Faisons un bond dans le passé. Retour en fin 2014 pour la sortie du second album de ET MORIEMUR, j'ai nommé « Ex Nihilo In Nihilum ». Le groupe de Death/Doom Tchèque continue dans sa lancée en nous proposant un nom d'album en Latin, signifiant plus ou moins ceci : « A partir de rien, à rien ». Pessimiste ? Quand on sait que le nom de la formation veut dire « et nous allons mourir »... Préparez-vous à de la noirceur et de la solitude, voici ET MORIEMUR !
J'ai beaucoup d'a priori concernant le Doom si bien que même si je sais éperdument que j'ai fait de très agréables découvertes au sein de ce style année après année, il me reste tout de même de l'appréhension devant ce nom. Peut-être est-ce la noirceur caractéristique ou bien la lenteur ? Ou peut-être la longueur générale de l'album.. Paradoxalement, cette appréhension me repousse autant qu'elle m'attire et je ne peux me dire qu'un style de musique puisse me résister. Ici, le Doom/Death de ET MORIEMUR m'attire plutôt bien. « Sea Of Trees », première musique de l'album, me convainc et je me laisse attirer vers cet univers. Bon, il faut dire que je n'ai pas choisi le plus « Doom » de tous les groupes. En effet, le côté Death se ressent particulièrement bien laissant un peu de côté la lenteur pachydermique inhérent au genre. Les seuls passages de cette trempe sont répartis à travers les morceaux et donnent un contraste assez intéressant, « Dissolving » en est la preuve. Une autre chose me donne envie de continuer l'écoute, cette chose se trouve au niveau des paroles. En effet, le groupe a choisi d'user de plusieurs langues pour ses compositions. Nous retrouvons donc du japonais, de l'anglais, de l'italien, du tchèque, de l'allemand, du russe et pour nos amis chauvins, du français ! Entendre le chanteur s'exprimer dans ces langues peut prêter quelques fois à sourire, mais je vois surtout une démonstration de la palette impressionnante de sonorités vocales. Et il faut dire que ça rajoute de l'exotisme...
Plus l'écoute avance et plus je me découvre une sorte de passion, mon cerveau fait des raccourcis. Je me prends à comparer ET MORIEMUR à BLACK SUN AEON, « Norvegian Mist » ressemblant étrangement à « Song For My Funeral » et à vrai dire j'aime ce que j'entends.
Plus j'avance dans l'écoute et plus ma chronique devient bordélique. Je ne peux définitivement pas me résoudre à faire du précis et concis avec du Doom. Plus sérieusement, la lenteur de la chose qui auparavant me freinait énormément ne me dérange plus tellement. Au contraire, je me prends à décortiquer les orchestrations du groupe, les différentes subtilités qui apparaissent çà et là, les ambiances... « Nihil » est d'ailleurs un réel exemple de musique travaillée, polie et chromée. Les instruments se retrouvant embarqués dans ce titre sont assez inhabituels dans l'univers Metallique. Nous retrouvons donc un xylophone accompagnant le riff principal et un clavecin se mélangeant lui à ce qu'on peut interpréter comme étant un couplet. Cette combinaison est certes peu habituelle, mais si efficace ! Et que dire de l'outro reprenant le saxophone et ajoutant à celui-ci un piano (classique cette fois) et la batterie ? Une vraie puissance se dégage de ce titre...
Mais si vous ne deviez écouter qu'un seul titre, juste un seul, ce serait « Black Mountain » et ses relents d'ambiant qui est une vraie balade à travers ces monts noirs que l'on nous fait visiter majoritairement en russe. A vous d'aller vous balader maintenant.
Est-ce que ce « Ex Nihilo In Nihilum » sera l'album qui me fera aimer le Doom et ce constamment et non périodiquement ? Pas encore. Par contre, ET MORIEMUR a réussi à me donner envie de me plonger encore un peu plus dans ce genre encore trop méconnu à mon goût. Si quelques redondances m'ont fait me sentir quelque peu gêné, le reste des titres m'ont convaincu. Loin d'être un album cliché, « Ex Nihilo In Nihilum » est aussi bien accessible pour les réticents que pour les puristes. Un régal certes, mais dont il ne faut pas abuser.

Ex Nihilo in Nihilum est le deuxième album des Tchèques de Et Moriemur, sorti en novembre 2014 chez le label russe Solitude Productions, soit trois ans après Cupio Dissolvi, leur premier opus.
