In our endless quest to push and support current underground acts that perpetuate the odor of vintage Death Metal, Memento Mori summons yet another ponderous beast from the crypts and unleashes it upon mankind: the debut album of Poland's Martyrdoom, "Grievous Psychosis". Conceived in Warsaw back in 2010, the band went through some lineup changes until they established a solid formation in 2014, including Sociak (vocals), Marol (guitar), Młynar (guitar / vocals), Artz (bass) and Wasyl (drums). Blending complex, blast-beat driven, darkened Death Metal with slow Doom passages, the band draws its main influences from the likes of Obituary, Immolation, Rippikoulu, Autopsy, Demilich, Triptykon, Cannibal Corpse, Incantation, Hooded Menace, Grave, Disma and Dead Congregation, but they spew all those influences out with renewed vigor. As far as non-musical inspirations go, their lyrics mostly revolve about old school horror/gore movies, personal struggles and the works of H.P. Lovecraft. Bloodthirsty and dripping with menace, these Poles armed with a thorough knowledge of ancient Death Metal create something vile and unearthly. Eschewing all trends, Martyrdoom trudge defiantly, blasting their noxious blend of Death Metal and Doom Metal music, urging cohorts to surrender to them at once. Eight tracks of visceral mayhem are channelled through what sounds like cavernous labyrinths and are as unrelenting as they are haunting. “Omgeving” is an experimental musical project from Dutch musician Franck Johanson (Distillator) where the listener is meant to interpret the sound as auditory landscapes, every texture part of a broader perception that has been created. The stunning debut full-length by this Australian band. Hailing from Sydney, Horrisonous formed in late 2015 and comprise a handful of hardened members of the local underground scene, including past or current members of such acts as Temple Nightside, Backyard Mortuary, The Slow Death, Illimitable Dolor and Pestilential Shadows among others. Not surprisingly, Horrisonous deliver aural slime, decay and misery by means of the ageless brand of Death Metal that's equally ponderous, crushing and fervent, enhanced with slithering tempos and influenced by the likes of Bolt Thrower, Asphyx, Autopsy, Death, early Paradise Lost, Celtic Frost, Carcass, Dismember and Incantation. They proved it on their debut EP, "The Plague Doctors", in 2016 and they proved it with the Asphyx and Celtic Frost covers comprising the follow-up "The Plague Doctors B-sides" EP two years later, and they fully prove it with their debut full-length, "A Culinary Cacophony". A cursory glance at some of the album's song titles ("Crispy Chunks of the Obese", "Nourishment Through Excrement", "Number of the Feast"...) and one could potentially assume Horrisonous are a hokey gore band. While their noses are no doubt in tune with life's foulest recesses, Horrisonous are deadly serious about their juggernauting Death Metal. Requisitely filthy as any Memento Mori release, "A Culinary Cacophony" digs deeply into the doom and serves up serious helpings of up-tempo gallop and blast. It's a world-eating sound that evokes a creepiness quite at odds with such otherwise tongue-in-cheek titles, but only Horrisonous know the methods to their madness... Brazenly adorned with garishly gruesome cover art courtesy of Rod Scott, Horrisonous offer a symphony of sickness with "A Culinary Cacophony"!

All journeys have an end... There are many bands out there that have passed their expiration date. There are several reasons for this, and I am not judging, I am just stating a fact. Whether they are fueled by different parts of passion for music, validation of the self, social constructions, money, fame, or shared ideas of what music is really about, a machine as a band cannot function without fuel. Or purpose. When a machine like Anachronaeon, which is a product of passion alone, finds that the main operator don't feel motivated to develop its functions anymore regardless of factors like fame, money etc (which we never really had, and never was a factor for the existence of the band), it seems only sensible to put it in a museum once and for all. Fact is that I have lived and breathed Anachronaeon for many years together with Andreas (started playing together in 2000, as Anachronaeon since 2003), but also now with Balk and Kenneth. I have always been the supplier of material. Writing songs and the creative process within this was always the main thing that made me return to the guitar. I was never keen on playing songs written by others, or touring for that matter. Anachronaeon's sparse live career is a sign of that. Truthfully it's been a long time since I played the guitar just for the fun of it. And for a band that only has passion as fuel, ultimately it has come to an end. I am proud as hell of the songs on this album. They are a product of hard work and determination. It was like a second job writing them, since I took every wednesday off from work for a time to make them happen. I certainly do not regret this. The songs are in my opinion the best I have written, and the production (mainly thanks to Balk) is the best we have ever had on an album. But I could never repeat this procedure again. Because the fun in the equation was lost somewhere along the way. When I thought about quitting a while back now, it suddenly felt like a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders. No matter how hard it was to tell the guys (especially Andreas, given our long history as a duo), it felt right! Now I don't know how you guys feel about this, but for me it really is a huge thing, and surely I had doubts back and forth for short periods of time making this decision. I don't know if I will pick up the guitar again somewhere along the line, but if I do I'm gonna do it because I want to and because it feels like fun! Since I usually write everything Balk, Andreas and Kenneth will not continue with Anachronaeon, but I bet that they will keep on playing music in some constellation. We decided to complete the album and release it for free as a ”thank you" to all of you who show interest in Anachronaeon, and to go out with a bang! In a way Anachronaeon's spirit will live on. We still have cds of the old albums to sell, and I will keep handing the administration of the legacy of the band to make sure that so many people as possible will get to the hear our work. So, we would like to thank you for supporting us! Spread this album far and wide, share it with friends and enjoy it! После выхода пятого альбома "Assembly" Liv Kristine уволили из группы в 2003-м году, заменив на Nell Sigland (ex-THE CREST, ex-THE COVENANT), с которой THEATRE OF TRAGEDY выпустили два последних полноформатника "Storm" (2006) и "Forever Is the World" (2009). "Assembly" - пятый полноформатный альбом THEATRE OF TRAGEDY, вышедший в марте 2002-го на Nuclear Blast. Это последний студийный релиз группы с Лив Кристин в качестве вокалистки. Российский pagan metal проект Сивый Яр, решил не торопиться с выпуском новых трэков, а вместо этого представил альбом, с ранним творчеством. Новый релиз содержит треки 2008 – 2010 годов, но в отличие от своего предшественника, альбом получился более целостным и разнообразным. По большей части, здесь представлен классический pagan black metal, иногда с элементами death metal в духе раннего творчества шведских групп. Обложку релиза украшает работа великого русского художника Ивана Соколова «Ночь на Ивана Купалу», которая, наравне с доносящейся из динамиков музыкой, подчеркивает лейтмотив сохранения славянских традиций в современных условиях изменяющегося социума.

