Greek doomsters Immensity present their meticulously prepared debut album “The Isolation Splendour” which features five brand new monolithic tracks, and also includes the two tracks from “The Lonely Aquarelle” demo so that the entire Immensity discography will be represented together. With a massive total runtime of approximately 68 minutes, the album can be described as a comprehensive yet intricate journey into atmospheric and melodic death-doom, and will appeal to fans of old school and traditional death-doom in the vein of My Dying Bride, and early-Paradise Lost as well as The Gathering, Novembers Doom, Daylight Dies, and Ahab.

What are the odds of meeting another debuting Greek doom band the day after we discussed just such a thing?

Immensity admittedly plays doom/death, but the probability is still rather slim.

If you saw that one coming, you should definitively buy yourself a lottery ticket today.

Immensity has only got one demo behind them, carrying the artistic name The Lonely Aquarelle. They just as well added the two songs from it to the five new songs on The Isolation Splendour. Thus, you get their whole discography served here. When the majority of the songs are about ten minutes long, this makes for a long duration affair, and perhaps a protracted one too. 67 minutes of mournful music that flows slowly as a river of thick honey can be a test of patience if you (meaning I) focus on the over ten promos that should have been reviewed during the week. It’s a good thing, than, that this is quiet and pleasant music that soothes frayed nerves.
Taking ones time is the only sensible option when new music is to be digested anyway.

Immensity’s form of death/doom is of the rather benign kind. Their metal is generally not very hard, although it’s a bit heavy. The music is more atmospheric and dreamy, with a gentle touch of gothic moods, than rumbling and ominous. Where some exhibits gloom full of indignation and underlying thoughts of revenge, the Greek sextet are closer to innocent sorrow and despair. Need references? Consider Draconian, The 11th Hour, Daylight Dies and Hamferр as a few fairly similar and rather random examples.
The two songs from the demo does also remind me a little bit of the first song of The Foreshadowing’s Days of Nothing and My Dying Bride’s 34.788% … Complete in occasional riffs and lines of melody.

This is generally a genre that rests quite heavily on melodies, especially when the music is in the quietest end of the death/doom scale. Immensity offers neat and comfortable tunes and melodies, but after close to seven hours in the company of The Isolation Splendour, I miss melodies with hooks that really probe the frontal lobe and connect to the cerebral cortex.
The song material might not be top notch, but this is still a solid piece of nice music, and time well spent.

Un’altra band si affaccia al proscenio del metal più malinconico e melodico: si tratta dei greci Immensity, i quali con The Isolation Splendour entrano a far parte del ricco novero delle band europeo dedite al doom death atmosferico.

Il gruppo ellenico, nel corso di questo riuscito esordio su lunga distanza, dimostra d’aver appreso alla perfezione gli insegnamenti dei migliori nomi del settore, e parlo in particolare di Swallow The Sun e Daylight Dies, senza dimenticare spunti rinvenibili anche in band dalla storia più recente come Evadne e When Nothing Remains.
Se vogliamo, è questo l’unico punto dolente dell’album, ovvero il fatto di non mettere in mostra ancora un sound del tutto personale a differenza delle band citate, che esibiscono un tratto peculiare e riconoscibile nonostante tra di esse gli scostamenti siano apparentemente minimi.
Di loro, però, i ragazzi ateniesi ci mettono sicuramente un gusto melodico da primi della classe e un’interpretazione vocale impeccabile da parte di Leonidas Hatzimichalis, ottimo sia con il suo feroce growl sia con le più sognanti clean vocals.
The Isolation Splendour è senz’altro molto bello, curato a livelli di suoni, ricco di spunti notevoli e, in fondo, scorre esattamente come l’appassionato se lo aspetterebbe, ora guidato dalle dolenti note chitarristiche, ora con le clean vocals a dare respiro alla drammatica aura fornita dal growl.
Più brillante nella sua prima metà, l’album regala appunto tre preziose gemme come l’opener Heartfelt Like Dying e Irradiance, più orientate allo stile delle band d’oltreoceano (oltre ai già citati Daylight Dies, anche qualcosa dei primi Novembers Doom), anche se a differenza di queste troviamo più caratterizzanti break con clean vocals, e la title track, il brano migliore dell’album nel quale sono rinvenibili anche sfumature progressive; tutt’altro che trascurabili comunque, The Sullen, che offre notevoli spunti emozionali grazie al lavoro della chitarra solista, Everlasting Punishment, brano strumentale piuttosto elegante, e la conclusiva Adornment, sorta di atto d’amore nei confronti dei My Dying Bride nella sua fase iniziale, con successivo sviluppo all’insegna dello struggimento melodico, mentre Eradicate risulta un episodio più opaco rispetto al resto della tracklist.
Va detto che gli Immensity sono attivi comunque fin dai primi anni del decennio (infatti le ultime due tracce citate sono presenti anche nel demo datato 2012), per cui ciò che potrebbe apparire derivativo spesso non è altro che un percorso parallelo, all’insegna di un comune sentire musicale, con altre band emerse in tempi relativamente recenti.
In definitiva, The Isolation Splendour è un lavoro che sarà apprezzato non poco da parte degli appassionati al versante più melodico del death/doom: il prossimo obiettivo per il gruppo ellenico sarà quello di mantenere questo stesso standard qualitativo rendendo però maggiormente personale il proprio sound.