La musique pratiquée par les musiciens pragois est un Doom Death mélancolique et raffiné, jouant volontiers sur les alternances en passages typés Doom (en parlant de cela on citera au passage le très typé début de "Dissolving") et séquences plus légères, que celles-ci soient en intro, en outro ou en interlude. Souvent calmes et apaisés, les morceaux basculent également assez souvent dans des séquences plus rythmées, quoique gardant toujours une certaine retenue, ne leur retirant par pour autant tout intérêt. Certains titres bénéficient ainsi de montées en intensité de toute beauté, véritables points d'orgue jouant un grand rôle dans l'intérêt de l'album - on pourrait ainsi citer le splendide final de "Norwegian Mist", ou bien celui de "Le Choix".
Par ailleurs certaines séquences lentes à souhait (l'introduction de "Liebeslied" en est un excellent exemple) viennent régulièrement apporter des touches plus purement et profondément dépressives jouant agréablement avec la mélancolie plus douce présentée sur la majeure partie de l'album.
De manière plus générale, la gestion du rythme est assez intéressante, notamment de par sa capacité à bien mettre en avant les différents atouts et la personnalité de l'album.
Un trait important de la personnalité de l'album à noter est l'usage dans les textes d'extraits d’œuvres d'auteurs tels que Samuel Beckett ou Marina Tsvetaeva, disséminés au sein des morceaux. Le résultat est intéressant: outre l'intérêt apporté par la variété de langages utilisés (ceux-ci sont au nombre de sept, tout de même), ce procédé renforce l'aspect finalement très poétique (au sens premier du terme: qui concerne la poésie) de l'ensemble. Cela est en outre accentué par l'utilisation très importante tout au long de l'album de passages "parlés", déclamés ou murmurés, qui mettent plus en valeur les textes que ne le ferait du chant. Les prétentions littéraires du groupe y gagnent donc beaucoup, ainsi que l'atmosphère de l'album.
Outre cela le chant est essentiellement constitué d'un growl de bonne qualité et s'intégrant bien aux instruments.
Les arrangements au clavier jouent également un rôle important, allant de la calme et mélancolique solennité apportée par les chœurs sur "Sea of Trees", aux orgues de "Dissolving", en passant par les subtiles notes de piano de "Liebeslied" et par les cordes de "Black Mountain", long titre de plus de seize minutes terminant l'album (si l'on excepte la courte piste "Below") enchaînant les séquences diverses avec plus ou moins de bonheur, et souffrant parfois de quelques longueurs.
On pourrait par ailleurs reprocher à l'occasion à ce Ex Nihilo in Nihilum quelques mélodies un peu faciles, ou bien quelques arrangements de cordes moins subtils que la moyenne de l'album. Rien de bien grave cela étant, et les personnes appréciant le genre de personnalité musicale dont fait preuve ici la formation tchèque devraient être satisfaites de ce deuxième album.

"Ex Nihilo in Nihilum", das zweite Album der tschechischen Formation ET MORIEMUR, gehört, soviel sei schon hier verraten, zu den besseren Vertretern des traditionellen, atmosphärischen Death Doom. Nach ihrem eher durchschnittlichen Debüt "Cupio Dissolvi" gelingt es dem Quintett auf "Ex Nihilo in Nihilum" eine ordentliche Schippe draufzulegen und einen reiferen, unterhaltsameren Nachfolger zu präsentieren.
Hierfür hat man an ein paar kompositorischen Stellschrauben gedreht: Zwar verbleibt die Grundausrichtung in einem düsteren Dreieck aus MY DYING BRIDE, SATURNUS und EVOKEN. Aber ET MORIEMUR gehen nun deutlich packender, deutlich selbstständiger zu Werke. Dem getragenen Death Doom werden immer wieder instrumentale Variationen hinzugefügt, was die neun Titel abwechslungsreich macht und kaum Langeweile aufkommen lässt – ein Kunststück, welches vielen Death Doom-Vertretern nicht unbedingt gelingt. Gerade Titel wie "Nihil", das mit einem wuchtigen Schlagzeug und bezaubernden Melodien versehen ist oder das wummernde, basslastige "Le Choix", das von Violine und Orgel getragen wird, sind stark vorgetragene, düstere Hymnen. Über allen Titeln trohnt jedoch der Sechzehn-Minuten-Hammer "Black Mountain", der durch seinen Keyboardeinsatz und eine düster-romantische Grunstimmung stellenweise an die Gothic Metaller TYPE O NEGATIVE erinnert: Daneben kommen MY DYING BRIDE-igeViolinen, Gedicht-Rezitierungen von Samuel Becket und Oswald Henke und ein gerütteltes Maß an starken Gitarrenmotiven zum Einsatz – allein dieser Titel zeigt, dass in ET MORIEMUR mehr steckt als eine bloße Randnotiz im Death Doom-Zirkus. Zwar gibt es immer noch Steigerungsmöglichkeiten: Der Gesang von Frontmann Zedeněk Nevělík wirkt noch immer ein wenig zu hölzern und kantig, um wirklich jederzeit stimmungsangemessen und schmeichelnd ins Ohr zu gehen. Zudem sind nicht alle Titel auf dem fesselnden Niveau der vorgenannten Titel – gerade die ersten Stücke auf dem Album sind ein wenig austauschbar und vorhersehbar geraten.