THEATRE OF TRAGEDY - ныне распавшаяся норвежская gothic metal группа, основанная в 1993-м году и оказавшая сильное влияние на современную gothic metal сцену своими ранними работами. Первоначально группа собралась под названием SUFFERING GRIEF и наличие женского вокала не планировалось, но почти сразу SUFFERING GRIEF сменили на LA REINE NOIR, а чуть позже на THEATRE OF TRAGEDY, когда в составе появилась вокалистка Liv Kristine для записи одной песни (все сложилось так удачно, что она стала постоянным участником). В дискографии группы немалое количество синглов, EP, компиляций, пара концертников и бокс-сэт, а также семь полноформатных альбомов. После выхода пятого альбома "Assembly" Liv Kristine уволили из группы в 2003-м году, заменив на Nell Sigland (ex-THE CREST, ex-THE COVENANT), с которой THEATRE OF TRAGEDY выпустили два последних полноформатника "Storm" (2006) и "Forever Is the World" (2009). "Musique" - четвертый полноформатный альбом THEATRE OF TRAGEDY, вышедший в октябре 2000-го года на Nuclear Blast. Данное переиздание от AFM Records (вышедшее 11-го декабря 2020-го) прошло ремастеринг от Якоба Хансена (EPICA, FLOTSAM AND JETSAM, SIRENIA) и выполнено в формате 2CD с 16-страничным буклетом. Бонусный CD включает ранее не выпускавшуюся версию альбома.