Már jó ideje nem téma az, hogy egy banda más ország kiadójához szerződik, sőt, jelen esetben egy görög társulat lemezét gondozza közös összefogással egy orosz és egy kanadai kiadó. 2009-ben formálódott meg az együttes, nagyjából a mostani tagokkal. Egy 2012-es demó után ez az első lemez, szóval nem észtvesztő a tempó.

Egy 1 óra és 7 perces atmosphericdoom/death metal anyaghoz ma már nem lehet szemszűkítés nélkül közelíteni. Eleve nehéz a műfaj, ráadásul hosszú is a lemez, így tényleg eredetinek/lenyűgözőnek kell lennie ahhoz, hogy működjön… Négy perc után nem hallani semmi érdekeset, és akárhogy is nézem, ennyi idő után más zenekar már túl van egy dalon. Aztán igazából egészen a nóta végéig nem éreztem átható erőt. Az Irradiance című tétel végén hallható kétszólamos énekig kellett várjak, hogy valami izgalom érjen. Ez pedig közel a huszadik perc. Mindjárt utána folytatódik az eseménytelenség a címadó dalban. Az ötödik percében beúszik egy álló harmónia és egy kétszólamos ének. Ezekkel a részekkel lehetne nagyban megdobni a színvonalat, ugyanis az álló harmónia mindig monumentális. A kétszólam szintén. Aztán a duplázó újfent vadítja az összképet. Hát kérem… Mire vártunk eddig??? Huszonöt percet soknak érzek felvezetésnek, még úgy is, hogy bő egy órás az egész mű. Innentől kezdve egy kicsit emelkedettebb is marad, mint, ahogy indult, de sajnos a csúcspont az előbb említett témákat jelenti.

Ami mindenképpen gyenge szerintem, az Hatzimichalis hörgése és a dob. Mindkettő totálisan semmitmondó. A gitárok eltekeregnek jobbra-balra, de ott is nagyon hiányoznak az egyedi ötletek. Ezt így, ahogy van már százszor megjátszották mások. A dallamos énekhang jó, de nem nagyon igyekszik kibújni a megszokott skatulyákból az énektémákat illetően a srác.
Összefoglalva ez egy tisztességesen összerakott, jól kevert, halálosan unalmas produkció.

A CD borítógrafika ízléses, bár túlzásnak tartom két csoportkép plusz a tagok fotóit külön – külön is feltüntetni. Ezek vagyunk mi, látjátok, látjátok???

Van az a gonosz mondás a rockiparban, hogy ha jó hangszeres Ön, de nincs dalszerző vénája, játsszon bluest. A metalban véleményem szerint pont ez a fajta doom / death vonal szolgál erre. A cikk írása közben sokszor jött rám a kritikus rémálma, amikor is fingom sincs, mit tudnék a hallottakról írni. Sajnos ennyit, ami itt szerepel. Ha a srácok nem erőltetik meg magukat, én sem fogom. Most biztatásképp adjak jó pontot, lévén ez egy debütalbum? Nem fogok, mivel mégiscsak hét éve léteznek. Ha ennyi idő alatt nem jött meg az egyedi hang, ezután sem fog. A semleges öt ponthoz képest a plusz egy az említett harmonikus megoldásokért és a két szólamokért jár.

Immensity est un groupe nous venant tout droit d’Athènes en Grèce, nous présente “The isolation splendour” son premier album qui fait suite à sa démo sorti en 2012 sous le nom de “The lonely aquarelle”. Alors c’est sorti le 21 Mars 2016 chez Solitude productions et Hypnotic Dyrge Records.

“The Isolation Splendour” contient donc cinq morceaux inédits et les deux titres de “The Lonely Aquarelle” en version remasterisées. Le groupe nous présente donc sa (jeune) discographie complète sur une galette de 68 minutes ! Alors autant vous dire que chroniquer un album de cette longueur est une première pour ma part, étant plutôt habitué à écouter trois voir quatre disques sur une telle durée (changement de disque inclus).