Dennoch: Eine positive Entwicklung, die die fünf Herren von ET MORIEMUR auf "Ex Nihilo in Nihilum" durchgemacht haben. Für Freunde stimmungsvoller, düsterer Musik absolut einen Durchlauf wert.

Do třetice všeho dobrého. Přesně tohle rčení mě napadlo, když jsem poprvé slyšel novou nahrávku ET MORIEMUR, v současné době jednoznačného tuzemského doommetalového krále, který, při vší úctě k DISSOLVING OF PRODIGY, vystřídal na trůnu někdejší nejvrchnější chmurotvůrce hned svým demem „Lacrimae Rerum“ vydaným vlastním nákladem v roce 2009. Debut „Cupio Dissolvi“ vyšel o dva roky později a upevnil pozici kapely, která na sklonku roku 2014 přišla s albem, které, troufnu si tvrdit, strčí do kapsy většinu žánrových nahrávek nejen roku 2014 a nejen u nás.
ET MORIEMUR mají smůlu, že se narodili o dvacet let později. Kdyby s tak silným materiálem přišli před dvaceti lety v Anglii, byli by dnes velebeni podobně jako MY DYING BRIDE nebo stará ANATHEMA. Ale což, dobrá hudba by se měla prosadit bez ohledu na dobu vzniku, a „Ex Nihilo In Nihilum“ je natolik silné album, že by mělo zaujmout nejen doma, ale i v zahraničí, o což by se měl postarat i silný vydavatel. Ruská firma Solitude je bez debat doomová 1. liga, v jejím katalogu se vyjímá řada zajímavých kapel a ET MORIEMUR jsou podle mě momentálně stájovým černým koněm.
Přitom od posledního alba se v kapele vyměnily tři pětiny sestavy, na svých místech zůstali jen zpěvák Zdeněk a bubeník Datel, všechny strunné nástroje obsluhují nové tváře, tu více (Honza Vaněk – PANYCHIDA, OBLOMOV), tu středně (Aleš Vilingr – GHOST IN THE SHELL, ex-STOLLICE) a tu méně známé (fotograf Karel Kovařík). Ale tři nováčci evidentně skvěle zapadli, na jaře 2014 se kvintet vydal do Hellsoundu, kde nahrál devět skladeb, z toho jednu instrumentální a jednu označenou jako bonus.
