Through 4 tracks mixing funeral doom with ambient and darkwave, Until Death Overtakes Me explores the idea of life being incomplete unless it passes death's threshold. Antemortem (before death) is not a glorification of death, but focusses on the path to it. Life with its pains and terrors might long for the end, but could just as well explore the freedom that comes with accepting the inevitable. The contrast between heavy distorted guitars and ethereal ambient melodies mirrors life, but offers an open ending - is life a pained struggle, where one is shoved forwards, closer to death all the time, forcing one to blindly squeeze as much meaning out of every moment, or is it rather a calm stream that gently carries one to the completion of a journey that's best experienced with eyes wide open, regardless of what may come after? More likely, both aspects remain at play : primal instincts balanced by intelligent rationality. Antemortem is the first Until Death Overtakes Me album after a long hiatus, and forms a bridge between the periods before and after this break. The track 'Before' dates back to late 2003, 'Days Without Hope' is based on a track that's even older by several years, and best marks the point in time where Until Death Overtakes Me went from darkwave/doom to ambient funeral doom. On the other hand there are the tracks 'The Wait' and 'Inevitability', both from 2016. 'The Wait' is more a experimental, almost mechanical sounding epic, while 'Inevitability' is an instrumental marking the acceptance of the concept of 'Antemortem', as well as its conclusion.

Named after Siberia’s northernmost city, home of a famous heavy metal smelting complex, Norilsk is a doom-death band from Gatineau (Québec), Canada. After releasing an EP, Japetus, in July 2014, Norilsk now unveils their debut album - “The Idea of North” in a glorious digipack edition on Hypnotic Dirge Records. “The Idea of North” is a doom-death album crafted for the winter season: it has slow and crushing riffs, death growls, and atmospheric arrangements. An evocation of an ominous presence over a vast wasteland, “The Idea of North” is a massive offering that triggers the imagination. Its music draws comparison with doom-death bands such as My Dying Bride, Morgion and Ablaze in Hatred, but it also has a few atmospheric sludge/post metal elements reminiscent of Isis and Morne. Inspired by the multi-faceted Canadian experience of the North, and assembled into a cold yet dynamic sequence of eight individual songs, the album explores themes of darkness, isolation, identity, archaism and persistence—thus delivering a fresh perspective over the cliché Nordic imagery in metal in general. “The Idea of North” was recorded at Studio En-Phase in Montreal by Jean-Philippe Latour (Paroxysm, Fuck the Facts, Talamyus), and mixed at Pebble Studios in Ottawa by Mike Bond (Dissentient, Endemise, Loviatar, Signs of Chaos), while the artwork was designed by professional artist Sam Ford, who also designed album artworks for Black Cobra, Witch Mountain and Monarch, among others.

Coming off the heels of their latest full-length album “Le passage des glaciers”, this fall the Canadian Death-Doom act Norilsk returns with a collection of new material linked in concept with its previous full-length while also showcasing Norilsk’s more collaborative and multi-faceted nature. It retains the band's signature sound developed on its two full-length albums, and brings forward further openness to an array of doom-related influences. The new mini-album, entitled “Weepers of the Land” is made up of four new compositions as well as a Mylene Farmer cover song (Tomber 7 fois), previously released in Russia on a limited edition compilation CD, and completely remixed. The new compositions include collaborations with other Canadian musicians including Damian Smith (Altars of Grief), Joshua Cayer (Longhouse), Ben Forte (North East Bistro, TGRE), and long-time collaborator Mort Marion (Outrage AD, Blood Moon Knights). “Weepers of the Land” should be viewed as a companion album to “Le passage des glaciers” as the songs were written and recorded during the same time period. The album will be presented in a 4 panel digipack with artwork from William Blair Bruce (1859-1906) and released worldwide on October 12, 2018.

Mournument started activities in 2021 after Niklas (Deveneror, ÆRA, Forestfather, Flesh Configuration) and A.P. Here you will find an almost perfect harmony between music and poetry, and it"s worth a lot. "(Darkside.ru) Stylistically, "To Solitude..." belongs to pagan metal with doom metal influences in the vein of Katatonia and emotional rock recalling the middle period of Anathema: "Genre ... Let"s call it conditionally ethereal pagan doom, a term definitively reflecting the mood of the album." (metallibrary.ru) The re-release of 2017 also comes as a limited edition, at this time, as a normal CD packed in a six-panel digipack reproducing the original design, including for the first time all lyrics, supplemented by two exclusive bonus tracks. The first bonus track "In the Fog of Midnight" is a part of the never-before-released demo album "Dark Times" (2005), at which the mastermind of the project Tears Of Mankind, Philip Skobelin, began collaborating with the Moscow poet Sergei Terentyev. The second bonus track is an absolutely new composition "In Your Eyes" (2017) based on a poem for the "To Solitude..." album.

