Ознакомление с третьим альбомом ОД я начал с разбора его названия. Вот есть, например, такое определение: “эманация – термин неоплатонизма, фиксирующий онтологический вектор перехода от семантически и аксиологически высшей сферы универсума к менее совершенным”. Куда уж мне, бедолаге, со своим высшим техническим... Если же говорить попроще, то эманация – это переход, истечение от сложного к простому. В общем и я, пожалуй, перейду от сложного к более простому и допишу рецензию на последний на данный момент и третий по счету альбом подольской дум-металической группы ОТКРОВЕНИЯ ДОЖДЯ “Эманация Ненависти”. Очередные перестановки в составе – Letarg'a (LETARGY DREAM) на посту басиста сменил Евгений Борисов, отбарабанил на альбоме в качестве сессионного музыканта Владимир Ляшков (BEHEADED ZOMBIE, LETARGY DREAM), а обязанности вокалиста, после ухода Алексея Forside Насонова, поделили между собой гитарист Владимир Андреев (также ON THE EDGE OF THE NETHERREALM) и лидер команды Илья Ремизов – неизбежно привнесли изменения в звучании группы, но пугаться не стоит – основополагающие принципы звучания ОД не были затронуты – это все тот же doom/death metal в довольно аскетичной, но, в то же время, очень мелодичной форме. Тон всему альбому задает первая вещь Время – романтичная и сочная, но довольно жесткая композиция, за которой, словно по линейке, выстроились остальные. В итоге получился меланхоличный, красивый и очень ровный альбом, без излишеств и экспериментов, по-своему мрачный, но отнюдь не источающий ненависть или же агрессию, заложенную в названии и обложке. Если попробовать описать этот альбом его лирикой, то скорее всего подойдет цитата из песни В Ожидании Пробуждения: “грация, сокрытая в камне”...

Podobno REVELATIONS OF RAIN na początku grało tradycyjny death/doom metal. Nawet jeśli tak było i nie wyróżniali się niczym szczególnym, to trzeci album w dyskografii tego rosyjskiego bandu już nie może pozostać pominiętym, właśnie ze względu na jego dojrzały charakter i coś, co jest wyróżnikiem wobec wielu przeciętnych wydawnictw w gatunku "doom metal". Owszem, "Emanation of Hatred" ma w sobie wiele podobieństw do produkcji tworzonych przez amerykański EVOKEN i w nieco mniejszym stopniu przez fińskie UNHOLY czy bogów z MY DYING BRIDE, ale zaprawdę Wam powiadam - nikt, komu nie jest obojętne posępne, mrocznie i ciężkie granie, nie przejdzie wobec tej płyty obojętnie. Jest masywne, bardzo klarowne brzmienie, odpowiedni tonaż emocjonalny, zawodzące gitary, świetnie wplecione akustyki, niezła melodyka, a nawet całkiem sporo drapieżności. W połączeniu z umiejętnością kreowania odpowiedniego klimatu, różnorodnymi wokalami (growle, wrzaski, szepty, deklamacje) i naprawdę sporymi umiejętnościami muzyków daje to rzeczywiście zgrabnie poukładany i bardzo równy materiał, który nie jest bynajmniej zbudowany na pewnym schemacie. Nie brakuje tu atmosferycznych fragmentów, wręcz kopiących w ryło przyśpieszeń czy niebanalnej melodyki. Pewnego uroku dodaje też to, że teksty są w języku rosyjskim, choć to akurat nie jest aż tak wyeksponowane, może poza bookletem i tymi partiami mówionymi na płycie. Założę się, że gdyby ktoś wysłuchał tego krążka bez znajomości kto to, co to i nie widział wkładek do wydawnictwa, i tak bez dwóch zdań polubiłby te dźwięki, bo są utrzymane na wysokim poziomie przez całe 48 minut z sekundami. Na długie jesienne i zimowe wieczory pozycja wprost wymarzona! I mam nadzieję, że dzięki temu REVELATIONS OF RAIN zostanie w końcu dostrzeżone tu i tam.

I've spent the best part of a fortnight now driving twice daily across the bleakest part of the fens, watching the fields barren and brown, with the swirling mists of autumn laying a bleak blanket of grey into the middle distance. With the sun yet to rise and the prospect of another day sifting through some fresh distillation of despair laying ahead, it takes a certain album to be able to match the maudlin atmosphere of autumn in the marshes.