Hned od prvních tónů je zřejmé, že ET MORIEMUR ctí stylové zákonitosti, sázejí na pomalá tempa, a tíživou atmosféru, nicméně ve všem tom zmaru probleskují nebojím se napsat až pozitivní vibrace. Alespoň na mě tak působí chytlavá melodie vinoucí se prvním songem bez ohledu na to, zda Zdeněk šeptá, deklamuje, nebo slova chrlí; a když se uchýlí k extrémnímu projevu, kdesi ze ním se ozývá něco na způsob chorálu – a podobnými překvapeními je deska velmi citlivě obohacována neustále. Zajímavé je i to, že kapela sem tam zvýší obrátky a dotkne se ponurého death metalu – i to stihne hned v „Sea Of Trees“. Dvojku „Dissolving“ uvozují majestátní klavírní tóny (na mysl se mi derou SKEPTICISM), které se tu a tam vrací i v průběhu o poznání ponuřejší kompozice, nemající daleko k funeral doomu, ale nikoliv k funeral doomu monotónnímu, ale sakra pestrému. V minimalisticky pojaté „Norwegian Mist“ obstarávají to nejdůležitější čisté kytarové tóny, velmi výrazné momenty tu má i baskytara, a i na řekněme omezených vyjadřovacích prostředcích je vystavěna pevná a interesantní skladba. Když tak „Ex Nihilo In Nihilum“ poslouchám, přijde mi, jako kdybych poslouchal nějaké rozsáhlé dílo z oblasti vážné hudby, všechno mi přijde dokonale promyšlené, skvěle do sebe zapadající a samozřejmě také výborně zahrané. Chvíli se soustřeďuji na kytarové linky, chvíli na
basu, výtečně vykoumané jsou i bicí, které se pochopitelně nikam neženou, ale každý úder má evidentně smysl. Velký podíl na tom, jak desku přijímám, má perfektní zvuk, opravdová pastva pro uši, jen je třeba nahrávku poslouchat v klidu a z aspoň trochu slušného aparátu. Mě sice poslech bavil i z bedýnek u PC z MP3, ale se zážitkem z velkých reprobeden se to nedá vůbec srovnat. Trávím si s ET MORIEMUR večery, pořád něco objevuji, chvíli považuji za vrchol „Nihil“ s dalšími netradičními tóny (úvod obstarávají zvonivé klávesy, skladbou se vine další úchvatná klávesová linka i řada vokálních poloh, včetně jedné takřka strašidelné), pak si myslím, že se nejlépe povedla klipovka „Liebeslied“, ale nakonec propadám kouzlu černé hory – nikoliv země na Balkáně, ale hory nejspíš kdesi v Rusku. Tahle skoro sedmnáct minut trvající paráda mi zpočátku přišla lehce rozháraná, ale zároveň nepřestávala překvapovat. Zdánlivě několikrát spěje k závěru, aby se znovu probrala a uchvátila něčím dalším, přičemž za mistrovské se nebojím označit party violy kooperující s dalšími dech beroucími melodiemi v podání kytar.
Samostatnou kapitolu pak tvoří texty. Už na minulých nahrávkách si Zdeněk (ač není v bookletu uveden jako textař, předpokládám, že jsou texty hlavně v jeho režii) vybíral úryvky z děl jiných autorů a vsouval je do svých myšlenek; stejný model je použitý i tentokrát, a samozřejmě jsou citace v originálních verzích, takže zazní nejen kapelní angličtina, ale i vypůjčená (Samuel Beckett), dále latina (Giacomo Leopardi), němčina (Oswald Henke, Padberg/Worgt), francouzština (Maurice Maeterlinck) a ruština (Marina Cvětajevová), část textu v první skladbě je snad japonsky (?) a sem tam se objevuje i čeština, ale ta už je dílem ET MORIEMUR. Témata jsou zřejmá a vycházejí z překladu názvu kapely, který znamená „všichni zemřeme“. Takže smrt a trable s ní související...
Ke všemu ladí i pěkný booklet, v němž nechybí žádné důležité informace ani fotky kapely, grafika je střídmá a očím libá. Na titulní straně je použita skulptura nazvaná Ex Nihilo, která zdobí washingtonskou národní katedrálu, a sousoší vířících postav do mozaiky „Ex Nihilo In Nihilum“ stylově zapadá.
P.S. Dovolím si doporučit pozorný poslech alba večer nebo v noci, jen za svitu svíček, nebo potmě. Dojem bude mnohem silnější, než za světla nebo nedej čert při nějaké jiné činnosti...

Do třetice všeho dobrého. Přesně tohle rčení mě napadlo, když jsem poprvé slyšel novou nahrávku ET MORIEMUR, v současné době jednoznačného tuzemského doommetalového krále, který, při vší úctě k DISSOLVING OF PRODIGY, vystřídal na trůnu někdejší nejvrchnější chmurotvůrce hned svým demem „Lacrimae Rerum“ vydaným vlastním nákladem v roce 2009. Debut „Cupio Dissolvi“ vyšel o dva roky později a upevnil pozici kapely, která na sklonku roku 2014 přišla s albem, které, troufnu si tvrdit, strčí do kapsy většinu žánrových nahrávek nejen roku 2014 a nejen u nás.
ET MORIEMUR mají smůlu, že se narodili o dvacet let později. Kdyby s tak silným materiálem přišli před dvaceti lety v Anglii, byli by dnes velebeni podobně jako MY DYING BRIDE nebo stará ANATHEMA. Ale což, dobrá hudba by se měla prosadit bez ohledu na dobu vzniku, a „Ex Nihilo In Nihilum“ je natolik silné album, že by mělo zaujmout nejen doma, ale i v zahraničí, o což by se měl postarat i silný vydavatel. Ruská firma Solitude je bez debat doomová 1. liga, v jejím katalogu se vyjímá řada zajímavých kapel a ET MORIEMUR jsou podle mě momentálně stájovým černým koněm.
