Antropophobia music combines several different styles: atmospheric black, depressive black, dark metal, and doom metal, while the author itself characterizes band genre as luciferian dark metal.The main idea behind this project is the essence of worries about unseasonableness, social misunderstanding, fall of ideals which turn to thoughts about unearthly beauty.The issue includes a CD-R with professional printing, a booklet, a flyer and a hand-numbered certificate with unique copy number (edition is limited to 100 copies). It is packed in a mini-LP-sleeve of solid cardboard with original Art of Silence series appearance.

Pure Nothing Worship

There could be a lot to say about the debut album of this Russian one-man band coming from a person signed Dmitry Konovalov, who calls his music "Luciferian Dark Metal". Normally, when I read thing such as this, "Luciferian Dark metal", and consider the fact that the combination of terms Russian depressive black metal could potentially spell disaster, I avoid the thing at a mile and get an urge to smash the CD and murder the person who was dumb enough to write such utter nonsense. But, overcoming such an urge, I'll try and review this album in as fair as I can. Most of the time musicians would put their better tracks first, but that is not the case with this album, which is opened by an strangely repulsive song named "Antropophobia (Thoughts of an Angel)". The main riff is hideous, which paired with synths produces a mix that should never be made. Such a track should never open an album. "Scream in Emptiness" shows heavy use of synth, mostly piano, as if to mask the ugly guitars with recycled riffs and programmed drums. There are some nice riffs and solos here and there, but not enough to make for a good album overally. In some songs, for example "Suicide of Genius" or "In the Night" the synths have a dance or techno sound to it, and that can hardly be a good thing. There are a few interludes with calm synths and nicely played pianos. I wish I could write more positive things about this album, but it's just not that good. Even reading the song titles such as "Lucifer's Scream", "Suicide of Genius" and "When the Dark Angel Cried" should be enough to deter a potentional listener, let alone the fact that most atmospheric and depressive black metal bands from Russia are the reason this genre is so rotten and laughable. Hopefully the genre "Luciferian Dark Metal" dies out with this album.

ро Дмитрия Коновалова и его проект Antropophobia ходят легенды. Например, говорят, что весь материал для пока единственного альбома “Scream In Emptiness” этот мрачный парень сочинил за один день, и в тот же день он нарисовал для банды логотип. Крутой логотип, надо сказать: эти звёздные деревья – один из немногих поводов для радости от минималистичного оформления пластинки, выпущенной конторой Solitude в серии Art Of Silence в виде болванки с четырёхстраничным буклетиком.
Но музыка здесь и правда приятная. Чудо-композитор насочинял море клавишного тумана, обволакивающего вас тоской и негой, и заправил испарения разной бодрости мелодичными риффами, пронзительно-карамельно печальными соло-партиями и приблэкованым скримом. Слушается весьма приятно. Красиво. Мерцают звёзды, клубится туман, ну и ты чешешь сквозь ночь на сияющем новой краской шоссейном тягаче…
При чём тут этот «Камаз»? Дело в том, что порой мелодии и ритмы «Крика в пустоте» начинают спорить с красотой и мощью саундтрека к компьютерной игре «Дальнобойщики». Который, вообще-то, не так уж и плох, просто иногда чувствуешь лёгкую досаду от того, что музыка вроде пытается выкинуть тебя в космос, но на деле лишь сажает за руль игрушечного торгового судна для бодрого бороздения небольшой ненастоящей вселенной…
Другая ассоциация – хэви-метал-рок от дяди Аббата с альбома “Between Two Worlds”, где тоже полно торжественных гимнов холоду с красивыми соляками. Правда, здесь музыка помедленнее, но по крайней мере в первой половине открывающей песни сходство очевидно.
Что, опять же, не плохо. Результат-то получился очень красивым и приятным. Этакий симулятор ночной прогулки в морозном зимнем лесу. Под ногами поскрипывает гитарка, улётные мелодии сверкают сквозь темноту клавишного тумана… Настоящий подарок сентиментальному слушателю.

