The Bulgarian Black Folklore ensemble Svarrogh of Dimo Dimov has recorded another masterpiece of Ritual Folk music. "Balkan Renaissance" is already the 4th Svarrogh album under the banner of the god of the sun. This mystic sound-journey drags you along to the ancient heart of the Balkan mountains, its caves, rivers, villages and people with their deep mythological roots. Svarrogh"s sound is absolutely unique, not only because of the beautiful mandoline-playing and the bagpipes, mixed with droning synths, which envocate the return of the sun. Svarrogh creates a musical look through a grey window to discover the dark past of Bulgaria??s 19th century and its Renaissance, after years of osman opression. On "Balkan Renaissance" you can listen to original passages of famous bulgarian poets and artists like Dora Gabe, Elisaveta Bagryan, Elin Pelin, Dimitar Talev or the amazing poems of Ivan Vazov. On this album, Dimo Dimov also pays a tribute to the genious music of Allerseelen with the song "Kamerad". And as a special feature, the CD will also contain a so called Martenitsi. Martenitsa is a Bulgarian heathen/pagan tradition related to March 1, which has its origin in the establishment of the Bulgarian state in 681 AD. Mart is the Bulgarian word for "March". According to Bulgarian folklore, the month March marks the beginning of springtime. Therefor, the first day of March is a traditional holiday associated with sending off the winter and welcoming the spring. Key-figures in these ancient traditional rites are the Kukeri, the demons who banish winter and invite spring and fertility. The Kukeri are the Balkan counterpart to the Austrian and south Bavarian Perchten. This album is full of traditional-, pagan- and ritual Folk music, Neo-Classical songs, Martial drummings and it has even some Industrial moments. - 18 tracks / 73 min.

"Yer Su" is the 5th full length bulgarian folklore avantgarde doctrine and the 3rd release under the banner of the bearer of european heritage Ahnstern. Svarrogh (Dimo Dimov) presents here a very complex post folk experience, trully dedicated to the holy earth-water Yer Su from the mystic and ancient bulgarian pantheon of Tangra - nonetheless it also shows the symbiotic allegiance to slavic mythology and european culture from the depths of the Pamir mountains and meadows through the slavic steppes up to the Balkan realms. 6 songs and 40 minutes about the Austrian / South German Rauhnacht rituals. "Rauhnacht" is a rural, ancient soundtrack for the holy Jul nights, combined with dreamingly sad Folk balads and Pagan Folkmetal hymns. all artwork for this edition was painted by Markus Wolff in may 2007 on wood-plates and the CD, as well as the LP, has a booklet with german and english lyrics. the album was mastered by Axel Frank (WERKRAUM) at the Blue Lounge Studios / Berlin. Waldteufel is the brain child of Markus Wolff, born in Germany, lived in the Austrian Alps for a while and then, as a youngster, moved to the United States, where he lives in Portland OR now, the US central town of alternative music. he has been involved in the musical underground since the mid-eighties when he co-founded the infamous Crash Worship. After leaving Crash Worship (ten years later) he assisted Blood Axis with live performances and eventually started his project Waldteufe,l who have, in addition to appearing on various folk and neofolk related compilations, now released two 7" EPs "Bergoch am Walde" and "Der grosse Rausch", a full length album "Heimliches Deutschland", a 10" record "Eines Gottes Spur" and now the Rauhnacht CD. "Rauhnacht" was originally released by the Portuguese label Terra Fria. the original mCD featured four songs on 28 minutes and was released as a limited edition of 500 copies, housed in a plasticbox with black/white artwork. for this edition, 2 new tracks with a total of 12 minutes were added, 2 of the original tracks were newly mixed and all 4 tracks from the first edition were freshly mastered. Markus is not only an accomplished musician, he"s a shaman, a thinker and writer, and a amazing artist. His paintings invoke a primordial sense of rootedness and archaic passion that will send shivers down the spine. Waldteufel has had a variety of musical collaborators over the years including Michael Moynihan, Annabel Lee and Aaron Garland but as it now stands the two permanent members are Tyrsson Sinclair (accordion, flute, guitar and various other instruments) and Markus. Waldteufel has a unique approach to music. Markus" original idea was to have the project be totally acoustic/organic, one which transcends time and reaches back into the Germanic past to bring forth a deep and personal experience for the listener. Shamanic drumming, violin, accordion, cello, viola, bodhran, bells, flute, whistles, trumpet, bass guitar and Markus" deep galdr and precise Schlagwerk acheive that...and beyond. And the first releases were definately in keeping with this plan. But as it goes, things will evolve (naturally) in time and Waldteufel has addmitedly broken it"s own rules. They"ve have added a very noticeable electric guitar. This was first heard on the Wir rufen Deine W?lfe compilation released by Ahnstern in 2004, during the Waldteufel rendition of Hielscher"s invocation. Tyrsson"s excellent guitar work (and accordion) adds levels to the project as a whole and listeners are again treated to it on the third track of Rauhnacht entitled Hexe Hild, based on the obscure poetry of Leopold Weber. They have managed to pull together something entirely unique with this seemingly incompatible coupling of musical styles. The end result is something of a percusso-centric metal (but not overly metal, mind you) that still maintains an organic feel. And that is just the begining. The first track, Allerseelengebet, begins with a very old, crackling recording of German hunting music, the traditional fanfare and horns, barking hounds and horse hooves clattering amidst the esctatic frenzy that ensues. Then a recitation of the poem of the same name by Friedrich Hielscher over the Jagdmusik. An ode to the Lord of the Hunt. With the second track In den Zw?lften one is reminded of the earlier Waldteufel works, with softer drumming and flute, and Markus" vocal accompaniment chanting the words of Hugo Kaeker. Track 3 is a shamanic, ritual drum-piece, again about the Wilde Jagd and track 4 is a dreamingly sad Folk ballad, a fairietale about Frau Berchta and her legion of restless wandering children"s souls. the fifth track is a poem about the mistress of the Hunt, Frau Holle (the northern German pendant to Berchta), and the twelve smoke filled nights of Jul. The sixth and final track is Ur-Odin, a twelve minute song that immediately brings to mind images of the old sacrificial bogs. The crackling of a fire, the chirping and croaking of various frogs, birds and insects and an unsettling whisper. This builds and builds and finally ends with a recitation of the poem Ur-Odin by Karl Wolfskehl. The title of the album is indicative of the overall theme; Rauhnacht. From the beautiful paintings of the old Perchtenmasken and Wotan"s Wild Hunt on the sleeve to the content of the music itself, the poetry and spirit with which the songs are performed, this is an album you will want to have near when the time again comes for the Host to ride. - sol