Přitom od posledního alba se v kapele vyměnily tři pětiny sestavy, na svých místech zůstali jen zpěvák Zdeněk a bubeník Datel, všechny strunné nástroje obsluhují nové tváře, tu více (Honza Vaněk – PANYCHIDA, OBLOMOV), tu středně (Aleš Vilingr – GHOST IN THE SHELL, ex-STOLLICE) a tu méně známé (fotograf Karel Kovařík). Ale tři nováčci evidentně skvěle zapadli, na jaře 2014 se kvintet vydal do Hellsoundu, kde nahrál devět skladeb, z toho jednu instrumentální a jednu označenou jako bonus.
Hned od prvních tónů je zřejmé, že ET MORIEMUR ctí stylové zákonitosti, sázejí na pomalá tempa, a tíživou atmosféru, nicméně ve všem tom zmaru probleskují nebojím se napsat až pozitivní vibrace. Alespoň na mě tak působí chytlavá melodie vinoucí se prvním songem bez ohledu na to, zda Zdeněk šeptá, deklamuje, nebo slova chrlí; a když se uchýlí k extrémnímu projevu, kdesi ze ním se ozývá něco na způsob chorálu – a podobnými překvapeními je deska velmi citlivě obohacována neustále. Zajímavé je i to, že kapela sem tam zvýší obrátky a dotkne se ponurého death metalu – i to stihne hned v „Sea Of Trees“. Dvojku „Dissolving“ uvozují majestátní klavírní tóny (na mysl se mi derou SKEPTICISM), které se tu a tam vrací i v průběhu o poznání ponuřejší kompozice, nemající daleko k funeral doomu, ale nikoliv k funeral doomu monotónnímu, ale sakra pestrému. V minimalisticky pojaté „Norwegian Mist“ obstarávají to nejdůležitější čisté kytarové tóny, velmi výrazné momenty tu má i baskytara, a i na řekněme omezených vyjadřovacích prostředcích je vystavěna pevná a interesantní skladba. Když tak „Ex Nihilo In Nihilum“ poslouchám, přijde mi, jako kdybych poslouchal nějaké rozsáhlé dílo z oblasti vážné hudby, všechno mi přijde dokonale promyšlené, skvěle do sebe zapadající a samozřejmě také výborně zahrané. Chvíli se soustřeďuji na kytarové linky, chvíli na
basu, výtečně vykoumané jsou i bicí, které se pochopitelně nikam neženou, ale každý úder má evidentně smysl. Po debutu „Cupio Dissolvi”, který vyšel v roce 2011 pod hlavičkou časopisu Pařát, jsme se koncem minulého roku dočkali novinky pod názvem „Ex Nihilo In Nihilum“. O tom, že kapela má co nabídnout, svědčí již umístění na druhém místě v kategorii Objev roku 2011 cen Břitva. Její tvorba je však vševypovídající.
Doom metal, který obohacují o moderní a velmi osobité prvky, není ani zdaleka hudbou pro každého. Ponurou atmosféru a texty o postupném a naprostém zániku všeho živého je třeba vnímat naplno, v poklidu. Procházíme ztemnělým prostorem a pozorujeme, jak kolem nás ubíhá čas svým tempem, které nemůžeme ovlivnit. Vše má svůj nevyhnutelný konec, který se postupně blíží a hrozí svou blízkostí. Hodiny na kostelní věži odbíjí půlnoc, myšlenky bloudí v nejtemnějších zákoutích a odkrývají skryté touhy, emoce a stesky. Člověk se noří do minulosti a zároveň je ztracen v současnosti a obavách z temné budoucnosti. Přesně v ten okamžik nastoupí nový rozměr a rozehraje další z představení lidského, natolik bezvýznamného, života. Nechybí ani něžné, poetické a teskné části... Smrt je nevyhnutelná.

V rámci klasických vlivů, kráčí kapela ve šlépějích takových jmen jako MY DYING BRIDE, PARADISE LOST, či starší tvorbě ANATHEMY. K tomu všemu však přidává značnou dávku osobitosti, díky které je nezaměnitelná a na české hudební scéně tvoří špičku toho nejlepšího a to nejen v rámci doom metalu. Pečlivě vystavené a stupňované skladby navozují pocit smutku a velmi pečlivý vokál dávkuje správnou porci nihilismu přesně v pravý okamžik. Zároveň je právě on tím hlavním poznávacím znamením, díky kterému si nemůžete ET MORIEMUR s nikým splést. Naléhavost a bolest je cítit v každém proneseném verši až mrazí. Párkrát je možné zaslechnout i čistý
zpěv.