Déjà saluons le travail de production de qualité, c’est clair et compréhensible, surtout au niveau des voix, car le groupe alterne les chants “growls” et les chants clairs, avec une belle voix masculine ! Production réalisée par Kimon Zeliotis au Tzek Keregioz Studio, du travail de qualité.

Les fans du genre seront ravis, on est ici face à un album “monolithique” qui s’appréhende vraiment d’un bloc, le groupe sait manier les ambiances avec brio. Tant et si bien que cet album sera vraiment l’occasion d’un voyage pour l’auditeur : un voyage au travers d’un océan glacé pour arriver sur une île perdue où vous marcherez pieds nus dans le sable froid! Les vagues s’écrasant inlassablement sur le rivage, l’album est sujet à contemplation. Tel un Mark Landers face à la vague dans Olive et Tom, vous ferez face à vos démons et n’en ressortirez que grandis !

Rythmes lancinants, mélodies variés, bien qu’un peu répétitives par moments, mais n’est-ce pas inhérent à ce genre ? Le groupe maîtrise son sujet sur des morceaux avoisinant parfois les 12 minutes (oui, oui…) et ne relâche que rarement la pression, le plus souvent d’ailleurs au début des titres avec des introductions claires, ce qui donne un côté presque “progressif” à leur musique.Le plus gros bémol se situant selon moi au niveau de la pochette qui bien que porteuse de sens aurait mérité à mon goût un travail un peu plus fourni. Dommage !

Vous l’aurez compris il s’agit là d’un disque a réserver aux fans du genre, les autres peuvent tester pour la découverte et pour le voyage.

Desde Grecia nos llega el álbum debut de IMMENSITY un sexteto que dio su primer aviso con la promo de 2 temas “The Lonely Aquarelle” (ambas rescatadas e incluidas) y que por fin se desvirgan en sociedad con un álbum bastante elaborado. La propuesta de IMMENSITY es un Death/Doom bastante emotivo, con mucho sentimiento y con los requisitos que se le piden a este tipo de propuestas.

Nada más arrancar con la preciosa “Heartfelt Like Dying” uno siente en lo más hondo la gran influencia que ha significado Draconian en muchísimas de las bandas que se desvirgan en el citado género u otras con menos peso como podrían ser los italianos The Foreshadowing. La emotividad, el paso a paso, las notas largas, el contraste que te eriza la piel todo ello es buscado y premeditado y obviamente es el camino a seguir en el transcurso del álbum. Otra cosa es que logren mantener las buenas formas en los 60 minutos de música que nos aguardan algo sumamente difícil cuando la personalidad estilística todavía está en ese punto en que hay más influencia ajena que carácter y personalidad propia.

Las canciones aportan muchísimos contrastes, intentando colorear con diferentes ramas, ya sea estribillos melódicos limpios muy en la onda de los últimos Anathema, pasajes emotivos, tristes y negros onda My Dying Bride junto con esa guturalidad cuyas arenas movedizas fácilmente podrían firmar el lado más bruto de los griegos.

El tema que da título al álbum “The Isolation Splendor” y sus extensos 11 minutos, es otro ejemplo de la comunicación que intentan hacer llegar al oyente, un tema en donde habita muchísima expresividad y muchísimas ganas de agradar, aunque claro eso no quita que esos pasajes y esas atmosferas las hayamos oído hasta la saciedad.

Reconozco que siempre he tenido el Doom/Death griego en un pedestal, los viejunos e incomprendidos Horrified o bandas actuales como Shattered Hope el camino no se hace solo, aunque con los presentes IMMENSITY creo que aún les faltan los codos, las tablas y las ganas de salirse de lo de siempre. Es decir, las canciones son buenas, son emotivas e incluso podríamos decir que son encantadoras pero no respiran esa viveza y ese fuerte carácter propio que si habita y ha fructificado con los años en por ejemplo los mallorquines HELEVORN.

Y sirvan de ejemplo los mencionados ya que el presente álbum podría estar en algún punto del camino entre el “Fragments” y las ganas de conectar los plomos del “Forthcoming Displeasures” (no musicalmente, pero si en el prisma de edificar las canciones) aunque por ahora la iluminación de los griegos aporte el consumo mínimo y los respectivos kilowatios de siempre.

Obviamente tampoco se trata de minimizar el esfuerzo, el buen resultado y la agradable escucha que proporciona el presente álbum, en ese campo destacaría lo bien que defienden los diez minutos de “Eradicate (The Pain Of Remembrance)”, el gran énfasis que arrastran los momentos lentos con sus armonías melódicas y demás requisitos obligados, así como la cantidad de contrastes vocales que van sucediéndose entre sus canciones.

