stoner doom metal, Ardua Music
Originally formed in Madrid in 2007 as a new project from members of the seasoned bands Glow, Autumnal and Adrift, the band quickly developed their own identity and gained popularity, leading to their 2009 debut album "The Call of Shiva" being chosen as the best unsigned record by the readers of Terrorizer magazine. Gaining momentum with their next two full-lengths (2011's "Decline... Towers of Silence" and "Avesta" -2017-, as well as the EP "Deadly Lake" in 2014), the band increased their live activity, including an European tour with the blackened crust punks Khmer and support shows for diverse renowned artists like Godflesh, Baroness, Forgotten Tomb or Altar of Plagues, as well as celebrated sets at big festivals like Madrid is the Dark, Resurrection Fest, Doom Over Paris or Bracara Extreme Fest. On this new album the band pursues a more straightforward approach, with heavier shorter songs that still show the band's peculiar blend of sludge, different styles of doom and atmospheric metal, with massive wall breaking riffs, mesmerizing ambient passages and frontman and guitarist Juan Viguera's unique and emotive voice. The record’s lyrical concept revolves around the idea of becoming one with the cosmos after respecting Mother Nature’s creation, when we become dust from that dark star after trying to live a right and respectful life towards all other sentient beings. The impressive cover artwork has been created by Robert Hernández, one of the most prestigious tattoo artists in the world and the stellar production is courtesy of the band's longtime collaborator Carlos Santos (Wormed, Toundra) and Víctor García's (Adrift, Boneflower) crushing mastering. "Dust From a Dark Sun" is a fresh-sounding record that avoids pigeonholed stereotypes and will resonate with listeners who yearn for a sincere and moving experience from one of Spain’s most personal heavy acts. Would you come to the end of AATHMA's world?

Born in the fall of 2000 in Rouen (France), ATARAXIE take their main inspiration from the early 90s doom/death metal scene and slowest 80s/90s death metal bands. Thus, their genre mainly includes old school death metal parts and classic doom metal ones slowed down in the most extreme way but also various influences from the bleakest metal genres. Their music plays a lot with contrasts in general: ultra slow crushing parts alternate with furious blast beats, mournful parts with more epic ones, and vocals also varies from really deep grunts to tormented screams. Topped by a triple (!) guitar attack, ATARAXIE is a must for fans of diSEMBOWELMENT, Evoken, early My Dying Bride, Morgion, Cathedral, Esoteric, Asunder, Mournful Congregation, Spectral Voice or Incantation. Their new album, "Le Déclin" pushes the themes that were already present on its predecessor "Résignés" with a focus on subjects like manipulation and obfuscation of the Masses, the cult of selfishness, dehumanization towards a parasiting virtual life, global warming insolubility, and reflects the unique musical style of ATARAXIE.

Even with the setbacks occurred with the release of their earliest "Ghosts Of Light", the group didn't fall on idle state but instead begun their work for the follow-up album. This time in search of a more personal sound without leaving behind the atmospheres presented before. "Bleak" was written and recorded just one year after GoL (between 2021 and 2022) and it was mixed again by Eero Seppälä in Blacksmith Audio. Mastering duties this time were handled by Greg Chandler (Lychgate, Fleurety...) at Priory Recording Studios.

Started in Finland in the Summer of 2019, Autumnfall is a creation of Jussi Hänninen (ex-Fall of the Leafe, The Bleak Picture), conceived as spiritual successor to Fall of the Leafe’s early works. Soon after writing the first song Hänninen asked T. Ruohonen to join as the vocalist. A four track demo was released in late 2019 and it was during this time that Ruohonen asked O. Pirkkanen to join for the drum duties. Autumnfall pays tribute to FOTL first albums when mixing melodic black metal with some death metal elements while adding modern atmospheres and melodies. The first full-length album "Ghosts of Light" was written and recorded between 2019 and 2020, then mixed, mastered and digitally released in 2021. It was suppose to come out in physical format in 2021 but the plans fell through due to various reasons.

