The debut mini-album by the American band Borboropsis which was formed by members of Flesh Warfare, Well Of Night and Moiscus, continues the traditions of diSEMBOWELMENT and Dusk with outstanding talent and perfection. “Decorticated Burial Of Delirium” contains three heaviest atmospheric anthems composed in the uncompromising death doom metal style. Three gravestones, three death cries, three tracks: this is more than enough to be impressed by the grandeur of Borboropsis.

Si prosegue l'opera di recupero di lavori usciti durante il 2021 con l'ennesimo debut EP: è ora la volta degli americani Borboropsis, quartetto proveniente da Daytona (Ohio) che va ad iscriversi al sempre più lungo elenco di gruppi che seguono il percorso tracciato dai vari Dismebowelment, Winter, Rippikoulu e che vede nei Mortiferum e negli Spectral Voice la massima espressione odierna; insomma, avrete capito che con "Decorticated Burial Of Delirium" ci troviamo davanti ad un EP di Death/Doom molto, molto intransigente: cupo, pesante come un macigno, con accelerazioni assassine e taglienti passaggi dal sapore Blackened, il tutto a fare da contorno ad una voce greve, gutturale ed estremamente cavernosa - vuoi anche per il riverbero dato alle vocals di Nash Walkup. Coordinate stilistiche facilmente individuabili, in cui i Nostri sembrano muoversi decisamente a loro agio; certo, per poter emergere in un genere che sta vivendo ai giorni nostri una nuova giovinezza (sort of...) la strada è lunga e per nulla facile, ma i Borboropsis dimostrano con i tre brani che compongono la tracklist di questo loro debutto di saperci fare e che meritano di essere tenuti d'occhio. Caotico, apocalittico, pregno di toni "malvagi" (soprattutto nell'impressionante seconda traccia "Transmute Miseries of the Solemn Halls"), "Decorticated Burial of Delirium" è un lavoro che gli amanti del genere non devono farsi scappare: i Borboropsis sembrano avere tutte le carte in regola per togliersi, nel prossimo futuro, diverse soddisfazioni.

The debut record from American death/doom merchants Borboropsis is carved from a similar vein as Dusk and dISMBOWELMENT. ‘Decorticated Burial of Delirium’ is a three track EP, and it is out now on Solitude Productions.

Opener ‘Echoed Winds of Corporeal Derangement’ is a groaning, rumbling heavyweight; powerful riffs meeting bleak melody and guttural roars in an orgy of slow brutality. That dissonant melody line that winds throughout is intoxicating, as is the upping of pacing into a thunderous, stomping beast in ‘Transmute Miseries of the Solemn Halls’. A mammoth chug is the bread and butter of this behemoth track, and that leads us into the final track, ‘Decortication | Burial’, which combines those two disciplines of monstrous riff weight and atonal melody into a devastating finale. There’s a shift into a more violent death metal thrust for a middle section where the pace quickens and there’s a definite Swedish old school feel to it, before the aching miserable crush returns into a cold, bleak ending.

‘Decorticated Burial of Delirium’ is an exciting new addition to the genre, combining a brutal heaviness with a genuine touch of the melancholy to create something very special. This is just the kind of stuff I’m really into at the moment, and Borboropsis have captured my attention. I look forward to much more to come.

BORBOROPSIS is a death/doom band from Ohio. "Decorticated Burial Of Delirium," is their debut release. This is a three track EP but it is twenty four minutes long so there is a substantial amount of doom here. I immediately noticed how sinister the guitar tone—–these strings are channeling hellfire. The overall atmosphere is dark, suffocating and sulfuric. As far as death/doom goes, I can't think of a better set of adjectives.

"Echoed Winds Of Corporeal Derangement," begins with twisted melodies that don't lighten the mood but instead reinforce this bleakness. Likewise, the clean instrumentation that is mixed into this craziness just further expands the shadow. I love that elements that other bands use to offset heaviness are used differently on this song (and album). The dismal melody of the guitar continues throughout the song, backed by thick ass riffs that coat the song so densely that I'm shocked the audio didn't physically manifest out my headphones.

The second track, "Transmute Miseries Of The Solemn Halls," leans heavily on the death metal portion of their sound by opening with a frontal assault of rapid riffs and even faster drums. The tone, however, remains as it was so the doom sound is still firmly locked in. In essence, the album keeps its dark and grave tone even when it attempts to rip your head off. The riffs around the 2:00 minute mark are seemingly unstoppable. A melodic bridge builds between this and another brutal session but I liked the sudden turn of events and variety. After the six minute mark, Spanish style guitar enters the arena of hellish doom. Not only is this a very unconventional and awesome turn of events but it somehow makes the song even more menacing. And the ending guitar? Genius.