Al que le guste el Doom/Death atmosférico, melódico y a la vez ennegrecido por pasajes más subterráneos, la música de IMMENSITY es un gran primer paso para adentrarse en las presentes sonoridades. En definitivas cuentas, IMMENSITY ofrecen mucho y creo que en el futuro pueden subir ese peldaño que no solo les dé el salto a la profesionalidad indudable sino que les ahogue a perseguir ese ramalazo de carácter propio que les haga salir a flote entre las miles de mareas rutinarias que refrescan el océano por el cual se mueven.

De perseguir este fin, estoy convencido que en futuros trabajos, los helenos IMMENSITY y a su calidad me remito, sabrán encontrar la fórmula para empezar a desenvolverse como pez en el agua.

Il panorama doom-death metal melodico è di anno in anno più affollato, diviene quindi sempre più difficile cogliere impreparati gli abituali fruitori o sorprenderli. In alcune circostanze anzi è capitato purtroppo di deluderli, a causa di un appiattimento della proposta anche a opera di artisti che sinora avevano svolto il mestiere più che bene, ad esempio gli svedesi When Nothing Remains.

Dopo aver pubblicato nel 2012 il demo “The Lonely Aquarelle”, gli ellenici Immensity fanno il proprio debutto all’interno di quest’ambito con “The Isolation Splendour”. Si tratta di un album scolasticamente perfetto sia dal punto di vista dello stile compositivo (non troverete difficoltà a individuare le possibili fonti di ispirazione fra gli storici gruppi britannici degli anni Novanta, compagini provenienti da oltreoceano o realtà alquanto valide di ultima generazione) sia da quello atmosferico ed emotivo, in grado di accaparrarsi la simpatia dell’ascoltatore con semplicità.

Tre brani come “Heartfelt Like Dying”, “The Isolation Splendour” e “Adornment” bastano e avanzano per comprendere quanto e come i Greci abbiano assorbito e fatto proprie le lezioni impartite in passato da coloro i quali hanno modellato e svecchiato il genere. Pur non aggiungendo nulla di nuovo, le sfruttano in maniera attenta e appassionata, con la sapienza di chi è in grado di maneggiarne i tratti distintivi con gusto, inclusi i ben assestati momenti malinconici in cui si affaccia la voce pulita e le sporadiche divagazioni in area progressiva (“The Sullen”), oltrepassando così la barriera del mero esercizio stilistico per capacità e proprietà, tuttavia peccando palesemente di personalità, che avrebbe garantito alla band un pieno riconoscimento.

Gli Immensity conoscono la strada da seguire, eccome se la conoscono, possiamo quindi sperare in lavori ancora più intensi e soprattutto intraprendenti a livello compositivo dell’alquanto gradevole “The Isolation Splendour”? Penso proprio di sì. In attesa che ciò accada, il consiglio è di godervi il piacevole ascolto.

Греческая столичная группа IMMENSITY представляет нам свой дебютный альбом. Семь лет шли греки к своему дебюту и вот наконец-то пришли, заручившись поддержкой российского лейбла. Играют греки атмосферный дум / дэз и длится альбом более часа. Да, дебют удался. Тут двух мнений быть не может. Музыка звучит красиво, не теряя своей тяжести. Вокал разложили на гроул и чистый голос, и последний добавил эпичности музыке команды. Единственный минус замеченный мной тоже относится к чистому голосу. Нет, он не плохой. Просто некоторые фрагменты, когда он звучит, несколько нудноваты. С другой стороны, редкая думовая группа может похвастаться полным отсутствием нудных моментов. Итак, имеем удачный дебютный альбом который можем рекомендовать фанатам таких групп как Novembers Doom, Daylight Dies, My Dying Bride…

Репутация греческого Doom/Death/Black Metal настолько велика, что только упоминание первопроходцев этой сцены вроде Septicflesh, Nightfall или Rotting Christ снимает все вопросы к их последователям. IMMENSITY на своем дебютном альбоме, безусловно, не опозорили своих предтечь, создав прекрасный образец довольно мрачной, но красивейшей музыки. Атмосфера всех семи композиций альбома просто не может оставить равнодушным любого, склонного к невеселым эмоциям, и совершенно очевидно, что перед группой открывается вполне впечатляющие перспективы. Сумеют ли греки этим воспользоваться? Будем с нетерпением ждать следующего альбома, а этот аккуратненько поставим на видное место на полочке с самыми интересными дисками последнего времени.