Hudební linka je nápaditá a nepůsobí v žádných ohledech nudně. I na několikerý poslech je stále co objevovat a nenalezneme zde ani náznaky sklouzávání k monotónnosti. To vše korunuje mistrovský um všech členů, kteří jsou sehraní ve všech ohledech. Nahrávka je opatřena obalem, který lahodí oku a navozuje patřičnou atmosféru. Neprozrazuje z ní však tolik, jak by se na první pohled mohlo zdát.
První „Sea of Trees“ je velmi příjemným úvodem do celého alba. Po úvodních tónech nabízí chytlavou a velmi zapamatovatelnou melodii už na první poslech. Postupem času se od šeptaného textu dostaneme po drsné kytarové riffy, které korunuje surový vokál. Neskutečnou nádherou je přes šestnáct minut trvající skladba „Black Mountain“, která je nabitá vším, co kapela nabízí. Po jejím poslechu získá posluchač naprosto přesnou představu o tom, jaký je zbytek alba.
Sehranost a duševní souznění je cítit z každého tónu. Při prvním poslechu jsem měla doslova husí kůži a emoce mě zalévaly jako přílivová vlna, která se neodplavila ani po hodině poslechu desky. Dokázala se mi natolik usadit v hlavě, že stačilo spustit opětovně play na přehrávači a byla opět tu. Po dalších posleších se mi zavrtala do hlavy tak hluboko, že mě její tóny provázejí každým dnem a odtikávají i můj život. Vše je pomíjivé, ne však nesporná kvalita této nahrávky, která neskončí v propadlišti dějin a jejíž jméno, doufám, poroste a dostane se do širšího povědomí. I když hudba ET MORIEMUR není pro široké masy, je neskutečně kvalitní a pozornost si zaslouží. Díky tomu si jistě najde svoje fanoušky, mezi které se rozhodně řadím...

Doom metal is a genre which, arguably, has atmosphere as an elevated importance which is placed as high as the music itself. There are few musicians or bands which are able to maintain a balance between these two in their arrangements, especially whilst maintaining a clear and commendable production.
It is Et Moriemur, with their release 'Ex Nihilo In Nihilum' (Latin: 'From Nothing into Nothing'), who are able to merge atmosphere, production and music in a most splendid way. It is easy to compare this record with bands like Tiamat and Saturnus because of its heavy guitar riffs layered with sombre melodies and soft, but dark passages beneath spoken or whispered verses. When the vocals are delivered outside of a spoken word style, they are very deep, low and respectable growls or the occasional mid-range growl or scream.
This is a record which, without doubt, deserves to be labelled as 'Doom Metal'. Between heavy, chugging guitar riffs are grim, slow and dark phrases which bend and resonate organically with the rest of the instruments. The drums of this album are deep and echo with dense reverb and fit well in accordance with the production in its entirety. The emotions set in the music are felt every time a string is struck, a drum hit, and a word voiced. Nearly every aspect of the production is beneficial to clarity and atmosphere, as if one could feel the band performing immediately before his or her self.
The composition of this album is prominent for being unique and rather interesting compared to other metal bands, even in Doom or Black Metal. This is quite refreshing for it adds a progressive element to the music without endeavouring to separate themselves completely simply for the sake of segregation.
Many of the tracks are consistent in style but there are two which stand out from the rest. The song ‘Black Mountain’ is notable for its great length compared to the rest of the songs - which are an average of six minutes - at sixteen minutes. This particular track shares thick and gloomy measures with soft and even beautiful melodies which are outside of Metal. The album regularly utilises multiple instruments inset within the music, including memorable piano and string descants. 'Black Mountain' makes use of a certain theme wherein these instruments - without the power of the drums, guitar and bass riffs - are written to create a sense of serenity betwixt the crushing metal orchestrations. It is also notable for being largely absent of vocal lines, especially during the calmer phases. The next most notable track is 'Below' which is not a Metal track, quite mellow and is very short; less than two minutes.
