Nicht nur aufgrund des Exotenbonus haben Solitude Productions ihre Fühler nach den Brasilianern ABSKE FIDES ausgestreckt, sondern auch, weil die sechs Tracks sowohl mit Subgenre-typischen schweren Riffs und Growls aufwarten, als auch mit ruhigen,
akustischen Gitarrenklängen, die sich im angebluesten Bereich heimisch fühlen. Violinen-Soli und Keyboard-Flächen, die den ausgewogen abgemischten Gesamtsound nicht zerstören, wie es manchmal in diesem Bereich leider der Fall ist, werden dezent zur Schaffung unterschiedlicher Stimmungen eingesetzt. Von den immanenten Doom Trademarks mal abgesehen, wird Abwechslung von ABSKE FIDES ganz groß geschrieben. Die Kunst, Höhepunkte zu schaffen, beherrscht die Band ebenfalls. Für mich sind das «Coldness», mit seiner bluesig postrockigen Note, und das akustisch Grungelastige «Embroided In Reflections»

После двух миников "...Apart of the World" (2006) и "Disenlightment" (2009), бразильская группа под загадочным названием ABSKE FIDES решилась на издание своего дебютного полноформатного альбома с одноименным названием. И хотя материал стал более зрелым и интересным, но отнюдь не революционным в данном жанре. А исполняют бразильцы мрачный doom/death metal с элементами post metal'a. Естественно атмосфера тут печальная и наводит на тоску. Собственно этого наверное и добивались музыканты: погрузить слушателя в бездну отчаянья и заставить его задуматься о бренности нашего бытия. Что ж, им это удалось в полной мере. После прослушивания этого диска, позитива у вас в жизни отнюдь не прибавится.

Brazilian trio Abske Fides ("lack of faith") have changed quite a bit since their funeral doom days, when comparing the band's current self-titled to the 2006 EP days of _...Apart of the World_. Even though the music is still slow and reflective, it has adopted different colours altogether; colours of sludge and post (atmospheric) hardcore, something akin to the process labelmates Reido have undergone. That is to say long instrumental, guitar-driven moments immersed in apocalyptic riffs bearing gigantic tidal waves power, interlaced with high-toned intra-solos and bass-heavy groove reminiscent to early-to-mid era Neurosis. And indeed, some of the tracks own an uncanny resemblance to Neurosis in their angriest, most heavy moments, alongside Neurosis' tranquil (the calmness before the storm) and hypnotic, suspense building technique, where easy going, pedestrian tunes built-up and climax in an all-out maelstrom of anger and bone crushing heaviness.
Incorporating some keyboards and a violin, as well as an occasional female vocalist, Abske Fides showcase on their self-titled debut that they are as fine musicians as they are the purveyors of counter-culture music, what with their progressive rock moments where they sound almost like Pink Floyd in their heydays along side their hardcore-ish, hatred emanating vitriol, still embracing their death metal origins, growls and death metal riffs included. _Abske Fides_ sees a band that's both mature and potent (although not as original as I have hoped them to be), delivering music that is part beautiful and mainstream-ish and part otherworldly robust and dark, but always delivered with a streak of melancholic sadness. A fine product for any rainy day, exceptionally produced and played, for any Neurosis, Opeth, Rorcal and Dirge (the French band) fan out there.