Antropophobia is from Russia and formed in 2007. From what I understand this band is a mix between Doom, Black Metal, and a bit of Thrash here and there. Pretty good stuff though. Everything in this release is Atmospheric and Ambient all the way. Symphonic as well, but things never get boring, it is like being in a trance and falling into this doom and gloom hole with the background of evil playing on my stereo. Antropophobia is going to make their way through the Black Metal underground as long as the music keeps interesting and dynamic like this. Every track has its own identity with the style and feel of the music. The vocals are drone which adds to the depression of the music. "Scream in Emptiness" definitely adds to the genre of interesting metal! An emotional punch in the head added with the depressing thoughts of never seeing the light of day, this band plays some good metal. Fans of the atmospheric doom/Black Metal music will enjoy this release. "Lucifer's Scream" and "When the Dark Angel Cried" really show what Antropophobia can do with their time and effort! "Scream in Emptiness" is the release and it is worth the money to get.

BadMoodMan music hails one man musical project Antropophobia (I guess if you are afraid of people, as the choice in band name infers, it makes sense to be a solo project) as dark metal. I guess that makes sense.

Scream In Emptiness sees Dmitry Konovalov cull various elements of different genres and fuse them into one cohesive sound. Within you'll find the misanthropic lyrics and rasped vocals of black metal, the melancholy of doom, even occasional Gilmour-era Pink Floyd-style solos, combined with mid-paced distorted riffing, all drenched in an atmospheric keyboard cocoon.

The sound and feel is what you could expect with the above description - songs plod along, driven by some fuzzed out distorted guitars (I dig the tone), with keyboards providing mood enhancement. DK rasps lyrical negativity over what is only perhaps slightly depressive music. Think "my favorite sports team just lost a regular season game" dismay, as opposed to "my entire family died in a fiery car accident, crashing into my bride-to-be's limo on the way to our wedding, killing her and her family as well" full blown despair. Throw the remote at the TV sadness as opposed to throw yourself off a bridge woe.

This is likely the result of taking some elements of hostile, negative music and mashing it all into a clean sounding, synth-swathed package… During the distillation process, they effectively diluted the emotional impact of those elements. It sounds great, the songs are good, but the whole effect is muted.

Scream In Emptiness has been referred to as "Luciferian" dark metal, so to drive my impression home, I will paraphrase another diabolic antagonist, Doctor Evil.

The vibe "is semi-evil. It's quasi-evil. The margarine of evil. It's the Diet Coke of evil. Just one calorie, not evil enough."

But hey, I enjoy a Diet Coke from time to time, and I did enjoy this album.

Nicht viele Musiker können von sich behaupten, an nur einem einzigen Tag nahezu das komplette Material für ein Full-Lenght Album komponiert zu haben und abseits dessen noch Zeit gefunden zu haben ein Logo zu entwerfen und gestalten. Eine solch fragwürdige Anekdote gibt zumindest “Dmitry Konovalov” im Rahmen der Veröffentlichung des Debüts “SCREAM IN EMPTINESS” seines Solo-Projektes ANTROPOPHOBIA zum Besten. Der Wahrheitsgehalt dieser Aussage sei an dieser Stelle nur von sekundärer Bedeutung, gilt es doch die Qualität der neun enthaltenen Stücke zu beleuchten.

Der Protagonist selbst beschreibt seine musikalische Kreation als atmosphärischen und depressiven Schwarzstahl, mit Anleihen aus Dark und Doom Metal. Da diese Umschreibung allerdings etwas ausladend wirkt und es schließlich schon immer besonders imponierend war, Herr über sein eigenes Genre zu sein, darf ANTROPOPHOBIA künftig als LUCIFERIAN DARK METAL bezeichnet werden.