depressive dark rock, Ardua Music
2022 reissue by Ardua Music as six panel digipack limited to 300 copies. Choosing the term "depressive dark rock" to describe themselves doesn't do Counting Hours enough justice as the debut album from this Finnish five-piece not only links their sound to game-changing acts such as Katatonia, Paradise Lost and October Tide but succeeds on evoking the lost feeling of the 90s dark and gothic music scene, mainly because part of what you get to hear on their fresh and intriguing 2018 demo was written during that era, embodying the original atmosphere and vulnerability only a band from those times could materialize. Jarno Salomaa (guitars) comments on the debut full-length: «When we first started with Counting Hours, I basically went to our rehearsal room with Ilpo and had some beers along to record some vocals on the demo stuff I had made. Basically, nothing else besides creating music from the grounds I had made for Rapture back in early 2000. But anyway... Beer, good ideas (or damn bad ones) with a touch of Finnish-sweet melancholy combined with depressive music did hit us at last. After a while rehearsing and just a couple of shows, there was this very clear vision of continuing this path.» Now, and in order to successfully explore this territory, Counting Hours have tightened the screws with the aid of Jussi Hämäläinen (Hanging Garden, The Chant, Mercury Circle), who handled production and mixing duties, and Jaime Gomez Arellano, who took care of the mastering process, to offer in their debut album "The Will" a truly exciting combination of varying elements brimming with dark-stained riffs and the melancholic yet powerful vocals of The Chant's Ilpo Paasela.

Three years after their critically acclaimed debut 'The Will' and almost a quarter of a century after their first endeavour together, RAPTURE'S doom death seminal landmark 'Futile', guitarists Jarno Salomaa and Tomi Ullgrén (both of them also members of funeral doom legends SHAPE OF DESPAIR) are back with their haunting and otherworldly twin-guitar harmonies on the sophomore release of Counting Hours 'The Wishing Tomb'. On yet another surprising expansion of their signature sound, the Finns continue building a set of colossal and unforgettable melodies using unnerving and gazing grooves as the backbone of their compositions, only to be intertwined with the emotional vocals of singer Ilpo Paasela (of THE CHANT fame), culminating in what will be one of the gloomiest yet, oddly enough, most memorable releases of the year. Nine songs of bleakness and hopeless melodies that will be stuck in your minds for the rest of your hopeless life... the true masters of nordic melancholy are back! Compact disc in 6-panel digipak with lyrics. Limited to 500 copies.

Originally released by Defiled Records in 1998, "Evanescent, Everfading" was the debut album of Finland based act Fall Of The Leafe. During the first years since their inception in 1996, FotL found their own way of playing black/death metal with folk influences based on guitarist Jussi Hänninen harmonies and Jani Lindström vocals. The band entered legendary Tico-Tico studios in 1997 to record their first full length and from the Maidenesque opener "The Celestial Keeper" to the closing "Evanescent, Everfading", FotL delivers a 40 minutes unique masterclass of melodic death metal with black feels to take the listener on a journey to enjoy the sweet taste of 90s. Did you say Amorphis or Insomnium? It would be fair saying Fotl set the stage for them. The band took new musical directions with their sophomore album but "Evanescent, Everfading" proudly stands as one of the most unique creations of late 90s metal in Finland and Jussi started Autumnfall in 2019 to continue FotL early works legacy.

Some may have expected that creating an album to follow the darkly magnificent fan favourite, "Mors Diligentis", would be a daunting prospect for Spain’s doyens of doom, Golgotha. However, the band have sailed majestically past all their previous achievements with their latest collection of epic hymns. "Spreading The Wings Of Hope" exemplifies everything that is great about this much-loved band – the earthshaking heaviness and the enthralling melodies, the contrasting dual vocals that express such powerful emotions and the sublime song writing that can utterly enchant the listener. This 2024, featuring eight momentous tracks, laden with portent and powerful emotion and mixed and mastered to perfection by Javier Fernández (Avulsed, Holycide, TodoMal), "Spreading The Wings Of Hope" will be released on CD and cassette formats on June 14th, adorned in vivid, compelling artwork. This album sees Golgotha scaling new peaks of creative endeavour and weaving some of the most captivating musical spells of their career to date. Fans of the very finest heart-rending heaviness should prepare to experience absolute melancholic, melodic magnificence! 6 panel digipack limited to 200 pressings.

It's just a fact that Chile is one of the most relevant countries when it comes to the doom metal scene these days. From pioneers like Poema Arcanus, Mar de Grises and Uaral to more recent acts like Procession, Mournument, Mourning Sun or Wooden Veins, there's something uncanny and unique about the way in which Chilean artists use melancholy as a vehicle for their gloomy music. Immersed is yet another promising project from those Pacific shores, led by multiinstrumentalist Cristian Durán and blending the sound of the genre's classics like Katatonia, Swallow the Sun or Ghost Brigade with proggier outlines à la Edge of Sanity, Novembre, old Opeth or even their fellow countrymen Mar de Grises. Yes, you'll hear those harmonized gloomy melodies you can find on most doom/death records, but also plenty of skillful solos and heavier parts, rounded up by the splendid production of Carlos Fuentes (Inanna, Sol Sistere) at the infamous Sonido Origen in Santiago de Chile..

