Третий альбом The Howling Void уводит слушателей от воздушности и невесомости предыдущего альбома к подземным глубинам, отображённых в сокрушительных звуках эпического funeral doom metal. Неповторимое звучание группы всё так же магически притягательно, её подчерк узнаваем, но на этот раз тяжёлые гитары, соединяясь с атмосферными клавишными, несут ощущение суровости безлунных ночей, ледяного дыхания подземелий и пустынных ландшафтов. «The Womb Beyond The World», это альбом – путешествие, альбом – событие. В оформлении музыкантом снова использован шедевр русской живописи XIX века - картина Николая Ге «Совесть. Иуда», образно раскрывающая идею альбома – мрак, отчаяние и безысходность. Альбом издан в виде лимитированного digipack.

A massive wall of sound, a symbol of power for the mighty ruler who stands on the tall mountain gazing over his dominions. Where there is power, there is loneliness and melancholy which tethers the spirit and soul.

You find yourself staring into a dark abyss with nothing but hatred and emptiness inside.
The slow beating drums and ultra heavy riffs are a vessel to document this hopelessness and darkness.
But all is not brooding in the shadows of pitch-black darkness. The synthesized melodies and pianos bring a passage of hope soundscape, still the returning melancholy crushes with twice the force, diminishing all positive thoughts.

How much darkness can a mind take. How much of the crushing somber atmosphere can you survive.
However, digging deeper into the scape much of the darkness is artificial. The angst is not real.
My dear readers, you come to notice that nothing stops you from spinning the album again, save maybe boredom.

So in the end you are left with an album of majestic sounds and beautiful melodies.

...and when the everlasting darkness turns into night the mighty ruler, our self proclaimed emperor ... why not even God, can lie down with a wide smile and rest until the next downfall of his people can commence.

Nunca he acabado de entender, ni creo que lo haga, el poco valor, prestigio o como lo queráis llamar, que a veces, se le da al Doom Metal. Cierto que es el genero undergraund que menos número de bandas puede tener, quizás por esa minusvaloración que antes comenta. Aun así el Doom goza de buena salud y al igual que el su vástago más deprimido el Funeral Doom.

THE HOWLING VOID es una one band, proyecto de Funeral Doom de Ryan (INTESTINAL DISGORGE, HORDES OF THE MORNING STAR) formado en 2007 que en estos días saca su tercer álbum, a través de Solitude Productions (compañía que siempre me ha parecido interesante y mucho más con la adquisición de nuestros compatriotas EVADNE).

Si he de ser sincero nunca me ha acabado de convencer esta banda. Me recuerda un poco a EVOKEN, salvando las distancias claro esta, solo que menos asfixiante y más “Black”, a lo mejor es por eso por lo que no me acaba de gustar o quizás por el hecho de que se me acaban haciendo larguísimos la mayoría de los temas (algo que no es normal que me ocurra, ya que me encantan los temas largos y con más razón en el Funeral).

No dudo que, este “The Womb Beyond the World”despertara el interés de los aficionados al estilo, pero por desgracia y aunque el CD se podría decir que es mas “amable” y de melodías que pueden atrapar un poco más que los anteriores, sigue cayendo en el mismo error de repetir, partes de canciones menos adictivas y sobretodo de dejar bastantes tiempos muertos en forma sonidos atmosféricos, que hace que uno se canse rápidamente del tema.