Verträumte Gitarrenmelodien und sanfte Synthesizerspuren

Etwas verwirrend wirken nach Verinnerlichung dieser Titulierung die ersten Takte von “SCREAM IN EMPTINESS”, die mit rockigen Gitarrenriffs unvermittelt Erinnerungen an ein Werk namens “BETWEEN TWO WORLDS” aus dem Jahr 2006 hervorrufen. Auch der getragene Mittelpart samt Akustikgitarren und hymnischen Leads reiht sich ohne Umschweife in dessen Konzept ein. Die verblüffende Ähnlichkeit, die allenfalls von einer sehr gewöhnungsbedürftigen Produktion, sowie dem regen Gebrauch eines Keyboards gestört wird, ist jedoch nur von kurzer Dauer. Bereits mit dem Stück “Lucifer Scream” werden die prophezeiten depressiven Klänge eingeläutet, die sich fortan in zumeist gedrosseltem Tempo präsentieren. Verträumte Gitarrenmelodien und sanfte Synthesizerspuren sind auf “SCREAM IN EMPTINESS” das Mittel zum Zweck. Um diesen ihre volle Entfaltung zu gewährenleisten, verzichtet Meister “Konovalov” sogar des Öfteren auf die lyrische Ausgestaltung seines Liedgutes. Weitere Experimente sind von ANTROPOPHOBIA auf ihrem Erstlingswerk jedoch nicht zu erwarten, sodass die Quintessenz des Albums repetierende Melodien zu mächtigen Keyboardarrangements darstellt.

Ohne mit einem besonders wohlklingenden Klanggewand aufzuwarten oder einen erhöhten Wert auf Anspruch zu legen, kann “SCREAM IN EMPTINESS” mit seinen melodischen Stücken und dem Hang zum Ambientfeeling zumindest kurzweilig überzeugen.

Dmitry Konovalov non è un nome nuovo per il nostro sito, nel recente passato il demo degli Antropophobia, "Lucifer's Scream", era già stato presentato in un pezzo curato da M1, adesso a poco più di un anno di distanza da quell'uscita sono lieto di poter scrivere dell'album di debutto intitolato "Scream In Emptiness".
Il disco si presenta come una creatura non eterogenea, non è legato solamente alla natura black sulla quale in maniera esclusiva giravano i cardini del primo lavoro, è decisamente più vario, con una produzione più centrata e che mostra una maturazione effettiva del songwriting sfornato da Dmitry.
Le note positive non risiedono infatti unicamente nella capacità di coniugare un'esecuzione di chitarra intrigante con una di synth atmosfericamente calzante come avviene sia nell'opener "Antropophobia (Thoughts Of An Angel)" che nella successiva "Lucifer's Scream" o nella doomeggiante e caratterizzata da tinte rock "Suicide Of Genius", tutte e tre presenze portanti e importanti estratte dal demo. Spicca l'affondare improvviso in ambito depressivo ma dolciastro dell'accoppiata formata da "When The Dark Angel Cried" e "Beauty Of Chaos", due pezzi, una sola anima sofferente.
La produzione in più punti è nitida, quasi cristallina, il comparto ambientale tende invece a levigarsi poggiandosi delicatamente sulle tracce, mostrandosi però quale unica componente omogenea dell'album.
Sembra che il percorso intrapreso dal musicista russo con "Scream In Emptiness" sia in tutto e per tutto l'evoluzione naturale, sgrezzata, rinvigorita da un grigiastro ardore che permette all'album di dare il meglio strumentalmente e trovare nella vocalità graffiante alternata a quella soffusa (in entrambi i casi dalla pronuncia inglese alquanto rivedibile) la risultante utile a esprimere la passione e la voglia scaturita dall'operato di Dmitry.
Antropophobia è un progetto equilibrato, che non tende a strafare, ben arrangiato che pur non apportando variazioni significative a un panorama ormai ultracollassato da uscite di stampo similari ha in sè le doti per far sì che giunga al vostro orecchio soddisfacendovi. Non vi resta dunque altra cosa che dare a "Scream In Emptiness" l'oppurtunità che si merita.