The final track is "Decortication | Burial," and it begins with an immediate slab of distortion. The song alternates between funeral doom slowness and quick bursts of speed. Despite the change in tempo, the song doesn't sound disjointed. A large part of why is the drums that keep a somewhat frantic style even when the songs dials back the speed. I think this song is the best on the EP just because it is a damn good representation of the album's overall atmosphere and because its just a massive performance that caps off the album perfectly.

There are worse ways to spend 24 minutes and as far as EPs go, “Decorticated Burial Of Delirium” has become one of my favorites of this year.

Met ‘Decorticated Burial Of Delirium’ is het Amerikaanse doom / death metal gezelschap Borboropsis aan zijn allereerste werkstuk toe. Volgens de meegestuurde tekst krijg je drie tracks te verwerken op dit debuut, goed voor een kleine vijfentwintig loodzwaar en agressief geweld. Bij de ons aangeleverde kopie vinden we slechts twee tracks, goed voor een klein kwartiertje loodzwaar op je inbeukend geweld. Echt rouwig zijn we er niet om. Niet omdat Borboropsis een minderwaardig product zou hebben afgeleverd, wel omdat wij niet zoveel variatie in de loodzware dreigende mix ontdekken. De heren openen meteen rauw en loodzwaar met ‘Echoed Winds Of Corporeal Derangement’ en zetten zodoende de toon ook voor opvolger ‘Transmute Miseries Of the Solemn Halls’. De twee nummers beuken zwaar en log op je in en omhullen je in donkere dreiging, maar vraag ons niet om daadwerkelijk verschillen te gaan zoeken in beide tracks. Oké, de tweede is bijna dubbel zo lang qua tijdsduur dan de openingstrack, en ja er komen een paar extra accentjes langs, maar uiteindelijk blijft ons gevoel hetzelfde: loodzwaar, donker met rauwe brutale vocalen. Of, nee, toch niet, want ‘Transmute Miseries Of The Solemn Halls’ krijgt een afsluitende minuut of zo van akoestisch gitaar getokkel. Van een contrast gesproken met de rest van het werkstuk. Hoe ‘Decortication / Delirium’ klinkt, weten we dus niet, maar we vermoeden dus ook loodzwaar en brutaal. Met twee tracks is het misschien moeilijk om echt een oordeel te vellen, zodat we Borboropsis nu nog het voordeel van de twijfel toe kennen, maar we hopen toch op veel meer variatie tijdens een volgend werkstuk.

Borboropsis es una banda que acaba de irrumpir en la escena de metal estos tipos traen una mezcla de Death Metal con Doom Metal y hacen su presentación por medio de un EP el cual tiene su banderazo de salida el próximo viernes 20 de agosto este material lleva por nombre Decorticated Burial Of Delirium.



Este EP está compuesto por 3 canciones y nos da una duración de 24 minutos este material es independiente de momento. Borboropsis está conformado por Nash Walkup - Guitarra y voz, Max Otworth - Batería, Adam Witmer - Guitarra y Cole Shirley a cargo del Bajo.

Esta entrega tiene canciones muy extensas con esto me refiero a que dos de estas pistas están arriba de los 8 minutos pero estas pasan en un abrir y cerrar de ojos, este EP comienza con “Echoed Winds Of Corporeal Derangement” la cual se ve desarrollando de manera lenta una interpretación sensacional de lo que es el Doom pero aunque hay momentos en que puedo decir que suenan más a un black atmosférico. “Transmute Miseries Of The Solemn Halls” inicia con una fuerza desmedida todo lo contrario al tema anterior, los riffs son agresivos un pieza que nos muestras más detalles de death metal, las guturales hay momentos en los cuales no se entienden, el doble pedal llega de manera salvaje pero posteriormente se crea una atmósfera densa ya que los riffs ahora son más lentos y oscuros el cierre de esta pieza son unos acordes acústicos muy agradables.



La pieza final es “Decortication/Delirium” la cual es la más extensa de esta entrega con más de 10 minutos de duración un tema que se va desarrollando de manera lenta creando de nuevo un atmósfera que trata de envolverte en la pieza. Borboropsis se presenta de una buena forma haciendo una trabajo con una mezcla de géneros muy llamativa, un álbum recomendable de escuchar.

Describing themselves as Dayton Ohio psychward inducing purveyors of Doom infused Death Metal, Borboropsis are a quartet former by members of Flesh Warfare, Well Of Night and Moiscus who cite inspiration from the likes of diSEMBOWELMENT and Dusk. Their debut was recorded, mixed and mastered by Shaun O’Shaughnessy that is accompanied by artwork by Suguru Tanaka with Bridgette Clifton accredited with the bands classically barely readable but instantly recognisable logo.