Nevertheless, there are some concerns I have regarding this LP, albeit few. The vocals are generally well recorded, but when the lyrics are whispered the frequencies are not adjusted and this results in sharp frequencies which can be a bit disrupting whilst listening to the music. Some other parts of the record also contain irregular sharper frequencies but these do not quite distract from the music in the way the whispered vocals do. And as I’ve mentioned before, the track 'Below' is the white crow of the album and I am not certain whether it truly fits in with the rest of the songs or not and it seems to unfasten the impact which the other songs have delivered.
Apart from these petty concerns of mine, I am sure that this is an album which I, and likely numerous others, shall listen to often. This album is memorable for not only its well written cantus, but because of its respect towards the significance of atmosphere in its production.

If you want to listen to some mellow, elegant doom of the easy-listening kind, this album might be right up your alley. It's well crafted, it's atmospheric enough, and it is interestingly structured. You know the drill: overly romantic, thematically existential, having familiar melodies, long spoken parts, some growls, some violins, a piano and a dark ambient piece.
These Czechs are all over the place, running sideways like busy ants, painting this musical canvas and covering its entirety without leaving one single piece of cloth untouched by sonic paint as if being inflicted by a sudden sense of horror vacui -- Czech-style. Et Moriemur leap from funeral doom to gothic doom to neoclassical, through many other aesthetics that stand in the way of this massive freight train. The result is fascinating, because so many styles come rushing into the listener's ear in a given time unit, and yet, this band seem to muster any aesthetic they touch with high-class proficiency.
They are excellent in playing doom/death, funeral doom, gothic doom, the romantic shit and are familiar with virtually every cliché related to the heavier side of doom metal, bar none (sans sludge and stoner). So while their emotive aspects are a tad plastic-made and don't sound as genuine as needed, the band compensate for their lack of real emotions (or the faulty conveying of such), with something else: their song writing talent, evident in abundance through every track. The melancholy is there, embedded into every sound, but somehow this album lacks an extra punch of emotion; these sentiments, it so badly in need of, would be able to transcend the album from the mundane into the divine. People like this reviewer would rather sacrifice the polished production on the altar of a more genuinely pronounced emotional effort; an effort that is able to infuse those plastic emotions with a shot of organic, biologically viable and vibrant human sentiments. Then and there we can all sit down -- and weep together.

If you want to listen to some mellow, elegant doom of the easy-listening kind, this album might be right up your alley. It's well crafted, it's atmospheric enough, and it is interestingly structured. You know the drill: overly romantic, thematically existential, having familiar melodies, long spoken parts, some growls, some violins, a piano and a dark ambient piece.
These Czechs are all over the place, running sideways like busy ants, painting this musical canvas and covering its entirety without leaving one single piece of cloth untouched by sonic paint as if being inflicted by a sudden sense of horror vacui -- Czech-style. Et Moriemur leap from funeral doom to gothic doom to neoclassical, through many other aesthetics that stand in the way of this massive freight train. The result is fascinating, because so many styles come rushing into the listener's ear in a given time unit, and yet, this band seem to muster any aesthetic they touch with high-class proficiency.
They are excellent in playing doom/death, funeral doom, gothic doom, the romantic shit and are familiar with virtually every cliché related to the heavier side of doom metal, bar none (sans sludge and stoner). So while their emotive aspects are a tad plastic-made and don't sound as genuine as needed, the band compensate for their lack of real emotions (or the faulty conveying of such), with something else: their song writing talent, evident in abundance through every track. O druhém albu ET MORIEMUR toho bylo napsáno už docela dost a osobně si nejsem jist, jestli jsem schopen do mlýna přispěchat ještě s nějakou zdrcující novinkou. Zároveň se musím přiznat k tomu, že album jsem měl „pod kůží“ už v době jejího digitálního šíření, ovšem až v těchto dnech, si ji díky Solitude Productions mohu vychutnat hezky z CD. Jójó, je to vpravdě poslech plný skvělé muziky a dokonce bych si dovolil tvrdit, že od dob kulminace severomoravské líhně tu nebyla kapela, která by byla schopna převzít štafetový kolík takto hodnotným způsobem (tímto i čest dalšímu českému zástupci QUERCUS).