Nazwa zespołu i zarazem tytuł płyty to - jak się już pewnie domyśla większość z Was - zwrot nieanglojęzyczny, który, jak podaje Metal Archives, w przetłumaczeniu nań daje w rezultacie sformułowanie 'Without Faith'. W połączeniu z dość przyzwoitym, acz na pewno w dużej mierze surowym layoutem drukowanej części wydawnictwa, gdzie mrok pięknie konweniuje sobie ze znamionami tzw. działalności ludzkiej i zachmurzonego, szczelnego na wszelkie promienie słoneczne nieba, wylewa to pewien podkład pod nastrój w jaki niewątpliwie wkraczamy słuchając tej płyty. Ale na temat ABSKE FIDES 'Bez Wiary' w sercu pisać jakoś nie mogę, gdyż trzeba przyznać, że pomimo pewnych wad, które i tak nie dla każdego będą minusami wydawnictwa, grupa gra przezacnie. Płytę otwiera bukiet dysonansowo gitarowych dźwięków, które z pewnością nie zachęcą do dalszego słuchania tej części fanów metalowego grania, których sito nie przepuszcza gruboziarnistego i mocno 'niewychuchanego', że tak powiem, brzmienia. Mnie osobiście wstęp z utworu "The Consequence of the Other" przywodzi przykładowo na myśl sposób w jaki otwierał swoje podwoje ostatni długogrający krążek TRIPTYKON i nawiązań do nieśmiertelnej stylistyki szyldów Fischera można tu odnaleźć doprawdy bez liku. Równie wiekuisty zdaje się w tym kontekście wpływ, jaki na współczesnej ciężkiej muzie odcisnął NEUROSIS, gdyż na kontrastach miedzy psychodelicznymi, acz subtelnymi akcentami a 'grubokalibrowym' gitarowym walcowaniem opiera się tu cały album (idealnym przykładem jest wypełniony przygnębiającym klimatem, acz przepiękny "Coldness"). Haczyk polega natomiast na tym, że te pierwsze to niekoniecznie znowuż tak do końca typowy post rock, a te drugie nie domkną za sobą klamry stylistyki sludge metalowej. Nieco prędzej przypomina to już taki 'mroczny kogel mogel', który SEAGULLS INSANE AND SWANS DECEASED MINING OUT THE VOID ubili na swoim debiutanckim albumie. Tak w charakterze ciekawostki nadmienię tu tylko, że gitarzysta ABSKE FIDES podpisuje się pseudonimem 'Nihil', jest to jednak wyłącznie zbieg okoliczności, gdyż zarówno on, jak i reszta członków formacji (odpowiedzialny za sekcję rytmiczną i wokal niejaki Kexo oraz obsługujący takie instrumenty jak gitara, klawisze i skrzypce wokalista Necrophelinthorn) pochodzi z Brazylii. Jak można wywnioskować z tego, co napisałem przed chwilą, muzyka grupy pełna jest wszelakiego rodzaju ozdobników, do których zaliczyć można choćby stricte rockowe solo w "Aesthetic Hallucination of Reality". Płyta nie zalicza się do najkrótszych na świecie, obfitując przy tym w ewidentnie minimalistyczne fragmenty (ambientowo 'przekładany' środek "4.48") i według mnie zespół nie opanował jeszcze w pełni technik walki o uwagę i zainteresowanie słuchacza, które przy takiej stylistyce opanować to wręcz podstawa. Niewiele im jednak tak sumie brakuje, bo na "Abske Fides" odnaleźć można również i chwytliwe momenty (lead w "Won't You Come?" czy dwa ostatnie cięcia: "4.48" i delikatny "Embroided in Reflections"), a tak poza tym, to w moich osobistych oczach, album zyskuje tylko na ilości przesłuchań. Stwierdzenie powyższego faktu prowadzi w prostej linii do konstatacji, że spotkałem się na tym krążku z brzmiącą nieco garażowo, ale i wymagającą, złożoną muzyką, która zdecydowanie pozwala mieć nadzieję na więcej.

ABSKE FIDES is Brazilian band. Hm… I have heard many fans waiting for this album for a long time, but, to be honest, I do not see the reason of this… Since very first song I have got huge portion of some boring doom metal, then, continue listening I have got same emotions… From my point of view, the whole album (6 tracks on about 51 minutes of sounding) sounds a bit boring, even more – not a bit, but completely… I’m very sorry but I didn’t understood good aspects of this record… here is doom metal, but with no anything deep and memorable, just parts of rhythms and various vocals, and that’s all. I didn’t found any soul here, so the whole picture is smthng like slow, soulless stuff…

Antes de nada, debo decir que de entre toda la marabunta de grupos emergentes que quieren darse a conocer en la actualidad, muy muy pocas veces me llevo una impresión tan grata como la que he experimentado con estos brasileños.