The raw nature of the recording of this debut offering serves to add to the dirge laden atmospheric crush of the beast as it sounds primitive and cavenous, giving the impression that is was recorded in a sprawling cave structure in the vast, dark depths of hell itself. Curiously that doesn’t overly muddy Max Otworth’s drum sound which remains crisp and clear despite a little reverb on the bass drum during some of the jackhammer footwork. What it does do however is make Nash Walkup’s Death growling low vocals echo around your skull like the summoning of the Demon within, a calling to the void that it takes great strength to resist. Despite its dark rumblings, it is not a release without its fair share of melody and contained with the extended duration of “Transmute Miseries Of The Solemn Halls” are some brilliantly ecclectic acoustic lead parts before a traditional Metal acoustic closing that showcases some impressive picking parts and proves that this band are more than the monolithic beast they claim to be. As well as the aforementioned inspirations there are also some distinctly Black Metal influences in the mix and the slow death of “Decortication | Delirium” is a perpetual agony that takes everything low and slow before building up into a mid section of Blast Beats and a rampaging solo that present divine intervention to the skull crushing depravity. There is an sense of epic grandeur to the latter half of the track that is a surprise given its monstrous opening and the finale that sounds like a Harp is the most Avant-garde moment by far. A Trojan horse of a release, this isn’t for the faint hearted

Released earlier this year by the band and now exhumed by Solitude Productions, Decorticated Burial Of Delirium is a harrowing example of how to mould death, doom and funeral doom into a congealed morass of tormented anguish and unbearable agony. Sounding like the offspring of a hellish triumvirate of dISEMBOWELMENT, Dusk and Worship, there is a choking atmosphere of foul odour and poisonous foreboding, where only the condemned and the damned can enter the gate to the final track Decortication/Delirium and pass beyond, head bowed, shoulders slumped, all joy and hope abandoned.

This is the debut EP from US death/doom metal band Borboropsis.

This release offers up 24 minutes of atmospheric heaviness that holds a lot of promise for the future. The music combines cavernous old-school death metal with mood-focused slabs of doom, and it does this exceptionally well. Imagine a combination of Morbid Angel and Immolation, then slow it down and draw out the malevolent atmosphere, and you’ll have an idea of what Borboropsis have created here.

There are some very good riffs on these songs. These choice cuts seem to slither menacingly across the airwaves with dark intent. These are combined with more nuanced and intricate guitar parts that contribute massively to the feeling of atmospheric dread that swamp these songs like a foul miasma. Malignant melody occasionally rises out of this murk with otherworldly potency. The death-to-doom ratio is well-judged, and Borboropsis make use of a few different paces and ideas across the songs. All of the three tracks are well-written, and the band have a clear talent for this sort of music.

Decorticated Burial of Delirium is a very enjoyable and impressive first release from Borboropsis. If they’re this good already, I honestly can’t wait to find out what the band have in store for us in the future.

Ones to watch for sure.

Ein drückend sowie arg finsteres Stück Musik haben Borbororopsis erschaffen, die mit dem vorliegenden Ding dem Funeral Doom verfallen sind, der zwar sicherlich teils recht zäh serviert wird, anderseits aber auch agile Parts bereithält. Die tiefgestimmten Gitarren werden von einer druckvollen Produktion unterstützt und die Umsetzung jener Stilistik gemahnt dabei hin und wieder an die göttlichen Disembowelment. Neben Funeral Doom sind ebenso Elemente aus dem Death Metal vorzufinden, was "Decorticated Burial Of Delirium" zudem eine ordentliche Portion an Lebendigkeit verleiht. Gut so, denn auf permanente Zeitlupe hab ich gerade gar keinen Bock. Schwere Riffpassagen türmen sich da ihren Weg auf dem Erstling der Band, die sich übrigens aus Mitgliedern von Flesh Warfare, Well Of Night und Moiscus zusammen setzt. Keine Frischlinge sind somit am Start, wobei man dies Borboropsis aber auch anmerkt. "Decorticated Burial Of Delirium" setzt zudem auf überraschende Breaks und teils dissonante Melodieführung, weshalb zum Beispiel ein "Transmute Miseries Of The Solemn Halls" schon recht nahe an genannte Disembowelment kommt. Lediglich drei Vertonungen sind hier begraben wurden, die aber völlig ausreichen, um das Gemüt zu verdunkeln, weshalb es im Grunde genommen auch gar nicht so schlecht kommt, keine Überlänge präsentiert zu bekommen.

Mittlerweile gibt es einige Bands, die an dem Vermächtnis von Disembowelment knappern. Borboropsis sind ein guter Vertreter ihrer Art und haben fraglos eine Menge an Potenzial inne. Man wird sehen, wohin die Reise geht, der Truppe steht diesbezüglich noch jeder Weg offen. Für ein Debüt ist "Decorticated Burial Of Delirium" jedenfalls eine runde Sache.