Which brings me neatly to Russian outfit Revelation of Rain. This isn't their actual name, of course, but the English translation – alas, I don't have a Cyrillic keyboard, but the translation is nether the less spookily accurate to the music contained on this disc. This is high quality, emotionally charged doom in the vein of a slightly more musically adventurous Evoken. Leaden, grief filled guitar riffs with over laced melodies and tasteful, almost subtle synth work have been wrought as delicately as the foggy mists themselves. Just as you think you've got a handle on the band, just when you think you know the next melody that will come crashing into the music, or the next riff, Revelation of Rain manage to confound. Yes, there are some genre staples here and there – some of the guitar work does have a touch of the weepy-lace-hanky about it, but more often than not there is a fair amount of invention about the music in a very pleasing fashion.

Vocally, these are the hoarse, gravelly variety, and I dare say if I spoke Russian that I might be able to understand what they are singing about. The drum work is perfectly workable – not particularly flashy, but nether the less workman like and able to tie the rest of the band together. The song writing is pitched just at the right level to induce mild depression and navel-gazing introspection, which may not be to everyone's liking, but then it takes a special kind of listener in these attention deficit days to be able to sit through seven minute tracks in the first place. As for me? Well, all I know is that by the time I have finished the hour long commute in the company of these miserable sods, the cathartic listening experience has convinced me that it could be worse – and take it from me, that is quite an achievement. Sterling stuff.

Il faut croire que le label russe Solitude Productions, bien spécialisé dans le doom metal mélodique, a un don pour dénicher des groupes talentueux et extrêmement émotifs. Après Helevorn, une bonne claque il faut l’avouer, ou The Sullen Route, le combo Revelation of Rain sort son troisième album signé encore une fois chez ce label justement. Troisième méfait et surtout troisième chef d’œuvre pour ces jeunes russes où l’émotion et la tristesse ne sont pas des termes inconnus à leurs yeux. Le nom de leur groupe, déjà, est bien significateur d’une peine sans égale, la pluie représentant à coup sûr les larmes…

Leur album s’intitule « Emanation of Hatred » et s’arme d’une pochette rougeoyante où une créature squelettique ailée erre sur une terre a priori décharnée, brumeuse et perdue…une pochette bien représentative d’une musique quasi similaire.
J’annonce tout de suite que je citerais les noms des quelques titres dont je parlerais en anglais, l’album étant concocté par des russes…par conséquent, tout est écrit en russe dans le livret de l’opus, même que les paroles, par ailleurs, sont chantées dans cette langue bien particulière, donnant des sonorités bien originales dans les vocaux. Ca change de l’ordinaire et ça nous dépayse totalement, nous auditeurs, avides de nouveauté.

Dès les premières notes du morceau « Time », on ne peut que penser à ce sentiment de mélancolie, de désespoir mais aussi de solitude. C’est assez oppressant mais tout aussi planant, les guitares étant lamentées et les claviers apportant un fond ambiant bien agréable malgré tout. Le chant est terriblement caverneux et nous emmènent véritablement dans les méandres d’un monde perdu où des âmes damnées nous accueillent parmi leur peine et leur souffrance. « Our Cathedral » et son titre si sacré, ne peut qu’évoquer cet endroit de recueillement, frais et si triste à la fois. Les claviers et les chœurs en fond prennent littéralement l’auditeur aux tripes alors que des harmonies à la guitare, en terrible osmose avec ces claviers, nous transcendent…

« Salvia Divinorum » pourrait s’annonce comme l’élément salvateur de l’album. Les claviers sont plus impériaux, le rythme tout aussi lent, certes, les guitares plus agressives et moins pesantes. Cette instru change réellement de ce qu’on a entendu avec les titres précédents, pour nous embarquer dans un univers plus inquiétant et terrifiant. S’ensuit « Hidden », plus intense, plus dense et compact aussi, toujours doté de solos plaintifs et de cette voix terriblement enivrante…mais après une instru qui semblait changer l’ambiance principale de ce « Emanation of Hatred », il fallait bien s’attendre à ce que la suite change aussi. Ainsi ce « Hidden » malgré son côté lamenté, est plus tranchant et plus dans une veine Doom/Death. Un rythme plus rapide avec de magnifiques solos accompagnés encore et toujours de ces claviers si somptueux…

« In Expectation of Awakening » finit l’album d’une manière plus qu’inattendue. Le rythme a d’autant plus accéléré, les guitares sont encore une fois plus agressive et le chant plus incisif. Rocailleux, toujours, mais aussi plus criard, à la manière d’un chant black. Quelques petites pauses tels des interludes viennent agrémentés ce titre si intense, des pauses mélodiques, calmes, sereines, planantes, touchantes…