Following on the heels of their 2013 full-length “Once Hidden from Sight” and a 2016 split with Nethermost (USA), it’s hard not to notice the risen ambitions and wider scope presented on Vin de Mia Trix’s new double-album “Palimpsests”. The Kyiv-based band has always combined various doom metal genres and influences and aimed to create intelligent and touching, yet uncompromisingly heavy and dark music, but the songwriting depth, versatility, and atmosphere on “Palimpsests” is on another level compared to their past albums. Palimpsests is an album about archetypes, the stories and characters that exist deep inside our collective subconsciousness, stories so significant and influential that they appear in various peoples' and cultures' mythology. Concepts like rebirth through sacrifice, stealing knowledge from the gods, or the great cleansing flood can be found anywhere from Hinduism through Ancient Greek myths to Christianity, proving their importance in shaping societies and civilizations. These stories are told to this day, and “Palimpsests” album tries to retell them once again, adding to the eternal cycle. The name “Palimpsests” summarizes the spectrum of themes the band aims to convey and embodies the concept of multi-layered meanings and symbols expressed through musical, lyrical, and visual content. Musically, “Palimpsests” is rooted in Extreme Doom, venturing occasionally into the territories of Prog Rock and Post-Metal. Started in Finland in the Summer of 2019, Autumnfall is a creation of Jussi Hänninen (ex-Fall of the Leafe, The Bleak Picture), conceived as spiritual successor to Fall of the Leafe’s early works. Soon after writing the first song Hänninen asked T. Ruohonen to join as the vocalist. A four track demo was released in late 2019 and it was during this time that Ruohonen asked O. Pirkkanen to join for the drum duties. Autumnfall pays tribute to FOTL first albums when mixing melodic black metal with some death metal elements while adding modern atmospheres and melodies. The first full-length album "Ghosts of Light" was written and recorded between 2019 and 2020, then mixed, mastered and digitally released in 2021. It was suppose to come out in physical format in 2021 but the plans fell through due to various reasons.

For the first time the third person has broken through into the NORD"N"COMMANDER creativity in the album called "Akkortheon" (2005). This third person is Accordion. Just the name of this musical instrument is played up in a mystic spirit in the appellation of the material. Almost all arrangement is based on accordion riffs and solos which are dashed with declamation, a drum computer and sometimes a sampled choir. The participants of NORD"N"COMMANDER themselves call the style of the album "quasi funeral doom". Nevertheless guardians of "funeral purity" should not get disappointed. Lack of "guitarism" does not disturb but, on the contrary, peaks sombre, "enshrouding" colour. With what does this album enshroud us? With clouds, fogs and primarily with lava. "There are empyreumatic graves inside volcanos. I am gazing into them and picture to myself my nature without flaws. Creatures from Beyond live here. But I try to dissolve myself in lava. And lava is rolling away from me again. It seems that I"m desolating myself. Maybe this process is my mask, maybe the mask is me. There is empyreumatic graves inside volcanos. Waiting for a next Stream of lava... I"ll sink into it and I"ll live for ever". The above is an interlinear translation of the Russian-language text out of the album. This lava is not only a material substance but something more subtile, something combined of ancient memory and anticipation of this memory in aftertime. Just a flavour of lava can be revealed in accordion sound and vocal - melodics of language multiplied by melody of notes. Voices of Equinox... The glow of dying embers... Membranes of leathern wings... Generally speaking we are initiated into a plot. Taste it!

JOB FOR A COWBOY - американская death metal группа (Глендэйл, штат Аризона), существующая с 2003 года. Оно и неудивительно, ведь в обновленном составе задействован Nick Schendzielos из CEPHALIC CARNAGE, а продюссированием альбома занимался Jason Suecof (TRIVIUM, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, WHITECHAPEL). Запись альбома "Дух Войны" происходила в период с февраля по декабрь 2013 года на "Slow Burn Studio" (г.Орёл). Оформление альбома выполнено известной студией MAYHEM PROJECT. Сразу после записи альбома, в декабре 2013 года, группа начала концертную деятельность, выступив на разогреве GODS TOWER, где была очень тепло встречена публикой. В настоящий момент музыканты работают над материалом к следующему альбому, который будет продолжением и очередным этапом развития команды.

"We have before us a joint conceptual work, which unites these bands in terms of views of life and death. According to musicians of Abstract Spirit and ENNUI, “Escapism” is a hopeless escape; the escape from everything… from yourself, from reality and disillusionment, escape from grim realities. “Escapism” stands for a willingness to readily face the soothing death, to get rid of life torments, burdens of miseries and disappointment. Lyrics are written in three languages: Russian for Abstract Spirit; English and Georgian for ENNUI. Art work for the split was made on basis of a work by Moscow modern dark art artist Pavel Lyakhov, who is famous for his gift to visually reflect experience of relationships with outward things in a frightening manner, which can make you go dotty. From the view point of music, one should consider this record to be a comprehensive piece of music art. At the same time either of the two bands reflected their own vision of funeral doom from the own view point using individual scale. Connecting traits are the fundamentality and the thoroughness of the tracks themselves. What has this record in store for an experienced listener? A modern take on classic black metal marked by unconventional and enigmatic twists that are both genuine and timely.