Cet album paraît dans la série Art Of Silence du label russe Badmoodman, c’est-à-dire qu’il s’agit d’une édition sur CDR (format professionnel), strictement tirée à 100 exemplaires (numérotation manuelle), dans un bel emballage cartonné.

ANTROPOPHOBIA est le projet obscur d’un seul homme qui a nettement choisi le côté sombre de l’humanité comme terrain de jeu. Pour tout dire, l’homme en question revendique l’étiquette de Luciferian Dark Metal. De fait, il propose un Dark Metal riche en riffs lancinants, en vocaux coassants et désincarnés (qui dénotent un rattachement possible à la sphère Black Metal), avec des claviers présents en nappes ou en riffs afin de créer un contraste lumineux (somme toute assez classique) avec la sévérité des guitares. Le tempo général est au mieux médium et plus souvent lent, ce qui nous rapproche de certains aspects du Doom Metal.

S’agissant d’une oeuvre réalisée en solo, "Scream In Emptiness" n’est pas parfaite dans sa réalisation et aucune des neuf compositions n’apporte en soi une quelconque innovation. L’oeuvre vaut bien plus par la sincérité de la noirceur qu’elle exprime et par son cachet rare, underground, mystérieux. Une curiosité.

Az igen derűs hangzású, Oroszországban működő Antropophobia (jelentése: emberiszony) zenei pályáját meglehetősen sűrű köd fedi, ám annyi kiszűrődik a hangok közül, hogy minden bizonnyal egy első szárnypróbálgatásról beszélhetünk esetében.



Az egyszemélyes formáció által űzött műfajt nagyjából az atmoszférikus black metal és a doom metal mezsgyéjén lehet behatárolni, mivel mindkét stílusból bőven építkezik. Az Antropophobia nem demókkal kezdte a ,,karrierjét”, hanem azonnal a mély vízbe vetette magát - Dmitry Konovalovval az élen - és felvette a Scream in Emptiness nagylemezt. Ez a tény pedig előrevetíti azt, hogy a kezdetlegesség fátyla terülhet a korongra és végighallgatva azt, megállapítható, hogy ez a sejtelem beigazolódni látszott. A kilenc dal súlyos hiányosságokban szenved, röviden összefoglalva az a gond, hogy nem eléggé karakteres dalokat adott ki a szerző a keze alól. Nyilván nem a világhír felé tendál a formáció, ám ez egy alapvető elvárás lehet egy kezdő zenésznél, hogy igyekezzen az egyediségre. A hallgató szűk háromnegyed órányi szintetizátorral kísért lassan hömpölygő riffelést kap az arcába, arról nem is beszélve, hogy az egyhangú ének a maszter során érthetetlen módon dominanciát kapott.

Csak egy félmondat jut eszembe erről zárásképpen: ,,kalandorok kíméljenek”.

Een Russisch black metal-soloproject is iets wat je zeker niet alle dagen tegenkomt. Deze man in kwestie brengt ons met zijn kersverse black metal/doom-project Antropophobia meteen een full-length onder Russisch label.

Een cocktail van symfonische black metal en doom zoals bij deze wordt voorgeschoteld is altijd een moeilijke combinatie. De kunst moet er zijn om met je muziek binnen dit genre mensen in een slepende vervoering te brengen, iets wat op deze plaat op sommige momenten best wel lukt met het symfonische, sfeervolle element. Het nummer It’s All Over is prachtig om te beluisteren en het slepende karakter van Beauty of Chaos is eveneens een aanrader. Via deze nummers weet Dmitry Konovalov een leuke sfeer te brengen waarbij hij zelfs met nummers als Scream in Emptiness lichtjes in de experimentele richting gaat. Het erg archaïsche karakter van deze plaat, met vooral de ruwe screams en amateuristische geluidseffectjes en afmix kraken daarentegen het geheel wat af. Kortom: de afwerking van dit debuut had op alle mogelijke manieren veel beter mogen zijn. De melodische black en het doomkantje op de schijf blijven eveneens beperkt tot een vrij monotone basis met hier en daar wat opflakkeringen.