Qu’il est bon d’écouter cet opus si émotif et vraiment agréable malgré son ambiance bien noire et pessimiste. Encore une bonne claque de la part de Solitude Productions. Un véritable chef d’œuvre en matière de doom…

Direttamente dalle terra di Russia, ecco il terzo lavoro in studio per gli Otkroveniya Dozhdya (Revelations Of Rain), band dedita ad un Death Metal dai toni marcatamente Doom e dai passaggi atmosferici. Lavoro tutt’altro che banale, soprattutto quando a farla da padrone sono le ambientazioni più tenui. Passaggi onirici che ci fanno sognare, serenità che si mescola ad un filo di malinconia per passate sofferenze e i cui sentori rimangono nell’aria. Ora però, speranzosi, guardiamo al futuro, ed in questo gioco di luci ci sentiamo finalmente appagati e sorridenti. “Emanation Of Hatred” continua sulla strada tracciata dal suo predecessore, mantenendo una sensibilità di fondo invidiabile. La chitarra la fa assolutamente da padrone, strumento che tesse melodie, rappresenta paesaggi e li disegna con maestria. Ampia veduta in cui profondo respiro lascia spazio ad un lieve tepore di primavera, sole che tramonta, sguardo perso in un cielo terso. La notte arriva come momento di pace, ombre nascondono tetri presagi nascosti, però, da una famigliare protezione. Sentori pagani, fuoco che brucia e tradizioni orali tramandate, clima accogliente la cui superficiale impersonalità ed immutabilità, nasconde silenti sguardi d’amore. Full-lenght da assaporare, sviscerare e carpire in ogni suo istante, ascolto per amanti di un genere tanto sensibile quanto impegnativo. Eccelso, sotto tutti i punti di vista.

Vi dice niente il nome di Vladimir Andreev?
Avevamo parlato di lui l'anno scorso, in occasione della pubblicazione di Different Realms dei On the Edge Of The Netherealm - di cui è il tuttofare – un album di un doom/death abbastanza cupo e pesante, ma ahimè altrettanto scialbo e superficiale. Oggi il nostro si ripresenta con i Revelations Of Rain - anch'essi accasati presso la Solitude Productions - nei quali si occupa delle chitarre e delle vocals, non più in solitaria ma in compagnia di altri personaggi della scena locale, tra i quali troviamo alcuni membri degli Ocean Of Sorrow.
La band si muove su territori sonori abbastanza simili a quelli dei On the Edge Of The Netherealm, prediligendo però sentieri più canonici per il genere, sulla scia di bands come My Dying Bride, Officium Triste e via dicendo. Rispetto alle produzioni soliste del caro Vlad, questo Emanation Of Hatred è sicuramente un lavoro più maturo e complesso, con uno spessore compositivo ben superiore; tuttavia lo stesso Vlad non risulta ancora del tutto capace di concepire brani personali e autonomi, dovendo ricorrere spesso e volentieri a citazioni altrui, ma fornendo comunque alcune ottime intuizioni.

Scorrendo i vari brani, non risulta affatto difficile trovare dei momenti molto interessanti nei quali il combo russo sia abbastanza abile nel (ri)creare ottime atmosfere, come ad esempio nella iniziale Time, brano fortemente influenzato dai My Dying Bride degli ultimi anni (anche se proprio qui la band ha trafugato il giro di chitarra che rese immortale The Angel And The Dark River!). Questa prima traccia si snoda per oltre 7 minuti di ammalianti sonorità doom, improvvisamente intramezzate da una sferzata death metal - in pieno stile anni '90 - che sul finire lascia nuovamente spazio ad una ripresa del motivo portante. Con Our Cathedral l'atmosfera si fa più tesa e opprimente; il growling di Vlad si fa profondo e cavernoso, conferendo valore ad un brano che altrimenti sarebbe quanto di più canonico si possa ascoltare nel genere, eccezion fatta per l'uso delle vocals - spesse volte in lingua madre - che rimangono l'unico elemento che distingue la band, sfortunatamente in negativo, data l'osticità del cantato russo.
Anthitesis Of Life - titolo che rimanda molto da vicino gli onnipotenti Evoken - si lascia ricordare per uno stacco in blast beats molto cruento, incastonato su un brano che nel suo volgere sarà capace di donare momenti molto atmosferici, nonostante il singer si ostini ancora a prediligere la lingua madre, con risultati che definirei quantomeno stridenti. Salvia Divinorum, composizione sulla quale si fa largo uso della melodia dei synth, lascia scoperto uno dei punti deboli di questo disco con troppa ingenuità: la drum machine. Lasciata a suonare praticamente da sola per tutto l'inizio del brano - dimostrando così i limiti intrinsechi alla soluzione stessa - la drum machine va ad inficiare un brano che solo nella seconda parte si fa notare per uno stacco schiacciasassi, che purtroppo però finisce sul nascere. Hidden e Mortido scorrono via senza grandi sbalzi umorali, lasciando spazio alla conclusiva In Expeditation Of Awakening; brano più lungo dell'intero lavoro con quasi 9 minuti di musica, e che nella parte centrale spicca per un interessante assolo di chitarra eseguito su riffs molto dilatati.