Niiko (now the only member of Asmorod) used the word Hysope (French word for Hyssop) as a symbolism of spiritual purification. In ancient times, Hyssop was used for the cleansing of lepers (Leprosy may represent sin... but lepers were not necessarily sinful) and used for cleaning sacred places. Как всегда, Possession productions постарались сломать очередной стереотип и реализовали Metal альбом "Suicidal rebirth" иранского(!) проекта EKOVE EFRITS. Миру не так и много известно о Тьме скрывающейся в персидских пустошах. А стоило бы быть более осведомлёнными… В Иране запрещено исполнять Black Metal. Но не так, что "ай-ай-ай нельзя так делать", за это просто сажают в тюрьму. Для перса исполнять Black Metal - значит рисковать своей шкурой. И уж тем более запрещено исполнять Black Metal, который так красив, и наполнен пропагандой далёких от ислама вещей, вживую. Чтобы попасть к нам в руки, диску с исходными трэкам для мастеринга пришлось от знакомого к знакомому облететь весь земной шар - в Иране нельзя банально пойти на почту и отправить компакт-диск бандеролью, Интернет тоже контролируются исламистами. Таковы суровые законы шариата… EKOVE EFRITS сартовали в 2001 уже успел выпустить великолепный мини-альбом "Key to the Kingdom of Shadows" (в лимитном сплите с BARD BRANN), который моментально был распродан. На своём новом полноформатнике EKOVE EFRITS исполняют меланхоличный и сумрачный Black Ambient Doom Metal с абсолютно своеобразное (однако, НЕ восточной или фолковой) мелодикой и атмосферой. Сам Count De Efrit говорит о своей музыке так: "Это коллекция боли, печали и непознанных иллюзий, отражающихся в больных видениях, которые смешаны с музыкой".

The man behind Jahrtal is Ewald Spiss, a artist from Tyrol, who already started doing electro-acoustic music and sound-installations in the early 80ies. Jahrtal today is authentic psychedelic Folk music, maybe only compareable with In Gowan Ring (read more HERE). The lyrics of the second album are poems of "Songs Of Innocence and Of Experience" by the english poet William Blake (1757-1827), translated by Ewald Spiss, as near as possible to the original Blake-texts. - 10 songs / 58 min.

As with previous releases, Monarch move through massive blackened tarpits of low-end riffage and sheets of gluey feedback that are stretched out into monolithic slabs of sound, a grim, glacial ultra-doom that crawls at a saurian sub-tempo. And vocalist Emilie sounds as gaunt and ghostly as ever, her vocalizations materializing across the spatial doomscape as distant ululating wails, breathy whispers, and putrid death shrieks. The mysterious Portland ensemble Trees return with their second offering on Crucial Blast, Freed Of This Flesh, with two new fetid death rituals scraped from the crypt. Each of these tracks averages around fourteen minutes, an extended death-rattle formed from black glacial riffs suspended in space, tectonic percussive rumbles, anguished shrieks of torment and abject suffering, deep guttural demon-toad throat singing, and endless sheets of glistening metallic feedback that spill and drift to the far edges of their extreme time-stretched ambient doom, a crumbling, blighted majesty, noxious ambient blackdoom adrift on putrescent tides. The wretched vocal effluvium creeps formlessly across austere slabs of crushing heaviness arranged into ghoulish constructs of atmospheric dread, moving so slow that the music seems to lose all sense of propulsion at times, becoming lost in a fog of howling amplifiers and buzzing feedback, the guitars stretched into massive decomposing drones, the spaces between infested with controlled bursts of drums that skitter and rumble, almost "jazzy" in a vague sort of way, but still incredibly slow and ponderous. Freed Of This Flesh inhabits the same sort of black-tar depths as the likes of Burning Witch, Monarch, Khanate, and Bunkur while stripping the slo-mo heaviness into their own twisted, skeletal configuration.