Creativiteit en een verzorgd geluid zijn dus de grote afwezigen op dit werk. Enkele nummers tonen zeker aan dat dit project meer kan betekenen dan deze voorgekauwde, lege doom/black metal die de zoveelste in het rijtje is (zoals nu eigenlijk in het merendeel van de nummers wel het geval is). Hopelijk komt daar in de toekomst verandering in.

C'est au tour de BadMoodMan, filiale de Solitude Productions, de nous proposer de nouveaux albums, dont notamment la sortie du nouveau Antropophago nommé « Scream in Emptiness » et limité à 100 copies. Ce one man band russe est mené de pied ferme par Dmitry Konovalov, créant une musique personnelle et aussi diversifiée que sombre. Mélange de black atmosphérique, de dark metal et de doom metal, le sieur qualifie lui-même sa musique de « Luciferian Dark Metal » tant les compositions semblent toutes droit sorties de l'enfer.

Antropophobia a été fondé en 2007 avant d'être une entité plus que sérieuse en 2009, date cruciale durant laquelle Dmitry a sorti quelques chansons en plus de composer son propre logo. Mais 2011 est sans aucun doute l'année de la révélation pour ce russe désirant montrer sa façon de voir les choses. Évoquant dans son album le temps, l'incompréhension des gens, ou la chute de la perfection, le multi instrumentaliste fait passer ces thématiques à travers une musique d'une beauté nocturne, sombre et éthérée, reflétant la chute d'un ange et de ses pleurs de désespoir, à la manière du tout premier morceau « Antropophobia – Thoughts of an Angel » assez simple mais révélateur du travail effectué.

« Lucifer Scream » est son son de guitare distordu joue sur l'aspect dark et doom de sa musique, alternant passages lents et mid tempo, accompagnés d'une voix black quelque peu faiblarde. « Suicide of Genius », quant à lui, joue sur les parties claviers astrales, plongeant l'auditeur dans une sorte de nuit éternelle aux côtés de riffs doomisants plus attrayants. Plus sensible et relevé, ce titre montre tout le potentiel d'Antropophobia, comme sur un « When the Dark Angel Cried » instrumental et ô combien beau, le piano étant cristallin, le fond d'ambiance suave et en contraste lumineux/sombre, jusqu'à l'apparition de notes mélancoliques et touchantes.

Des instrumentales, il y en a beaucoup à l'instar de « Beauty of Chaos », la suite de l'ange qui pleure, dotée de guitares torturés et distordues. Les solos sont davantage mis en avant, remplaçant les mélodies aux claviers, apportant un petit quelque chose émotionnel. « It's All Over », dernière instrumentale et dernier titre de l'album, montre une facette plus expérimentale et orchestrale, les violons étant plus soutenus alors qu'un piano triste nous octroie de notes découpées et lancinantes le temps de deux minutes trente.

En réalité ce sont les instrumentales qui valent sans aucun doute plus le coup, les autres morceaux étant plus décousus, soumis à une grosse distorsion, doté d'un chant peu charismatique et en manque de puissance. Sans non plus être mauvais, ces titres embarquent l'auditeur mais pas autant que les instrumentales. « Scream of Emptiness », entre autre, peine à décoller et à nous montrer des parties plus transcendantes, malgré des mélodies dark fortes intéressantes.

L'album reste tout de même agréable à écouter malgré une impression de répétition, cette voix, et ce manque de progression dans les morceaux chantés. Toutefois, cela reste fort encourageant, ce one man band a tout à nous faire découvrir par la suite, le potentiel étant là il faut le dire. Un black/doom/dark mélodique à écouter au moins une fois, ça vaut tout de même le coup d'oreille.