Nonostante questo Emanation Of Hatred sia costellato di brevi episodi interessanti, reputo questo lavoro appena sufficiente in quanto - a mio parere - non si può pubblicare un lavoro costituito dall' 80% di soluzioni più che abusate e con un solo 20% di soluzioni interessanti, le quali tra l'altro non vengono neanche sviluppate a dovere. Mi dispiace prendere ad esempio questa mal capitata band per affondare le mie critiche all'attuale scena musicale, ma finché le etichette discografiche si ostineranno a produrre dischi in maniera indiscriminata, non potremo aspettarci che le bands perdano il loro tempo a perfezionare la loro musica in sala; è così che abbiamo un conseguente quanto inevitabile decadimento della qualità media generale.

Mit “Emanation of Hatred” präsentieren die Jungs aus Russland bereits ihr drittes Album. Und ich muss gestehen, dass ich sie vor der Entdeckung dieser Promo selber noch nicht kannte. Was sich in Zukunft jedoch ganz sicher ändern wird, denn was hier geboten wird, ist wütender und emotionaler Death/Doom Metal par excellence.

Das Soundgewand ist schwer und dunkel, wie man es generell vom Doom Metal kennt. Bei der Produktion dieser Scheibe wurde nichts dem Zufall überlassen, denn alles – sei es der drückende Bass oder das schleppende Schlagzeug – kommt sehr präzise und abgestimmt daher. Gelegentlich fühlt man sich sogar mehr an ein Album aus der Funeral Doom Richtung erinnert, so sehr presst einen der Bass stellenweise an die Wand. Da freuen sich die Nachbarn drüber.

Wer bei Death/Doom sofort an MY DYING BRIDE denkt, kann diesen Gedanken gleich ad acta legen. Denn zerbrechlichen, klaren Gesang sucht man auf diesem Album vergeblich, ebenso wie Einflüsse aus dem Gothic-Bereich. Stattdessen legt Sänger Ilya Remizov all seine Wut und Aggression in die langsamen, tiefen Growls. Es knistert förmlich an allen Ecken und Enden.
Generell nehmen REVELATIONS OF RAIN die Bezeichnung ihres Subgenres etwas genauer als die Jungs von der Insel. Hier werden die Einflüsse aus dem Death Metal bereits im ersten Song „Time“ mehr als deutlich, wo aus dem schleppenden Tempo plötzlich eine rasante Raserei erwächst. Der Wechsel kommt überraschend, jedoch nicht unangenehm. Durch diese beständigen, wenn auch nicht immer so extremen, Wechsel gewinnt das Album enorm an Dynamik. In „Antithesis of Life“ fühlt man sich gar für kurze Zeit an schwarzmetallische Tonkunst erinnert, wenn Remizov beweist, dass er auch ganz passabel fauchen kann.

Seltener wird eine melancholische Grundstimmung erzeugt. Und wenn, dann unter anderem durch ein mittlerweile wohl bekanntes Mittel: Chöre. Ich persönlich bin kein allzu großer Freund von solchen Chor-Einsätzen, da sie einfach zu oft herhalten müssen, wenn anders spielerisch die gewünschte Stimmung nicht erzeugt werden kann. Doch REVELATIONS OF RAIN beweisen ein verdammt gutes Ohr für die passenden Momente. Wenn ein Chor vorkommt, dann hat man das Gefühl, dass er auch genau zu der Stelle passt und die songeigene Atmosphäre unterstreicht und sie nicht erst erzeugt.
Für mich ist das Gespür für ihre Musik und die zu erzeugende Atmosphäre ein ganz großes Plus dieser Band.