Abske Fides son un trío de personalidades multi-instrumentistas que a lo largo de su historia ha estado acompañado de Alex Witchfinder (Thy Light) en el apartado lírico. Con algunas idas y venidas de militantes en sus filas, es la formación actual, compuesta por N., K. y Nihil, la que ha aportado a la banda el confort y equilibrio necesarios para construir sus obras más relevantes, entre las que por supuesto se incluye esta maravilla de disco homónimo.

Un artwork gris, lúgubre y minimalista nos deja entrever pequeños atisbos de las líneas que construyen este trabajo, y digo atisbos porque todo aquello que representa comprende infinitamente más que lo que nuestra mente pueda imaginarse a priori. El continente no hace justicia al contenido, vaya. El apartado lírico orbita entorno a la opresión y la desesperanza con rotaciones agónicas, finalistas, complejas y algo inusitadas; y como no podía ser de otra forma, el contenido musical es un compañero perfecto para todas esas palabras, ya que notas y letras congenian y convergen en la hora de respaldarse mutuamente y de transmitir la misma sensación.

En 'Abske Fides' podemos encontrar desde partes Doom/Death, propias de la escuela inglesa de los 90, acompañadas de Post-Metal y Sludge (“Won’t You Come” y “The Consequence of the Other”), hasta piezas blueseras en conjunción con cánones progresivos y cadencias letárgicas procedentes del Funeral Doom, como en “The Coldness of Progress” y “Aesthetic Hallucination of Reallity”, pasando de puntillas por el Shoegaze de “4.48” y el Post-Rock de “Embroided in Reflections”. Si además aderezamos todo ello con voces melódicas femeninas ocasionales y la melancólica presencia que impone el uso de un violín, este álbum se eleva a una categoría de auténtica maravilla que rompe con los tópicos y levanta consigo, en la medida de lo posible, el listón de calidad del estilo unos cuantos centímetros.

Como ya digo, no recordaba tan buen sabor de boca tras la escucha de un trabajo procedente del completo desconocimiento como el experimentado con 'Abske Fides'. Poco más puedo decir por mi parte... Bueno, un último apunte, probablemente este trabajo sea uno de los frutos más opulentos procedentes de tierra sudamericana desde la irrupción en la escena de las andanzas de los maravillosos y apreciados Mar de Grises. Ahí queda.

Взращённые под палящими лучами солнца, бразильцы Abske Fides долго не могли определиться с жанром по направлению своего пути. Родина весёлых карнавалов, горячих пляжей и жгучих красоток по умолчанию должна настраивать человека на положительные эмоции. Но иногда даже в таком ритме пребывания можно увидеть жизнь в чёрно-белых полосах. Троица то заряжалась блэком (демка "Illness"), то уходила далеко и надолго во фьюнерал ("Apart of the World" и "Disenlightment") и спустя некоторое время на свет появляется первенец, полноформатник - "Abske Fides". Тут уже запахло расчленёнкой. Вот только вычленить отдельные жанровые структуры будет сложновато, да и не требуется этого в целом. Если прогнать одну любую композицию, то вряд ли станет что-либо понятно. Альбом по настоятельному рецепту врача следует слушать исключительно целиком.
Казалось бы, одноименное группе название релиза должно настораживать, ведь, как правило, подобным образом поступают лишь начинающие коллективы, а никак не давно сформировавшиеся банды, но меня уверяет тот факт, что дебютник этот действительно рождение или правильнее будет выразиться – перерождение Abske Fides, ведь предложенное здесь вниманию не укладывается в определённые рамки и совсем не похоже на то, что они творили ранее. Начиная от классических веяний doom/death и заражая его вирусом sludge, заканчивается этот ядовитый коктейль просторами кульминационного post метала c блюзовыми интеграциями и психоделичными отсылками, отправляя нас в хипповые 1970-е года и эпоху Pink Floyd. Воспринимается полученное отравленное зелье со всеми несовместимыми ингредиентами несколько утомительно, сконфуженно и напряжённо, лишь порой смягчают обстановку изредка появляющиеся скрипичные партии и области пост метала, остальное завалено грязным звучанием грозно жужжащих гитар, мерцающим ворчанием баса и среднетемповыми ударными, отчего общий фон в некотором роде кажется хрустящим и только акустические гитарные переливы создают своеобразный пласт мягкого покрытия альбома. Всё это предельно красиво контрастирует с отстранённым женским войсом, чистым мужским вокалом и гроулингом. После чего релиз становится каким-то абстрактным, агрессивным, энергичным и даже в какой-то степени астральным.
В плюсе оказывается удивительное соответствие текстов со звучанием композиций, а монохромная урбанистическая фотография, запечатлённая на обложке, ещё больше располагает к пониманию сути "Abske Fides". Основные идеи о том, как запутавшийся в собственных заблуждениях человек потерялся в депрессии, изоляции, пассивности и апатичном состоянии души, отчаянно пытающийся найти способ избежать самого себя. Знакомая ситуация? Альбом о том, как современный мир влияет на рассудок человека посредством различных психологических расстройств и плохих монстров внутри, о том, как городская суета оставляет свои глубокие следы на психике индивидуума, который осознает всю неспособность реализации себя с наиболее выгодной стороны. Тюрьма современного общества заставляет подчиняться и вместо того, чтобы сопротивляться, он удаляется глубоко в себя, лишь жалуясь и высказывая недовольство. Грубый, холодный, меланхоличный, циничный, угрюмый "Abske Fides" даёт хорошее представление о смысле человеческого отчуждения. Релиз предоставлен Solitude Prod.