Přes všechny komplimenty však „Ex Nihilo In Nihilum“ není rozhodně album, nad kterým bude plesat většina posluchačů a dokonce si dovolím tvrdit, že některým bude třeba i ležet v žaludku. Ale co je na tom všem tak pěkného, když se v podstatě jedná „jen“ o roky prověřený doom metal? Odpověď je snadná. ET MORIEMUR mají patent na vytváření vznešených kompozic, umí je načesat tak, aby byly co nejpříjemnější doomově založenému publiku a vlastně vycházejí i z jakéhosi fanouškovství – zkrátka dělají hudbu takovou, kterou by za určitých okolností dokázali poslouchat od ostatních kapel. Inspirace mnohými veličinami je zde sice markantní, ovšem ne až tak často se z toho dá vysekat přednost v takovéhle míře, jako je tomu právě u ET MORIEMUR.
Et MoriemurJak už jsem výše uvedl, v hudbě ET MORIEMUR cítím i jistou spojitost s tradiční severomoravskou líhní a je rozhodně skvělé, že i samotná kapela se k tomuto odkazu hrdě hlásí. Celá nahrávka byla navíc jmenována památce Rendy „Fusatého“ Krystyna, lídra DISSOLVING OF PRODIGY, jež v roce 2013 na vždy opustil náš svět. Jistou spojitost pak lze nalézt i ve skladbě „Dissolving“, vskutku mimořádné kompozici, ze které opravdu mrazí. Oněch vrcholů je však na desce ještě mnohem víc, a když nad tím tak přemýšlím, tak bych z celé kolekce nevyřadil ani jednu položku. Každá má své kouzlo, atmosféru, a přestože je hudba ET MORIEMUR tempově neměnná, i tak jsou jednotlivé kompozice naprosto členité, přičemž určitou pikanterii v sobě nese víc jak čtvrthodinová elegie „Black Mountain“. Není nic krásnější, než si vzít dovolenou, nalít si víno a mít čas si tenhle skvost v klidu a míru vychutnat…
„ Ex Nihilo In Nihilum“ je vskutku velké album. S hrdostí Čechovi vlastní, jedná se opravdu o českou kapelu, které se nyní otevírají brány do širého světa. Solitude Productions myslím neprohloupili, když vsadili právě na tuhle talentovanou partu umělců. Jsem sám zvědav, jestli se ET MORIEMUR za několik málo týdnů dočkají pozlacené Břitvy, případně Anděla v kategorii Hard And Heavy. V jejich případě není nic nemožné!

Революцию в жанре чехи, конечно, не делают, ибо тут на диске запечатлён далеко не шедевр, но послушать под настроение можно. Все атрибуты такого жанра как doom/death metal, тут соблюдены предельно точно, а это значит, что вряд ли диск “Ex Nihilo in Nihilum” разочарует всех приверженцев данного стиля. Девять треков длиною почти в час подарят вам целый спектр настроений, где главным, конечно же, будет грусть и печаль.

Heeft u wel eens een zwarte periode? Van die dagen dat alles even teveel is en u zich zó neerslachtig voelt dat u eventjes uit de buurt blijft van het spoor, bruggen en hoge gebouwen? Luister dan niet naar Ex Nihilo in Nihilum van Et Moriemur. De kans is aanwezig dat de muziek van de Tsjechen nèt dat zetje geeft voor een laatste reis. Want wát een droeftoeterij brengt het gezelschap op deze plaat. Een uur lang weet dit vijftal al uw optimisme en levensvreugde vakkundig te slopen.
‘Et moriemur’ betekent ‘En wij zullen sterven’. ‘Ex nihilo in nihilum’ laat zich vertalen met ‘vanuit het niets naar het niets toe’. Voldoende bewijzen om aan te tonen dat we hier met death doommetal van het zuiverste soort te maken hebben. Zdeněk Nevělík kreunt, praat, kermt en grunt zich het album door. Helemaal accentloos gaat dat niet maar hij geeft zo overtuigend het gevoel dat hij alle leed van de wereld met zich meedraagt dat je al na een paar nummers niets liever wilt doen dan een arm om zijn schouder slaan en een kop chocolademelk drinken op een bankje voor de open haard. Tekstueel behaalt Et Moriemur niet altijd het hoogste niveau (met strofes als ‘In the end, nothing will remain’ en ‘Is this all there is?’ worden de clichés flink van stal gehaald) maar dat doet niets af aan de kracht van deze band.
Voor liefhebbers van het genre is Et Moriemur’s tweede simpelweg verplichte kost. Luister bijvoorbeeld maar naar het magistrale, zestien minuten durende Black Mountain. De Tsjechen hebben met Ex Nihilo in Nihilum een knappe, onderhoudende plaat weten te realiseren zonder al te veel van de traditionele paden af te wijken. Dit is gewoon doommetal in optima forma. Droefenis gegarandeerd!
