After the stunning full-lenght debut “Fulgures” (ATMF, 2007), the acclaimed, progressive and deep followup “Vega” (ATMF, 2008) and two compilations (“Black Metal Invitta Armata”, 2009, and “Önd - A Tribute to Enslaved”, 2012) italian act JANVS (or Janus, if you write it low case) is back with a new deal on Avantgarde Music. Being in the band’s mind for a long time, the re-recording of the 2004 demo “Nigredo” is a step in a new musical direction, yet deeply rooted in what made Janus such an interesting project. Fully re-recorded by the complete lineup (Matteo Barelli, Claudio Fogliato and Massimo “M:A: Fog” Altomare) and rearranged to match the evolution of the last ten years, “Nigredo” is a haunting and dark shaded trip back in the first stage of a growing awareness. The four original tracks from the 2004 demo are rebuilt from scratch paying great attention to the sounds and landscapes evocated by the rewritten lyrics. Custom made guitar and bass effects wrap their unique sound around the italian lyrics of “Imperium”, “Abisso”, “Rovina” and “Suicidio”. You will follow them surrounded by the original drawings and artwork by Francesco Gemelli (that already painted for JANVS on the previous “Vega” booklet). “Nigredo” features Ivar Bjørnson from Enslaved as guest guitarist on our “793” cover, and Palingenius (Gladio) as guest vocals on “Imperium”.

Following on the heels of their 2013 full-length “Once Hidden from Sight” and a 2016 split with Nethermost (USA), it’s hard not to notice the risen ambitions and wider scope presented on Vin de Mia Trix’s new double-album “Palimpsests”. The Kyiv-based band has always combined various doom metal genres and influences and aimed to create intelligent and touching, yet uncompromisingly heavy and dark music, but the songwriting depth, versatility, and atmosphere on “Palimpsests” is on another level compared to their past albums. Palimpsests is an album about archetypes, the stories and characters that exist deep inside our collective subconsciousness, stories so significant and influential that they appear in various peoples' and cultures' mythology. Concepts like rebirth through sacrifice, stealing knowledge from the gods, or the great cleansing flood can be found anywhere from Hinduism through Ancient Greek myths to Christianity, proving their importance in shaping societies and civilizations. These stories are told to this day, and “Palimpsests” album tries to retell them once again, adding to the eternal cycle. The name “Palimpsests” summarizes the spectrum of themes the band aims to convey and embodies the concept of multi-layered meanings and symbols expressed through musical, lyrical, and visual content. Musically, “Palimpsests” is rooted in Extreme Doom, venturing occasionally into the territories of Prog Rock and Post-Metal. Mixing and mastering were handled by Damon Good of the mighty Mournful Congregation, making sure the production quality matches the music's ambitiousness. The double album is presented as a 4-panel digipack with an exclusive 36-page booklet designed by the Kyiv-based Seri/graf Studio.

The striking debut full-length by this Mexican band. Hailing from the vast Death Metal hotbed of Mexico, Ravenous Death feature current members of such other bands as Remains, Demonic Manifestation and Death's Forsaken. The band's embryo was brought forth in 2016 during the recording of Remains' third album in Mexico City, when vocalist/guitar player Miguel Angel and drummer Esteban Salcedo toyed with the idea of creating a Death Metal band influenced by Vomitory, Torture Division and the likes. Later on, both musicians shared their vision with lead guitarist Enrique Fray, and the three of them agreed to push the idea forward and carry it out as a side-project due to the commitments they all had with their main bands. Soon after, Enrique and Miguel Angel began writing songs for the newborn abomination, and the three members decided to name the band after a Vomitory song titled "The Ravenous Dead". Fast forward to October 2016, and the recording of Ravenous Death's debut demo/EP, "Ominous Deathcult", is finalized (although not released as a Bandcamp download until March 2017), including 5 songs chock full of rotting maliciousness that show great poise in combining blasting brutality, crushing heaviness, somber ambience and fierce intensity, with the lyrical themes revolving about death, occultism, blasphemy and other classic topics of the olden Metal of Death. On May 13th, 2017, the band make their first live performance in the city of Guadalajara. For this occasion two new members were recruited -namely, bass player Alejandro Mendez and guitarist Diego Gomez- leaving Miguel Angel on vocal duties alone. After the excellent crowd response, both Alejandro and Diego join the band as official members. Emboldened by this patient momentum, at last arrives Ravenous Death's full-length debut, aptly titled "Chapters of an Evil Transition". Indeed displaying the band's transition into an evil Death Metal juggernaut, the album absolutely bleeds the molten-yet-mildewed essence of 90's Metal of Death. Fucking fashion and trends and especially fickle tastes, "Chapters of an Evil Transition" is a gutsfucking time-warp to the days when Death Metal was supposedly "dead", lost in favor of Black Metal, Power Metal or (worse) ill-fated sellout fantasies. In this landscape did many a raw and righteous mini-classic get birthed, and suitably do Ravenous Death continue the proud legacy of Vomitory and Mexican forebears Shub Niggurath, but also especially Sadistic Intent, Seance, old Grave, 90's Immolation, 90's Vader and Finland's Demigod. No more but definitely no less, this is Death Metal by and for Death Metal maniacs: no bullshit and no sellout! The style of the band was influenced by North American and European old school death/ grind metal of the 90’s enriched with the elements of melodic death/ thrash metal and, at times, even with the fragments close to doom metal. These insertions to the powerful and solid brutal death metal framework here and there turning into quite pacey death/ grind do not diminish brutality, speed and ultimatism of the music but add some grace and atmosphere keeping the band up-to-date balancing between brutality and melody.