Inborn Suffering first formed in Paris back in 2002 and over the course of the following eight years they established themselves as masters of doom, spinning tragic tales across foundations of colossal riffs and ethereal melody. They performed alongside fellow overlords of the doom/death underground like Swallow The Sun, Saturnus and Mourning Beloveth and produced two critically acclaimed albums - Wordless Hope and Regression To Nothingness - before stepping away from the scene in 2012. It would be eleven years before Inborn Suffering began to stir again, but when the flame of creativity was alight once more, the new music began to flow. Pale Grey Monochrome is a stunning collection of songs that preserves the mournful, reflective soul of Inborn Suffering, but somehow reaches new heights of melodic beauty and plunges to new depths of absolute desolation and despair. Set for release on February 7th 2025, Pale Grey Monochrome will capture the hearts of the doomed and the damned, all devotees of the most sombre and introspective sounds. 6 panel digipack with booklet limited to 300 copies.

Since their formation in Mechelen, Belgium at the dawn of 2008, Marche Funèbre have carved their own indelible mark into the annals of heavy music. Originally inspired by the renowned triumvirate of Peaceville bands – My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost and Anathema - Marche Funèbre have long since shaped those influences into a sound that is all their own, a unique distillation of melancholy, atmosphere, beauty and soul crushing heaviness. With revered albums like 2017s "Into The Arms Of Darkness" and 2020s "Einderlicht" they have risen to a place of prominence within the mournful ranks of doom metal’s elite – and still their creative star continues to rise. With a new deal in place with Ardua Music, Marche Funèbre are ready to unveil their fifth full length album, After The Storm – the most impactful and emotive set of songs to bear their name. Magnificently produced, mixed and mastered by Martin Furia (Destruction, Nervosa, Toxik etc), "After The Storm" is overwhelmingly impressive from the very first notes of lilting melody that begin opening track ‘In A Haze’. Vast chords and superbly powerful, guttural vocals bleed into passages of bittersweet reflective melody, as poignant clean vocals add washes of colour to the deep shadows of sorrow. With every instrument so vibrantly alive, with each note carrying such weight of purpose, ‘In A Haze’ sets the tone perfectly for all the sombre magic that is to follow. Marche Funèbre have never sounded better than on the majestic ‘Palace Of Broken Dreams’, never captured the essence of their spirit so completely as with the wonderful slow thunder of ‘Enter Emptiness’. As the tempo smoothly shifts in ‘Devoid Of Empathy, as the vocal melodies soar above the ringing chords of ‘Stranded’ and as the final notes of ‘After The Storm’ fade to black…these are just some of the moments that will entrance you, stay with you and let "After The Storm" find a home in your heart forever. The March is coming… with the sound of DOOM.

Mournument started activities in 2021 after Niklas (Deveneror, ÆRA, Forestfather, Flesh Configuration) and A.P. (Sol Sistere, Concatenatus, The Ancient Doom) met and discussed the creation of a new artistic vessel, considering some musical styles that has not been well explored in their home country Chile, taking aspects of the deepest and most emotional tunes of traditional Chilean folklore, combined with a melancholic Doom Metal approach. After a few months of hard work, a full length album was created, and the experienced drummer C. Krono (Favna Abisal, The Ancient Doom) was recruited to complete the band’s line up. Mournument will not hesitate in showing stark influences from fellow countrymen Uaral while embracing the melancholy of Agalloch or Estatic Fear together with the folk spirit of Empyrium. Their music is melancholy with elegantly adorned melodies which lulls the listener into a feeling of catharsis together with the funeral speech that the band presents to us. Finnish dark doom death metal duo The Bleak Picture was founded in 2021 as a side project of Jussi Hänninen (Autumnfall/Fall of the Leafe) and Tero Ruohonen (also vocalist at Autumnfall). Their first promo was written, recorded and digitally released the same year with a follow up CD/Vinyl version in 2022, with the addition of real drums. They didn’t stop there but begun work on their debut album ”Meaningless” and finally, after what feels like an eternity, the album will be released in March 22nd 2024 by Ardua Music on CD and on all major digital platforms. Bleak and desolate, without forgetting beautiful melodies, THE BLEAK PICTURE dives deep into murky waters that can also be called melodic death doom metal. The band’s doomy riffage borders on death metal heaviness, but the music manages to escape from the shallows of repetitiveness continuing in the atmospheric groove traced by the band's acclaimed first EP, with greater emphasis on dark melodies that wrap the songs in a cosmic shroud of stars. The vocal lines frequently alternate registers, offering haunted wailing cleans, catchier verses and dread-filled death calls. The sound is instantly familiar with nods to the ‘90s, but never sounds retro or like mere homage. For fans of old Katatonia, Paradise Lost, Dolorian, Swallow the Sun, Counting Hours or Killing Joke. Released as jewel case CD, first pressing of 200 copies.
