Fading Waves 12/20
Strachitect 11/20

This split is the first offshoot of Slow Burn Records, new publishing arm of Solitude Productions, this time facing the promotion of post-metal and similar sounds.
And in the case of post-metal (for some, a damn designation), a label actually quite comprehensive in its meaning and heavily eroded by the tremendous amount of projects that have emerged over recent years. We studied this case with some care, without very high expectations. Then again, we feel a bittersweet taste in the hearing of a dozen themes.
The first seven issues are the responsibility of Fading Waves, another one-man project, which takes Alexey Maximuk as its mentor and creative soul. And just over thirty minutes, what we hear from the budding columns are exercises in conventional post-metal (okay, enough of post…), atmospheric discharges and with the usual weight, implying that for this band has eagerly devoured the work of Mono, Isis, Cult Of Luna and Callisto. The basis of the themes included in this album is, generally, instrumental, emerging a few vocalized moments, which are dispersed and diluted in the mass noise always present.
Without bringing anything new, governed by standards created and established by others, Fading Waves eventually demonstrate that they have assimilated those contents well, mirroring in friendly and entertaining themes, however, something else is missing to make them stand out…
The second part of the split is reserved for ukrainian Strachitect, which are quite different from what we heard earlier. A sound less polished, wilder, more alternative too, and even skimming the indie moments. Where we could find the contemplation and dream in Fading Waves, here there is the urgency of now and the severity of the issues, without candor.
In “Beauty Of Sin”, we have a catch of the sludge always present over the album and ultimately to be the best song among the five ones which are part of this work, along with “In It”.
This band shows a good instrumental quality, with a pulsing bass and a safe sound of drums, supporting the entire musical structure, making room for a very effective and diverse guitar work, with some complexity to the songs. The major flaw turns out to be the vocal register, where the pitch doesn’t abound, this record is very screamo, leading the compositions, in general, to lose dimension, beyond the need to create some loops that stay in your ear.

Otschen choroscho!

Slow Burn Records begins its activity with this Split CD presenting its own path: post-metal. This is the first post-metal label from Russia, or at least that’s what their statement says.
Two young bands, Fadin Waves from Russia and Starchitect from ukraine joined to release this split. The first one, Fading Waves is a one-man-band from Rostov-on-Don founded in 2008 and from what I understand from the info I got on the web, the 7 tracks presented here are actually their debut EP released last year. Musicwise Fading Waves is an Atmospheric Sludge Post-Metal project based on dreamy instrumental parts supported by a few, here and there, background vocals. The guitar work is great, complex and progressive, but without the support of those powerful, fat bass and drums lines this wouldn’t have been complete at all. A very catchy band reminding me of Earache’s Cult Of Luna.
Startchitect is a duo from Ukraine playing Post-Hardcore Metal music which is not really the kind of music I review inhere and that’s because I’m not capable of following and understanding it. There’s no point of talking shit on things that I don’t understand. The 5 tracks presented here are taken from their “Hope” EP, so I would suggest the ones of you into this genre to give them a listen on Myspace and form your own opinion. Still I’ve listened to their part of the CD and I must admit I don’t like the vocals, but I pretty much enjoyed the guitar work, very deep and atmospheric, and the drums which have their own identity, their own path.

Slow Burn rec is sub-label of Russian Solitude/BMM, and here they release post-metal/post-hardcore etc… This split is their first release, so let’s see how successful this is!

First band is one-man project from Russia, hm, again one guy did good job and the whole album looks like complete band worked upon, he-he. So what here is? And here is post-metal, made in such almost doom metal way. Melancholic melodies, not extreme rhythms, acoustic parts and growls. The whole album sounds on one breath, but filled with tempo-changes and various slowdowns with fast breaks. The songs are melancholic, with such light attitude, with some cosmic feelings here and there, and sounds interesting. I’m not a big fan of such music but I see al made professionally and I even can listen to this not one timeJ.

Then comes Ukrainian band STARCHITECT with five songs. These guys plays post-hardcore, the style which I do not likeJ. Maybe with many touches of CULT OF LUNA or NEUROSIS, but not enough extremeJ. Various structure of the songs, from measured slow parts up to fast hysterical tempos with same hysterical vocals. For sure there are lots of fans of such music, and they will judge STARCHITECT right. The only thing I like here is musicians technical skills, all played right and without any weak sides, tight bass, drums and reach for ideas guitar parts. Also some guitar parts, which are really interesting, catching and smashing in its structure.

Try this if you are into post meta / hc.