Spécialisé dans le domaine du « Doom Métal » depuis quelques années, le label Russe Solitude Productions nous propose sans cesse des enregistrements de bonne facture. Cette fois, il est question d’un trio Brésilien originaire de Sao Paulo nommé ABSKE FIDES, qui nous présente son premier album éponyme composé de six titres pour une durée totale de plus de cinquante minutes. Le combo n’est pas un novice en la matière puisque sa formation remonte en 2003 suivi aussitôt en 2004 d’une démo baptisée « Illness », puis de deux E.P, avec tout d’abord « …Apart Of The World » en 2006 et « Disenlightment » en 2009. Alors, question : avons-nous trouvé le SEPULTURA du « Doom » Brésilien ? Réponse ci-dessous.

Comparer ce trio avec le groupe initial de Max Cavalera serait bien entendu impossible, tant le fossé entre les deux courants musicaux est important. Cependant, lorsque l’on parle de Métal au Brésil on ne peut que considérer la référence nationale, d’autant plus que les combos de « Doom » ne sont pas légion dans cette contrée d’Amérique du Sud.
ABSKE FIDES applique à la lettre les règles du genre, on a droit ainsi à des titres assez longs, variables entre sept et onze minutes, à des ambiances sombres et à des rythmes lourds, bien que la tonalité donnée se révèle légèrement plus aiguë par rapport à d’autres éléments du même répertoire. De même, le chant est assuré de manière contrastée avec, d’un côté une voix claire, et de l’autre, une voix « Death » toutefois moins présente sur la totalité de l’opus. On remarquera par la même occasion la présence du titre « Aesthetic Hallucinations Of Reality » qui figurait déjà sur l’E.P « Disenlightment » et qui s’imbrique parfaitement au reste des compositions. Mais le point fort de la musique des Brésiliens réside dans cette aptitude mélodique instaurée par des passages planants ou par des arpèges comme sur « Coldness », ou « Embroided In Reflections », mais aussi par l’utilisation de violons ou encore par l’apparition de chant féminin sur « Contradiction Of The Other ». Les variations sont nombreuses au sein d’une seule et même chanson, on a parfois du mal à savoir comment définir ce « Doom-Death Mélodique » qui prend de temps à autres des allures progressives. On peut noter plusieurs influences avec notamment des parties lead à la David Gilmour sur « Aesthetic Hallucinations Of Reality », ou encore « Embroided in Reflections », qui rappelle les prémices du « Post-Rock ». On peut toutefois relever des imperfections sur la production, ou devrais-je dire autoproduction. Parfois, les guitares apparaissent un peu trop saturées, à d’autres moments, le volume du chant se montre mixé un peu trop haut. Cependant, les six chansons s’avèrent captivantes en dépit d’une durée conséquente et recèlent d’arrangements intéressants qui ne font aucun doute sur le travail fourni par les musiciens ni même sur leur motivation.

