and Neurosis-like doomy soundscapes, to name a few. And all this is covered with synths and samples, greeting from Apocalypse. I think that different people will like different elements in Roadmap of Pain and in my ears Total Devastation was at its best when delivering slow and desperate funeral marches like Production Peak which reminded me about Red Harvest. Also some rock"n"rolling songs - for example Left Hand of the Devil - were good, but too fast and grinding songs I found too "trendy": in my dictionary "fast" stands for "brutal" quite rarely. But Roadmap of Pain is not a bad debut, far from it. It has balls (especially Jaakko Heinonen"s vocals prove that!), groove and nice tricks like an acoustic/violin start of Prepare to Die and that"s why all friends of industrial-laden Death Metal should check this album. But before their next album Total Devastation should focus their attack more tighter. Now the pack is too wide.

A collection of brilliant demos from a Norwegian Underground act, in fact one of the most underrated bands of the mid and late 90s - Gravferd. Unfortunately they never got the chance to release their material on CD (at least not until now) so these three demos were only available on tape or CDr and all are sold out since years. However, it seems the band didn"t know how to create bad or average songs (or they didn"t dare release them like so many others) because the material on this collection is marvellous from the first to the last second and it"s 72 minutes! Sound-fetishists may stay away, the material has not been remastered and is still as raw and unpolished as it was released back then but fans of old Northern Black Metal will find it much to their liking!