The highly anticipated 2nd full-length by this Russian band. Hailing from Nizhny Novgorod and formed in February 2013, Wombripper have ever since leaned towards the Swedish school of Death Metal with raw, crunchy buzzsaw guitars and straightforward compositions. Highly influenced by Grave, Entombed and Dismember, their first demo, "Morbid Aberrations", was recorded and released in 2014, and the band shared the stage with some of the genre's milestones such as Necrophobic, Nominon and Fleshcrawl, and also newer underground acts such as Undergang, Nocturnal Witch, etc. After several lineup changes, the 4-track EP "Infected Tomb" was recorded and self-released by the band in 2017. That same year, Wombripper recorded their debut album, "From the Depths of Flesh", which was released in 2018 by different labels, such as Redefining Darkness Records (U.S.A.) and Grotesque Sounds (Russia). "From the Depths of Flesh" gained them lots of positive feedback from the media and old school Death Metal fans alike, as the album displayed some top-notch Swedeath, an aural massacre featuring plenty of catchy and morbid melodies, blazing solos and blasting devastation. Now scaled back to a 3-piece, Wombripper put the power in power-trio with their crushing second album, "Macabre Melodies". Ever aptly titled, "Macabre Melodies" is both macabre to the max as well as melodic -in a most macabre manner! Wombripper are nothing if not maniacs devoted to pure 90's Death Metal, and that vintage aspect rings proud and true here, adding to (but never subtracting from) the iron-clad foundation laid down by Dismember back then, keeping the guitars gutsfucking and incredibly tuneful, with hummable tunes you simply won't be able to get out of your head. But lest anyone linger under the assumption that "melodic" equates to some weakening aspect, fuck right off here: Wombripper are not named that for no reason, and "Macabre Melodies" encapsulates and then eclipses their no-less-righteous prior recordings, making for the band's apex to date and all without sacrificing an ounce of crush or credibility. TodoMal (translates as “all evil” or “all wrong”) came to life in the year zero of our era, 2020, as the brain child of Wildman and Mile, two veteran multi-instrumentalists of the Spanish underground (and not only) metal scene, whose extensive background goes back to a myriad of projects of multiple styles. TodoMal is the product of serendipity, a personal combination of the solemnity of traditional doom metal with the profusion of space-rock. TodoMal's backdrop is the vast, placid and depressing desolate wasteland of the north of the Alcarria region, in the so-called "uninhabited rural Spain''. It evokes a place halfway between the Mancha of Don Quixote, the film Los Santos Inocentes, the realism of the Generation of '98, the ecclesiastical baroque, films such as Buñuel's Simon of the Desert, etc. Imagine Candlemass and Pink Floyd having a drunken brawl over some cheap wine and then writing an album to make amends... The result could well be 'Ultracrepidarian', the first work of TodoMal, a 38-minute journey made up of seven hypnotic tracks full of contrasts and surprises, a mix of gloomy decadence and forceful riffs plagued by exciting and epic passages of enveloping keyboards. Покинув METALLICA, Dave Mustaine записал со своей новой группой этот альбом, наполнив его хаотичными и драйвовыми риффами и молниеносными соло. Возможно, этому альбому и не хватает немного композиционного лоска более поздних и зрелых работ MEGADETH, зато в музыку вложено столько энергии, что она просто вырывается из проигрывателя наружу (не забудьте заземлить аппаратуру!) И пусть вас не удивляет подозрительное сходство песни Mechanix с металликовской "The Four Horsemen" - просто авторы (Hetfield/Mustaine) так и не поделили ее на две группы, благодаря чему теперь, 20 лет спустя, мы можем делать осторожные догадки, что бы было с Metallica, если бы мистер Mustaine пил тогда чуть меньше... Хотя история учит, что все, что ни делается, все к лучшему.

RAPTURE, конечно не изобрели этот стиль, PARADISE LOST и KATATONIA своими лаврами не поделятся, но то, что "Silent Stage" внесет свой вклад в развитие жанра, вряд ли у кого-нибудь вызовет сомнения. Тем более, что лица музыкантов RAPTURE оказываются до боли знакомыми: тут и Samuel Ruotsalainen (FINNTROLL, SHAPE OF DESPAIR), и Tomi Ullgren (SHAPE OF DESPAIR), и Sami Hinkka (ENSIFERUM). Эти ребята сделать плохой альбом просто неспособны.

After a lengthy hiatus, Nordicwinter came back in a big way in 2020, releasing two new full-length albums "Requiem" and "Desolation" and they show no sign of slowing down as they hit us once again with a new full-length album, "Sorrow", released amidst the dead of winter. This prolificacy should in no way be a harbinger of doubt as the quality of "Sorrow" surpasses even the heights of the 2020 records and raises Nordicwinter to the upper tier of Canadian Depressive / Atmospheric Black Metal. As with its previous records, "Sorrow" examines the darker side of the human condition through somber and melancholic music. Sticking at a mostly mid-tempo pace, the tracks on "Sorrow" (with the exception of the outro) are all between 7-10 minutes in length, and flow with sense and purpose across the record. Meanwhile, the drums and bass provide the necessary backing throughout the record, staying simple but remaining audible and a fundamental part of the album's sound.

Originally formed in Madrid in 2007 as a new project from members of the seasoned bands Glow, Autumnal and Adrift, the band quickly developed their own identity and gained popularity, leading to their 2009 debut album "The Call of Shiva" being chosen as the best unsigned record by the readers of Terrorizer magazine. Gaining momentum with their next two full-lengths (2011's "Decline... Towers of Silence" and "Avesta" -2017-, as well as the EP "Deadly Lake" in 2014), the band increased their live activity, including an European tour with the blackened crust punks Khmer and support shows for diverse renowned artists like Godflesh, Baroness, Forgotten Tomb or Altar of Plagues, as well as celebrated sets at big festivals like Madrid is the Dark, Resurrection Fest, Doom Over Paris or Bracara Extreme Fest. On this new album the band pursues a more straightforward approach, with heavier shorter songs that still show the band's peculiar blend of sludge, different styles of doom and atmospheric metal, with massive wall breaking riffs, mesmerizing ambient passages and frontman and guitarist Juan Viguera's unique and emotive voice. The record’s lyrical concept revolves around the idea of becoming one with the cosmos after respecting Mother Nature’s creation, when we become dust from that dark star after trying to live a right and respectful life towards all other sentient beings. The impressive cover artwork has been created by Robert Hernández, one of the most prestigious tattoo artists in the world and the stellar production is courtesy of the band's longtime collaborator Carlos Santos (Wormed, Toundra) and Víctor García's (Adrift, Boneflower) crushing mastering.