Ich möchte hier den Song „Salvia Divinorum“ hervorheben, um diese Aussage zu unterstreichen. Benannt nach einem Salbei, das bereits in geringen Mengen stark halluziogen wirkt, bietet dieser Song einfach ein unglaublich faszinierendes Klangbild, mit dem ich so mitten im Album nicht gerechnet habe.
Anfangs spielen lediglich Bass und Schlagzeug, unterstützt von ziemlich schrägen Synthesizer-Klängen, ehe sich nach einer gewissen Zeit eine schöne Gitarrenmelodie einbindet. Wenig später kommt es zu einem Break in dem Track und ein bedrohlich-schräges Gemisch aus brachialem Rhythmus und verrückten Syntheziser-Klängen jagt einem einen Schauer über den Rücken. Der ganze Track kommt ohne Gesang aus. Eine ganz eigene, passende und dramatische Atmosphäre. Super!

Emanation of Hatred is the third upcoming album that belongs to the Russian doom/death metal band, ”Revelations of Rain”. The album further develops ideas of the previous albums and prepares you right from the start (even through its very name actually, ”Emanation of Hatred”) for a tense, emotion/hate filled experience. Maybe the release of the album on the 13th wasn’t purely coincidental.

‘‘Emanation of Hatred” fully gives the impression of a very well made album, a very knotted one, to be precise, with heavy riffs that accompany you almost every single moment throughout, with the dark and slow rhythm of the drums that amplify this heavy atmosphere. The voice is exactly the way it’s supposed to be in a death/doom album.. low and heavy growls. As far as these passages spread throughout the album may be concerned, I can also place the album in the sphere of funeral doom, influences of this subgenre being very clear.

However, the album means far more than what I’ve previously mentioned. So many influences appear while you’re listening to every single track.. The rhythm breaks that appear in some certain places, with solos and fast drum beats underline in a strong manner the death metal part (it’s very noticeable in the track called ‘‘Time”, at 5:20 or so) and the long and melodic guitar solos protrude the melodic doom (a band that I’ve particularly thought of after listening these parts was The Prophecy(UK) ). A subtle black-ish influence is noticeable in the ”Antithesis of Life” at around 2:50 (a very fast drum rhythm, also, a high pitched voice).

”Emanation of Hatred” is not an album in which one may expect romanticism, melancholic states.. It would be ridiculous, rather, since the keyword of the album is ”Hatred”. It’s a harsh album, that produces a state of revolution and hatred against everything that’s surrounding you. To underline the quote from the Solitude-Prod description: ”Forget about violins, roses and romanticism: only gloom and hate fill this undoubted pearl of the genre”.

This would be one recommended album for the death/doom fans.. the ones that are familiar with and happen to listen to Mourning Beloveth, The Prophecy, Swallow the Sun, Evoken and early MDB will probably appreciate this album, as well.

Le troisième album des Russes de REVELATIONS OF RAIN installe définitivement le groupe parmi les gardiens du temple du Doom Death pur et dur.

La pesanteur oppressante et les ambiances désespérées de compositions comme « Hidden », « Antithesis Of Life » et « Time » raviront les aficionados de ce sous genre. Les guitares se plaisent à combiner riffs arasants et plans Heavy plus mélodiques et mélancoliques ; le chanteur Ilia REMYZOV cultive la gutturalité propre au Death en y adjoignant quelques piques plus haineuses, inspirées du Black Metal (« Our Cathedral » notamment). D’ailleurs, l’influence Black metal se fait sentir également dans des accélérations assez rares mais notables, sans compter la misanthropie générale du propos !
Seul le titre « Mortido » semble vouloir proposer une perspective plus mélodique, plus aérée (tout est relatif, ne nous emballons pas).

La production convient tout à fait au style pratiqué : puissante mais suffisamment claire.
En fait, il n’y a formellement pas grand-chose à reprocher à REVELATIONS OF RAIN, le groupe étant cohérent par rapport à ses propres objectifs. Peut-être qu’un peu d’audace supplémentaire lui permettra à l’avenir de franchir d’autres étapes.

Apparently Otkroveniya Dozhdya means Revelations of Rain, I did not know that. This is their third album and it’s a heavy piece of dark and brooding Death/Doom Metal. Heavy and gloomy, filled to the brim with melancholy and darkness. I can detect elements of My Dying Bride in the music, with traces of early Katatonia also. You know what I mean, heavy riffs, melodic riffs, slow pace and deep vocals. Not bad at all, for all fans of My Dying Bride.