Voilà un album qui fait une entrée remarquée et remarquable, les amateurs du genre ne s’y tromperont pas. Le « Doom Métal » est un courant où les formations ne sont pas fluctuantes et il serait dommage de passer à côté d’un tel groupe qui, même s’il n’apporte aucune nouveauté au genre, a au moins le mérite d’apporter des nuances émouvantes. Groupe prometteur à suivre assurément.

Há quase uma década que os Abske Fides andam a espalhar negrura num país que pouco ou nada deve a essa cor, o Brasil. Após uma abordagem, na sua demo de estreia, mais virada para o black metal de tons depressivos, seguiram-se dois EPs que tinham como mote o funeral doom. Três anos depois de 'Disenlightment', eis o primeiro longa-duração, auto-intitulado, que marca mais uma variação na orientação musical da banda. Agora, prevalece uma abordagem aos temas na linha do death/doom em deterimento das toadas mais funéreas. Isso é bem evidente na faixa de abertura 'The Consequence Of The Other', que na parte final contém uma voz feminina a dar um toque mais belo a esta entrada..
A primeira metade do álbum segue esta linha, numa abordagem quase clássica, a que não faltam o jogo entre growls e vozes limpas e passagens mais agrestes e outras mais contemplativas. 'Aesthetic Hallucination of Reality', incluído no último EP da banda, embora numa versão um pouco mais longa, marca o início de uma perda de rumo da banda, que vai do funeral doom até momentos mais uptempo no mesmo tema, entrando, depois, por caminhos que nos levam ao post-rock de uns Sigur Rós, por exemplo; 'Embroided In Reflections' talvez seja o melhor exemplo.
Não há aqui temas mal executados, mas a falta de um fio condutor é bem notória, fazendo com que este álbum não seja mais do que um conjunto de temas agrupados, sem fazerem grande sentido no cômputo final. O que é uma pena.

Brazilian funeral doom merchants Abske Fides (roughly translated “Without Faith”) bring their first full length album to the table after a couple of well received EP releases. Termed funeral doom, I had slight apprehension before playing this, but I have to report it is not all pure funeral styled, in fact it is doom laden with genre classic influences and a little piece of something different in the varied arrangements. ‘The Consequence of the Other’ is very appealing with its sludge and doom marred by slightly unpleasant gruesome vocals and there are some weird chants towards the end of the tune. It’s not your expected funeral doom track, it is more blackened doom as is highlighted in the following track ‘Won’t You Come’. With such an atmospheric sound with their harmonized vocals this track becomes quite a disturbing prospect, touching but very haunting, Abske Fides have nailed the atmosphere. Guttural heaviness changes the feel completely and the guitar work goes slightly haywire, almost sounding out of key, but it is the pure hypnotic nature of these sounds that keeps you gripped.

‘The Coldness of Progress’ has a very Spanish, a Santana guitar sound at is start that is killed completely when the vocals begin. During the quitter moments in general, I do feel that the feeling of the record is lost, it takes a bout of heavy distortion to kick start ones interest fully. ‘Aesthetic Hallucination of Reality’ totally restores the release and is over 11 minutes in length. The band have their mojo back and for the outstanding track of this release, it is worth the wait. In that sense, you can compare this to latter Nachtmystium clashing with Ahab or Warhorse, but at the end of the day these Brazilian’s would take the prize.

I have spent a great deal of time listening to this release, it does convey most of the possible human emotions, within its genre it is one of the most diverse releases I have heard. I love the fact that I can take away something different with each spin of the disc. This is truly an album for expressive souls, people who have the ability to look beyond mere aggression, thinking man/woman’s music, but that really would not go far enough in describing the listening experience gained with Adske Fides, this is a very personal listening experience.
